Activision stock

Delete thread if not allowed, I have no clue...

Have a question for people who actually know about stock market. I might have done something stupid, I am new to this.

With all the scandals and shakeups, the stock has been dropping really hard. So I decided to put in like 500 bucks, with the hope of holding out because they have to rebound with IP they have.

I'm already figuring I should have waited a bit more cause it's still dropping. My idea is if it drops a decent amount more, I'll try averaging out.

Question is, was this an idiotic move?

First rule of stock market - be prepared to lose all your money.

Second rule - do you think fundamentals hold? What is your investment period? As most things driven mainly by social media this will be forgotten in 3 months. To give you a reference Facebook gained 25% YonY despite all the shit going on (which is way worse than what Activision is accused of).

Scandals, lawsuits, and hit pieces are all part of the game. Right now, companies with nothing to show for is the hot thing. It's the "expectation" that the company will be the next big thing in whatever sector. When the realization of that finally hits people in the head, they'll pull out. Looks like a bit more turbulent times, but once people forget in a few weeks, it'll come right back up.

"It HAS to" is the biggest mistake you can make with shares. Blizzard are on life support right now. Retail WoW is in the worst state it's ever been, OW2 and D4 are "internally delayed" until lord knows when.

There really is no guarantee that it'll get back to what it was back in February before Blizzard collapsed into a shitstorm. If I were you I wouldn't invest a penny more, just hope you can still come away with a profit.

That being said, their mobile division will ensure that Activision as a whole don't sink. COD will still do fine even with interest at a critical low.

Nah it's a good investment. Gaming is only going to go up. It's bigger than ever and Activision has the biggest game every year.

Blizzard might be in trouble though. Still, I dont think you will lose much. It's just $500 anyway

If you won't miss the $500 then you are good. Because if it pays off you get a decent windfall. Who knows what the stock will be next year. If you hold the stock for a year, you pay less taxes.

Figured I'd hold out at least a year. Til the next CoD hits. And see how's its doing around then. Sledgehammer games are usually the weaker of the CoD games. I mean, I'm not too worried bout the money.

It depends on if the $500 was play money to you or critical to your survival. Putting money into a single stock is basically going to the casino.

Play money. Profit I made off ETH.

Like I said, I'm really new to this. Lol. Made some mistakes, but overall haven't lost any money yet. I usually sit on stocks with my webull and play with crypto on robinhood. Very amateur stuff.

I've been watching this very closely. If it drops much further I am gonna start snatching up quite a bit of it. Activision-Blizzard is too big of a part of the industry to outright fail and the stock will no doubt see huge jumps when Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 eventually release.

Unless those games are just disasters.

they will be, but that's not a worry - these companies are good at making money, not making good products

I wouldn't expect the next person in charge to be as good at pulling in money as Bobby Kotick, so while the company might be a much better place to work, as a stockholder I'd be concerned about the inevitable drop in profits.

isn't that the lowest it's been?

did I walk into a stealth brag thread?

Not intentionally haha. It was a few cents shorter when I was processing it.

Even if he is ousted, wouldn't he still be on the board? Making calls behind the scenes.

There has been a few here and there. Diablo 3 eventually became quite fun. And WoW had a big resurgence there for a hot minute. Too bad WoD was a fucking shit show.

But you are right for the most part.

I had ATVI and ERTS stock 10 years ago. Activision was around $12 and EA was $25. Did nothing for a year or two. Broke even on Activision and sold EA for a loss at around $20 I think.

Ok question now that they are being bought out. What happens if I don't se b4 it's official? Or should I sell at a high point.

Ok...

How much of this frying of Kotick and Activision related to the this acquisition?
The timeline is just too good to be true after Activison devaluating almost 30% and Nasdaq going up for almost 20.

is it just me seeing thing there?

I'm curious too. Also interested to see how the sjw report on this. They gonna just forget all th3 activision drama or give shit to microsoft now

If it was a cash deal you are going to get paid out cash based on their purchase price. If it was a stock deal you are going to get MS stock based on their purchase price.

Either way ATVI likely won't exist by this time next year unless the deal takes an enormous time to close.

It's not due to close until 2023.

Barring the extremely unlikely event that the deal collapses the stock will trade somewhere between the 80-90 dollar a share range until it's confirmed to be completed.
