I think Marathon will be fine, it will just be one those tiny little live service games that ticks around in the background for years earning a few hundred thousand every quarter.

I mean I play Darktide and while Bungie's team is like 10x the size and cost 20x to maintain im sure it will all work out...

For what marathon is, it is mind blowing how big a team it seemed to need to make and how long it took to build. It's really hard to get your head around how much it cost for so little that your mind quickly goes to "this is fraud right? It has to be fraud"🤣

Not even bungie themselfs but sony executives aka suits thought audience gonna eat it like hungry pelicanes coz of bungie status alone no matter the quality of actual product.
Im pretty confident most of bungie higher ups knew for years its gonna be epic faill, thats why many of them left or even if stayed didnt give a damn and half-assed it anyways :D

People playing Marathon get

Meanwhile at obesefish

Which one looks more fun? And thats the problem, people just want more Destiny not whatever Marathon is.

It's one of the bizarre things about modern games. Look at the amount of content in Halo Reach, that was made by less than half the amount of people that made Marathon yet it has easily 10x the content.

No Tuesday maintenance day tomorrow.

But eyeballing it, tracking about -15% or so vs last Wednesday at the 9 am hour. That day's peak was 9.1k. Tracking to maybe 7.5 - 8k. It's early though, often times the US peak hours do better than morning trends.

Similalry tracking -15% to last Monday. Peak was 10.1k, so est today could be 8.6k.

As a range, it'll probably be around 8 to 8.8k

I know some have mentioned it but definitely think spot on the sales chart should be posted alongside the CCU data. Since it's based on revenue it's a good indicator of whether those playing the game are actively participating in the economy. That does include buying the game, but also includes all the MTX people are meant to be spending on.

It's misleading and most people think it's an actual "Sales chart" but it's all revenue based so is a good way to track GAAS success/failure. Even comparing a GAAS game this way to an SP game is interesting.

Sony is currently making more money selling Stray on Steam than they are from all Steam based Marathon revenue lol

This is obviously a scam and a fraud. I can just imagine Bungie's owners celebrating when those idiots at SIE bought the studio. They knew they were selling a pile of garbage at a premium because Sony needed a response to the Activision acquisition

I don't post in the OT of the game, but I do pop in from time for a laugh and it seems like even they are coming to the realization that this game is a goner.
S3 doesn't look like its generating any hype/excitement for them.

I'm excited to see S3....excited to see how bad the numbers are at launch and then excited to see how quickly it falls. My prediction is that it will not reach S2 launch peak numbers, but will make a more specific prediction closer to launch. My guess is it'll double, at most triple, whatever it's current CCU average is for the week before launch.

Still on pace for about 8.5k or so.

Last Monday, take the 8 pm completed hour and add 8% to get the peak.

Today 8 completed hour should be about 8k. Add 8% = 8.6k.

S3 isnt even until Sept 22. Their seasons dont even align to 3 full calendar months. So it doesnt start for another 2 months and 3 weeks.

I dont know what S2 roadmap stuff hasnt been released yet, but the fewer content drops, new modes and major gameplay tweaks the worse it'll get. They already did Night Marsh. That's probably the biggest part of S2 already released.

The most problems and we all know this that developers are chasing Fortnite, the amount of money generated from that game alone has changed gaming for good or bad. Everyone wants a competitive shooter/extraction game now and they will keep chasing it the money is too large to ignore. The problem is the time it takes to make these games is taking longer , and unlike EPIC no one keeps fresh content on the same scale or frequencies that keeps the game popular.

Even Fornite couldn't save itself.

Yup.

And before that it was COD everyone was chasing. You got just about every shooter copying its button layout, Crisis 3 copies the old school 3-5-7 killstreak (literally the same too..... UAV, pred missile, gunship in the air), BF games become more COD-ish etc....

Someone can argue if one product is racking up the money, nothing wrong with competing products joining them and hoping to carve a slice off them. But in creative stuff, you'd think there would be more creativity.

It's not just about being better "creatively". But in games, it's still got to be something gamers like. A studio can be creative making a shooter game involving snails and crickets but I doubt gamers will play it.

As you said games take a lot of money and time to make. So making it worse is trend chasers. By the time the game launches, the fad might be over. The first guy already on the train 5 years ago is loving it and already made bank. Comes down to whether there's more gravy left for everyone else at the next station.
