Thanks for the OT!

I played this way back on it's original release on PS2 but I barely remember anything other than the ending(s) and being scared shitless. Was super into what was coming out the Asian horror scene at the time thanks The Ring (and yes I went back and watched the originals). Gave the demo a quick look and yeah, still love those creepy flashbacks. Looking forward to seeing how it holds up now that I got 2 more decades of being a scaredy-cat under my belt!

I wish this game had recieved the same lvl of polish and care of RE games.

The demo didnt impressed me, lets see the full game.

Tecmo is releasing games left and right. The DLC mini campaign The Two Masters to Ninja Gaiden 4, NiOh 3 getting updates and new armor for reaching a million sales, and now Fatal Frame II. Not bad for a similar asking price as the PS2 version when that came out.

So frame rate determines if the game is good or not?

Bloodborne was 30 FPS and that is an action RPG and yet still didn't stop game from being great.
This is a remake.

Of a very old game.

30fps for a BB remake would also be a travesty.

Just tried the demo cause I really wanted this to be great but...30fps for a remake and WTF is that film grain? Fuck off.

Two Masters DLC is sad. One lame new weapon for each protagonist. 4 new bosses. 1 reconfigured enemy type. A bunch of reused level assets with a recolor of underworld assets. Mostly a bunch of lame enemy gauntlets without anything memorable and a throwaway story.

Nioh 3's celebration armor is just a yellow version of the red and blue preorder armor.

I know nothing about Fatal Frame II remake.

I'll need to wait for a sale on this one I bet. 🤣
It's classic survival horror. Explore a spooky location, see creepy stuff, read notes for lore and fight off ghostly enemies with a camera with different types of film (infinite weak film, limited stronger film). The game's combat takes an interesting approach in that while you can take shots whenever you want it's much better to let the ghosts get closer and even start to attack you for maximum damage (a fatal frame). This also doubles as a way to force you to "face your fear" to be effective.

Try the demo. If you like it the save will carry over to the full game. If not then you only lose a bit of time.

Yes, but the fact we got those titles out of Tecmo when video game budgets are so high nowadays is a good thing. I'm being very optimistic here. They do release Romance of the Three Kingdoms and miscellaneous games here and there. I'd say their output is not that bad. Was it good enough for me to buy all of them? Yes. I'm still playing Dynasty Warriors Origins. Shows that Koei-Tecmo has fun games. Those aren't earth shattering things, but they made me go back to the game or think about revisiting the game. Nioh 3 still has a Season Pass of content to come out and NG4 isn't done yet.

Fatal Frame II takes one of the best entries in the franchise and they've made it for modern day consoles. Without tearing it down for all its faults. The publisher has done a good job at getting money from me.

I have enjoyed Team Ninja's DLC for Nioh 2 but it is difficult to say whether the DLC for 3 will be memorable with its open world mediocrity polluting every facet.

NG4's DLC was extremely phoned in and the whole game was completely outsourced so I have no idea why you think that it will be further built on.

While the quality of each of those games may be subpar to your standards. They still have ground to show off more of the game's engine. I do agree about NG4's phoned in DLC. It was basically splitting a single hair and bringing the strand together at the end. Which means it was far too predictable. I'd say we probably should focus our attention on Fatal Frame. Some could argue the gameplay is tedious, moving around the environment feels sluggish, and the camera isn't good half the time. It still holds a lot of good characteristics like story, unique gameplay, and the eerie environments. The combat with the camera isn't something you see in a lot of games. That's basically how I've looked at Koei-Tecmo over the years. Their games are a little rough around the edges, but they're unique enough to leave a lasting impression.

Apparently they patched in an option to remove the film grain on the PS5 demo so if that was your primary issue maybe give it another whirl. Still 30fps though.

*only reposting what I read elsewhere, I can't check it myself.

So just a toggle, it needed a slider really.
All or nothing I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also the PS5 Pro Support...It runs basically 😂

the game's concept always intrigued me (and still does), but the style always ruined it for me... that type of japanese characters/storytelling just isnt scary to me at all--feels goofy or basic or something.

a hands-off wide-linear permadeath silent protagonist version might do it for me.

Fatal Frame is more spooky and creepy then scary. The real meat of these games is the messed up lore and the occult rituals these isolated villages and religious sects performed. And in many cases the atmosphere and environment has a lot of show, don't tell.

Having a tough time choosing a platform to play this on

PC - don't want to sit at my desk for Fatal Frame. FMVs don't play play on the piece of shit Steam Deck thanks to jank ass Linux.

Xbox - 30fps, dead platform

Switch 2 - 30fps, joycons give me hand cramps

Will probably settle for Switch 2 docked but I might have to bite the bullet and sit at my desk for superior PC version.

Reading around, it seems like they did *not* add the two new endings that were added for the Wii remake.

But they did retain the extra ending that was added to the Xbox version along with the ones already in the PS2 original.

Out of the list, the XB version sounds like the best one for your case papito.

Whatchu playing on?

Sometimes I feel like grabbing a PS5 since there's stability in their ecosystem, but then I imagine the ghastly looking PS5 sitting in my entertainment center and snap out of it.

Getting this on Xbox, hopefully the patch is already / lands on Xbox by then too.

The demo got updated today, didn't realize it before.

It has the Film Grain toggle now and without the grain, it looks so much nicer and cleaner.
