[Hot Take] Star Wars Canon Games & Comics Are Actually Good

Darkmakaimura

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Disney Star Wars movies and TV shows are mostly subpar at best. There's no denying that.

But the video games and seemingly the comics are actually pretty good.

The canon games like Jedi Fallen Order and Vader Immortal are very exceptional some of the better Star Wars games I've seen.

The canon comics have stuff like Darth Momin who is actually one of my favorite new Sith. Definitely one of the more vile antagonists in Star Wars history.

So why can't Disney give us the quality of the games and comics that they produce to the big and small screens?

This is the only piece of Star Wars media I've ever consumed:

Well this is in reference to the new, canon extended universe and not the old EU.
New or old canon, it is known that the video games have delivered a good time 9 times out of 10.

I bet there are even people out there with much more fond memories of their games than their movies and shows.

Thinking about it, I might actually be one of those people.

The new Star Wars Racer (by ex-Burnout devs) comes out October 6th.

Oh I have a real hot take here - I think KOTOR 1 and 2 have better stories than the original trilogy.

Galactic Racer does look really good.

I mean yeah lol, 30 hour RPGs compared to 3 movies.

I also think Star Wars Rogue Squadron 1/2 and the Battlefront games do a better job of fleshing out the war of the original trilogy better than the movies.

Since Star Wars movies tend to focus on a small set of characters, it makes it very easy for the video games to expand on everything happening in the background.

Also the games were actually bold enough to go beyond the Skywalker Saga. Disney had one show in the far past (Acolyte) that had middling reception and they instantly got cold feet and went running right back to the Skywalker Saga.

True dat.

I have a friend who loves the short story "I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream" and so I gifted him the point and click game on GOG.

My understanding is a really fleshes out and expands on the short story so it was a must for him.

older star wars games are better in my opinion, we got blast with lot of them back in the day.
not trying to be sounding like grumpy oldies, but even the comic is better in the past

Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor I support the ancient Jedi Lore, the witches, the catana, able to customize the light sabers, you saw back to back good Battlefront games 2015-2018 PS4 era.

I agree he comics are better quality, but they make the same mistake as Disney by focusing too much on legacy characters. I'm so sick of Darth Vader. It's like Disney just shoehorn that MF into everything.

But with the movies and TV shows, it's just bad decision after bad decision. Picking the wrong writers/directors, leaning too heavy on nostalgia etc. I liked the idea of the High Republic, but it's live action debut was a mess (except the lightsaber combat, that was the only highlight).

Good news is that the next Star Wars film Starfighter, might be a return to form. Great cast, great director (not sure about the writer) and also

Tom Cruise got behind the camera to film one scene. All we know is that it was a lightsaber duel in a swamp/bog. I actually think that Ryan Gosling is playing a version of Kyle Katarn, but that's just my personal view

The Acolyte was such a damn bore. I was hoping for some prequel aesthetics and instead what we got was dull and drab. Oh man, and that "power of many" chant made me want to throw a brick at the television.

All I know is, I'm 100% in for the next Cal Kestis Jedi game and Fate of the Old Republic. Meanwhile, I have zero interest in anything directly produced by Disney.

Dunno about all of them but jedi survivor, while having its issues too, is the best bit of star wars content weve had for a long time

Doctor Aphra I used to collect the single issues when they were coming out. I only read the first series and it's one of the few Disney Marvel Star Wars Comics I loved. This was around 2016 when that Vader Comic series was still ongoing. I collected both series single issues. Both of them on the Star Wars comic side were FANTASTIC

Books wise everything has been not great but not bad. I still want to read the Rogue One Prequel Novel and a couple of other books set in the Prequel Era

As for the videogames, the only ones I played and love were the Jedi Survivor games, I love both games

Aphra is suprisingly good. Jedi Fallen order and Survivor even with the rewrites fits pretty well and is interesting, would fit perfectly as a triligoy between the OT and PT movies if made. The inquistors is good and the Vader 2021 run? I can't recall but all excellent run.

However, even some of the comics try to make the ST make sense, like Vader seeing Xegol and the fleet being built.

I really liked Fallen Order, still haven't played Survivor, but I want to when I pick it up on the cheap.

The Forced Unleashed games were guilty pleasures too, the SNES Empire Strikes Back was fun in its day, especially the snow speeder levels.

KOTOR games are classics, but it's still even good if you know nothing of the Star Wars universe other than that lightsabers exist and are cool.

I'd say their game output is far more consistent than the mainline movie stuff. I don't really follow the extended universe stuff past games, but I watched misc episodes of Clone Wars years ago and enjoyed it.
