Jason Schreier: Xbox is already ending contracts and cutting vendors. Assembly, Xbox's main PR agency, is laying people off today.

Edit: Will Jez and Klobrille get axed too?

God please, cut of these paid zealots (including the ones at THIS forum)! As long as MS continues to feed those worms, the problem will continue to exist, because they are not even able to see what's wrong (do they really want to SEE what's wrong? That's another story...)

I've been saying like a broken record that the Xbox marketing team is awful. It's been awful for many many years. All the way back to before the XBone release.
Starting with that Xbone name.

Not sure what does that mean. One day they say project banana is coming. Next day they are cutting vendors and shit.

One day they want to make exclusives, next day they are thinking of how to backtrack on what they said.

Then announce a game and release a nice trailer for a game just to close the studio the week after.

Fucking POS company can't make up their mind for shit.

Wow they are shutting shit down over there. Xbox is becoming.
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Advertising doesn't work anymore. Why would any pub pay it? All those mega bombas had HUGE ad buys. It's a new day and there's a ton of dead weight in the industry.

What if I tell you... that they are not even getting paid?.... They actually believe in the vision.

The "free trips" and "photos with Xbox suits" are over for those moronic "pro-Xbox digital influencers."

I couldn't figure out why Asha would try to follow the "best buddy to the losers and the frustrated" path, just like Phil Spencer... I was thinking, "Holy shit, what is this? Is she just like Phil Spencer?"

Turns out she wasn't; she just didn't know how to act and followed the existing "model", which obviously yields zero results, and now the whole Xbox parasocial circus has come to an end.

This is better for everyone

Asha Sharma stops wasting her time paying attention to attention-starved morons on Twitter.

Xbox stops spending money on lunatic Twitter idiots who have zero impact on the market or the real world.

No one here will have to put up with a lunatic circus at the PS6 launch, with a bunch of lowlifes spewing delusional nonsense like "PS6 is trash, it's crap, it's got a last-minute overclock and catches fire and Sony is desperate."

Who got screwed here? The lying, deadbeat Xbox cult leaders :messenger_beaming:

their PR agency didn't do a good job in quite a while... so, not surprising.

get back whoever was responsible for all the classic Gears, Halo 3, ODST and Reach trailers back in the day.

I don't want people losing jobs, but Xbox PR has been atrocious for years

Eh, you're thinking of PR like a flak, like somebody who massages image in a crisis management mode.

That's generally not what external corporate PR does on a daily basis (though I asume Assembly was involved in those discussions, and Xbox for sure has had more than it's share of crises.) The general work has been in raising awareness of titles, assessing market trends, taking advantage of promotional opportunities, and making sure that available materials are of high quality.

I don't disagree that PR is a vestigial element which may not have the same power or place that it once did (back before social media there was an adage that every dollar spent in PR was worth like $1000 in advertising, but it still has its place. I also don't know that Assembly did any better or worse than expected with the shit storms that MS kept flying into?

Not sure what does that mean. One day they say project banana is coming. Next day they are cutting vendors and shit.

Then announce a game and release a nice trailer for a game just to close the studio the week after.

Again, that's kind of not PR doing that. (Well, pr is making the announcements; MS is then taking the counterproductive step the next day to shit all over the new press release.) But also, typical that the external assistant hates the punishment of their boss's mistakes...

I do think though that MS might be making the right moves in just wiping off the whole drawing board and starting as fresh as possible again. It's ugly right now, but there may not be a cleaner way to get back on course. I hate it for those involved, I liked some aspects of what they were trying to do previously, and I'm not sure it will work with the fix they are building, but at least they are trying something rather than just giving up on XBOX entirely.
