The Legend Of Heroes / Kiseki / Trails Series Megathread

No Trails game is a bloodbath, at least in what main party charachters respects. Most obscure and dark tones are to charachters backstory, and deaths to enemies and redeemed enemies and some vaguely known npcs.

Cold Steel opens with dead soldiers and laying in their own blood. there's some blood and charachers that end up dead or mutilated, and the Jormungand battle although brief still takes the lives of some thousand people. Now, if they hadn't undone some of the deaths of CS2 and 3 the whole arc would have been perfect.

Daybreak starts more mature, Mc is older, he Trash talks a lot, and there's one secondary that dies and a village wiped out, plus some enemies die, at the end Daybreak 1 and 2 it's pretty much the same as CS as far as consequences is respected , but the end of Horizon is something else.

DB1 opens up more mature, but in DB2 and on; Van is goody good guy just like Rean and Lloyd.

Can't speak for CS1. But I do feel like the body count in DB1 is higher and more 'as a matter of fact'
like death in earlier games felt really rare. or just something not really acknowledged/present.

Like in DB1, there's some quests where you find out some NPCs end up died as the conclusion. And they just casually outright mention how a lot of unnamed bracers and police were killed in the line of duty so casually, where i felt in previous games that never really happened.

1. Graphics and animation got a HUGE step up imo. Especially animations. Everything just looked better, more polished, higher budget.
Look forward to Horizon then!

Daybreak 1 looks almost simple by comparison, they really amped up the camera direction and touched up a lot of animations with additional details. I can't wait to see what they cook up for Horizon 2.

They should put some effort in the general graphics now, it's a bit jarring that they have such good animations for combat but the environments and other stuff are still behind.

would be neat for an installment where your playing from the Ouroboros' side, but I guess the mystery about them is kind of the placeholder for the entire franchise

Yup, that and Aidios finally being revealed as an Evil deity should be the biggest plot twists in the end IMO, even if some of us have already figured them out it would still make for an epic finale for the series.

And if it doesn't go that way I'm still really liking the Sci-Fi/Mecha/Space Opera theme they are going for the ending in any case, feels like a modern Xenogears/Xenosaga.

Hmm, I think that (CS4 ending spoiler) something happened to Aidios before the Great Collapse, that's why in Cold Steel 4 the Grandmaster says "I am but a shadow". If we assume she is Aidios in some form, then maybe the Sept-Terrions going rogue was caused by something happening to her, which ultimately led to the the Great Collapse. I don't think Ouroboros or Aidios will be the main villain, their plan is to observe the Sept-Terrions and how humans handle them, the reason for that is still unclear though.

And yes, the mecha part in Horizon was soooo good.

Emilia is too cool. We need a dedicated route in Horizon 2.

And the OST for that part was insanse. Jindo cooked so hard.

After a very refreshing detour with Pragmata, back to Horizon.
Up to second Rean chapter.
Amusing how different the Dominions Celis and Leon treat Rean versus Van. Who they just keep at a distance and a give and take.
But Rean is so honest about his aim, they just more open naturally with him and give him a lot more respect.

Visuals are the same. Gameplay is mostly the same with a few tweaks.
Im playing it now and it looks better. Everything looks a bit more cleaned up and the running animations/real time combat is improved. The craft animations are copy and paste tho. Im early on but im still waiting to see why so many people are critical about this game (Daybreak2). Apparently horizon is very story heavy so im cool with the characters just kinda going on a bit of a filler arc sidequest as long as the gameplay is better. Which so far it seems to be.

I could see a long time fan being annoyed when this was the newest game in the series if they really wanted to see the story escalate from 1 tho

Yes, I think your perspective will likely be different because you know Horizon is right there for you after Daybreak 2, but for me who played it at launch, it was disappointing because the story didn't do it for me and I had to wait another couple years for the next game.

A lot of the critique was on Act 3. Which is unwarranted for me, except for the fact that it's way too long, they use the same repeated scenario N times and it can get tiring. Still, Act 3 has plenty of great character interactions, which is Daybreak 2 strong point.

Horizon NPC town dialogue is so much better than Daybreak 2 where nothing really happens.
All the NPCs in Horizon move like every day and their little sidestories update every time and a lot interconnect. In Daybreak there was barely any movement and a good number never moved from where they were in Daybreak 1.

Yes indeed. That's why a lot of people view Daybreak 2 as Daybreak 1.5. Horizon felt like an actual brand new game that moves the story forward.

which Ys games are directly connected with the Legend of Heroes timeline, is it all connected?

Ys/LoH = no connection
Xanadu/LoH = loose connection based on fan service and not plot (recurring characters and things like Alisa being a magical girl)
Nayuta/LoH = not connected yet, but there are some things that show it will eventually

the whole basketball subplot in daybreak/horizon could be its whole own anime series
NPCs writing in the Calvard arc is the best it's ever been. There are so many interesting or funny subplots, it's one of the things I look forward the most in Horizon 2.

I know they said they remaking all the Sky games but did they say they are remaking the crossbell and cold steel games?

So it's looking likely we are getting a remake of Sky The 3rd and the Crossbell Duology. I'm also hoping that they remake Cold Steel Arc. But I do get that they are a small company, so it would have to take a lot of time and effort on their part

For Cold Steel games we'd have to wait eternity. I can understand the need of remaster with new graphics and all but I can play old Sky games even now.

Guess being a hardcore fan really blinds.

Yeah I already played through every game but I wouldn't mind if they remade all the games

As for Sky The 1st, I'm waiting on 2nd Chapter Remake to come out so I can play both of them back to back

CS4 has *finally* been beaten. True ending and all....only took 168 hours heh. Lol @ Cedric. Can't wait to see where that goes. Loved the ending credits formal pics. Juna is a baddie in that dress! Schera too! Since I want playing back then at release, I'm super curious to how everyone felt when it didn't end with any cliffhangers like previous games, it said at the end "thank you for playing until the end end of the cold steel story"....was Reverie announced even? Was CS4 always meant to be the end and people hoping to see a cliffhanger?

Safe to say as much as I love Estelle but Rean is Trails to me.

I neeeeeed some of this sweet artwork that was on the bone screen at different parts of the game with the entire cast. Great stuff.

CS4 was the peak of Trails serie for me. Loved all games in the serie but CS4 stands on a different level for me. With 219 hours total gameplay, it is my longest playtime in Trails serie.

No CS4 was never meant to be the true ending. Remember, it was only Erebonia act. Erebonia act, like the country, is huge and take lots of things from previous games but like I said it was never meant to be true ending. Calvard part was always waiting but Falcom wanted to do "Avengers: Assamble!" for themselves and for the fans and therefore Reverie. Reverie also is a bridge to Calvard act for lots of reasons.

So TLDR: CS4 was meant to be the epic ending for lots of story parts but not overall. Also I believe (and the news mèx mèx shared a few months back) Calvard 4th game won't be a true ending as well. I definitely believe we'll see Rean as a true protagonist in a true ending game. Why? Because Rean is the most loved MC in all Trails serie (that also doesn't mean people don't like other MCs) and Falcom love fan service business. It was also hinted in the last game (Horizon) as well. I won't go into details to give spoilers here.

So enjoy your CS4 ending and savor it while you can.

Kondo has already said in interviews Horizon 2 won't be the last game in the series. There will be at least be one more game after that if he's serious about ending Trails by 2031.

after the calvard arc there will be another arc

What we don't know is how many games are in that final arc. Kondo is on record saying he wants to announce the last Trails game in 2031 for Falcom's 50th anniversary. So if Horizon 2 comes out in 2027, realistically the final arc can't be more than 2-3 games.

He wants to announce the last Arc. Not the last game.

I've had a day or so to reflect on my CS journey that I just started a few months ago and it's extremely bittersweet. Hundreds, literally lol of hours with Class VII is finally over and since it's Trails I know we're bound to see a few of these characters in later games after Reverie. Seeing how this roster of characters has grown over 4 games has been a lot of fun. I know Calvard has its own roster of characters so I know not EVERYONE will reappear but I hope to see my lil evasion tank For and since she's a bracer I'm sure she's all over Zemuria if needed. I also hope Reverie isn't the last we see of the Liberl and Crossbell people.

I opened the case and got the disc to install on my PS5, decided to browse the cover and mini artbook of Reverie and LOL @ C they ain't slick
I recognize that slim build of Cedric
. And I can only assume that's Three and Nine by the bear. I do wonder if their organization has any connections with D G cult and/or Renne and Moon Door 15....

I'm now up to Trails Into Reverie, having entered the Reverie Corridor for the first time. And I'm super intrigued by what's going on. I wasn't sure what to expect from this game as it serves as the epilogue to both Crossbell and Erebonia arcs, but so far so good. I've also seen my playtime spike up now that I'm playing Normal difficulty and giving some thought to how to build the characters rather than Easy and playing just for the story.
Just as a comparison, none was over 45 hours in Steam's played time before CS3 (FC 33.5 hours, SC 30.4, Sky 3rd 29.7, Zero 33.4, Azure 34.1, CS1 44.2, CS2 34.2) yet for CS3 my total playtime was 68.9 and for CS4 it was 78.5. It was quite fun to find in CS3 and CS4 broken builds:
Rean, Fie, Crow, Emma for the win in CS4 lol

Basically my main team too, with subs usually being Alisa cuz bae and Juisis for his instant defense shield. Him and Emma were OP supports.

Emma can basically solo the game, she's completely busted.

Starting from Cold Steel 3 the Trails games got longer for sure. Pre-CS3 my playtime is 50-65 hours per game (except SC at 90), post-CS3 is always 100+ hours per game.

Plus her brave order is clutch.

But same, CS 1 and 2 were easily 50-60 hours, 3 is where I went just over 100, 4 was the longest by far.
