‘Elden Ring’ Has Now Outsold ‘Call Of Duty: Vanguard’ (USA)

Well, it happened. Just over two months after launch, Elden Ring has now beaten out Call of Duty: Vanguard, and is now the best-selling game over the last 12 month period tracked by NPD. For all intents and purposes, given that Vanguard was out in November 2021, that means two months of Elden Ring has outsold six months of Call of Duty: Vanguard in the US.

This is a dual headline here, as it emphasizes just how poorly Call of Duty: Vanguard has performed compared to a normal series hit, so much so that it’s the game that caused Activision to rethink the entire yearly release cycle of the series going forward.

But also, the larger story is just what a massive hit Elden Ring has been. The game recently reported 13.4 million copies shipped, which as I noted this week, is half the lifetime sales of the entire Dark Souls trilogy, and dwarfs other From games like Bloodborne and Sekiro.

Wow unexpected considering how Cod is a juggernaut sale, but I didn't know that the last one sold little compared to previous entries ( my last COD was probably MW 2 during ps360)

What a weird comparison. COD isn't in its prime anymore and Souls game are on fire and fairly a new genre. I swear I am more happy about the fact that Single Player games are back because MP in everything was starting to really ruin my mood.

Does this belittle how much CoD has sold or more what a beast ER is?
I mean CoD up untill now has been a yearly game for 15 years? How many games of ER have we seen?

It's not weird at all. Call of Duty Vanguard is second place and a CoD game is the best selling game basically every year.

For any game to outsell CoD for the best selling game of a 12-month time period is a big deal. For a Souls game to do it, is almost unthinkable.

It's not often we get this kind of alignment between sales and product quality. They deserve every bit of money and praise for what they've made. I've only got about 6-8 hours a week for gaming and have played it every weekend since it came out. Just now nearing the end.

You can do it, just gotta buckle down

I just don't find it fun to build up the knowledge of the attack patterns. If I could play the game exactly the same as it is, aggressiveness of AI the same and all that but you took half as much damage from hits I'd play it in a heartbeat.

You'll find it fun, you just have to get into the swing of things. Start with Demon's or Dark 1, they're easier.
