AI impersonates Todd Howard's voice to talk about Elder Scrolls VI

Hopefully MS will find some ways to avoid delays like starfield has faced for elder scrolls 6. Makes no sense that a game have to take that long to develop.

AI voice is one of the most exciting things to happen in games to me. Once the tech is there it will allow some small shops like mine to VO all NPC's and more importantly allow a lot more variety of dynamic, responsive content. My dream is to create a game narrative that is fully responsive to the user's choices, resulting in totally different branching scenarios that continually grow in divergence. The only way for that to really work from the dev side is AI generated content, and VO content is high on the list of "not there yet, but its getting close!".

This doesn't even exist in text form yet though, why does voice make it possible?

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I don't know if this is funny or scary.

I made a thread about this a while back. I've been waiting for this to take off for quite some time.

Okay, if people do things like this with less parody things in mind ... information could become even LESS reliable on the web.
It's scary what's possible

I think we've already reached the point where nothing online can be considered 100% reliable. There's literally no digital media that can't be convincingly falsified.

My hope is that the eventual spread, understanding, and acceptance of this fact brings about the crash of digital news and social media manipulation.

When we all finally realize that it can't be trusted, we might just learn to ignore it.

Its just one piece of the bigger picture. But even without all the other AI generated stuff, we still can EASILY out-write our voice over budget by a factor of 1000. That leaves three choices in the current industry:

1. Cut down the amount of content in the game to fit your VO budget/time
2. Have some unvoiced NPCs/create a disjointed experience.
3. Have only like 2 VO artist end up voicing 85% of the NPC/characters in the game

Most dev's choose option 1, or a mix of the two. AI voice overs (that reach a point where they sound 90% good) will allow for massively more content generation when it comes to dialogue in the game.

Oh yeah, I mean that's all fair. I totally believe voice acting costs influence the amount of writing in games, so being able to create endless amounts of it will definitely be a positive when it comes to dialog.

“You can go there and f*ck it” 🤣🤣🤣

The werewolf part was also pretty close to rule34 reality. Amazing!

Isn't there a scene in Terminator 2 were the robot mimics a human voice to kill someone? Do we officially live in the future?

This tech will certainly help those celebrity porn deepfakes sound way more authentic. Who wants to see some busty Austrailian Twitch streamer being plowed by a football team if she's just gonna sound like some uneducated Valley Girl every time a dick falls out of her mouth and she speaks long enough to pull you out of the moment?

Was this written then voiced/read by the AI or both written and also spoken by the AI? Was it the same AI or did one write it and another speak it? Which one(s) was it? It's so natural sounding, so like Todd, pauses, intonation, scoffs even. Man we have come a long way.

You can already use it. Written by human, voiced by AI.
Theres also VALL-E which can mimick any voice by listening to it for 3 seconds, but its not publicly released yet

Exactly. You could make, say, a live action video of the President shooting a kid by placing his face on the 'actor's' face, and then you can speak with the president's voice to incriminate him even further.

Trolling has the potential of becoming really, really dangerous.

It‘s incredible how real this stuff sounds. On Twitter today I saw a bunch of similar clips; one of Trump decribing in graphic detail how he and Bill Clinton raped a Colombian girl on Epstein‘s island (yikes), and another one of Emma Watson reading a paragraph from Mein Kampf lol. I have a feeling they‘ll have to shut this down, or heavily restrict it in some way. Or maybe they‘ll make it impossible for the AI to voice certain words and phrases, similar to how other AI programs got eventually neutered to prevent them from saying anything too offensive.

But hopefully this means artificially generated voice acting in games is possible now. It would be a great way to allow full voice acting even in low budget or indy games. This might also reduce game sizes for games that have lots of voice acting, since the lines can be generated on the fly and don‘t have to be stored permanently in the data (at least I think so).

It really isn't going to be long before somebody makes something that allows your voice to mimic anybody else's in the world in real time, which is hella scary tbh

Companies are going to have to have all sorts of security checks on their phone systems moving forward

Yeah you’re talking about MS sorting the situation. Its hard with all publishers/studios etc. But Elder Scrolls will probably be a huge game So even harder.

But with MS getting rid of some Bethesda staff from what was going around last week. If Starfield doent hit expectations dont expect MS to make easier for Bethesda to get it out any sooner and cleaner.
