Just pointing out real life. Weird indeed. I feel like the point I mentioned is what decides if he's running the show wellWell this is a gaming forum, not a shareholders forum, so who cares what shareholders think.
Nearly every time there some negitive thing being done from the gamers perspective somone is always like "but as a business they having record profits!, Shareholders are happy!"
So weird.
Which is funny because that new trilogy sold over 30million between them.hell square sold lara croft for pennies
But they don't do online mp shooter, which is clearly what they want were aiming for. Someone that knows that specific space. This acquisition doesn't stop another from happening from the the ones you listed. They probably saw more value on a studio/game that constantly brings recurring revenue, and can help with their upcoming 10 upcoming mp games by 2026They probably could of got IO Interactive, playdead and remedy for that money.
bungie is meh as fuck, cant even get to the game with a bunch of seasons already, might as well release a new ip. but nah they are making loads of mo.... oh! nevermind
only because of the poor yen. they actually made more money than they did in the first covid year which was a record, but because the yen value went down, 325 billion yen became just $2.3 billion vs $3.2 billion (320 billion yen) the year before.Didn’t PS’s profit drop a lot in the last FY?
Absolutely true.
But how long PRIOR to Activision going to MS did fans scream for a renewal, or an agreement to be made for PS and Crash.
Crickets from Ryan and Sony.
It wasn’t just fans and gamers, plenty of internal players at PlayStation made it clear they wanted Crash to come back. Crickets. Absolute crickets.
My impression is that on the long term he will do more harm than good to Sony.
Yeah sorry perhaps I was a bit sharp.Just pointing out real life. Weird indeed. I feel like the point I mentioned is what decides if he's running the show well
Their 1st party hasn't stopped pumping out quality games, I like the extra tier (great value), and dualsense is awesome. And I'm happy with the pc expansion. Good stuff for players too
I will say, they stopped being leaders, right now they feel reactive and playing catch up. Catching up on gaas, on pc, on streaming, on a gamepass subscription etc
Mattrick was the beneficiary of the foundation set by Peter Moore. Mattrick's baby was the xbox one and we all know how disastrous that was. He's transformed a formerly fun brand into one known for nickel and diming.
Don't forget, Xbox had its best years under Mattrick. We're still some years away from feeling the true impact this clown will have on the games.
I would agree with you, if that would show with gamers responding negatively with their wallets. And so far, from my understanding, Ps5s are still flying off shelves, and games like last of us part 1 at $70 are still being incredibly successful. Heck, my casual gamer friends tell me $10 upgrade fee is fine, no big deal. EtcYeah sorry perhaps I was a bit sharp.
But my point is if pleasing shareholders was the goal, it might not always co inside with gamers interests.
They needed somone like steve job who would be in an xbox leadership team and go nuts and tell em how crap everything is and if anyone challenged him he would do this.Mattrick was the beneficiary of the foundation set by Peter Moore. Alyx is the only AAA VR game there is, the horizon PSVR game is under a B team Firesprite and I very much doubht it has any where near the budget of forbidden west.what? do you even know how many psvr2 games are already announced? and we haven't even had a proper reveal for the thing.
VR is great. go play Alyx tahn come back. hell play the walking dead while you are at it
Yes, and I think the money would be better spent on devs like ai suggested, Playstation strength has never been MP games it be Epic single player and unique indiesBut they don't do online mp shooter, which is clearly what they want were aiming for. The main reason the PS5 is losing to a 4 TF is they could actually buy it.Sales wise, he was handed a gold mine and he's allowed himself to get beaten in the US by Microsoft for last three quarters running. Imagine losing to a 4 tflops console. Worldwide sales have been much better, but his predecessors wouldve never let PS5 lose in THE biggest market. I also dont know how the chip shortage is affecting PS5, the largest console manufacturer but not AMD's AIB partners who flooded the gaming market with the 10 tflops 6600xt and 13 tflops 6700xt. Why couldnt jimbo secure those contracts? Wasnt his goal to sell 20 million in the first year? He shouldve secured those 20 million chips before the pandemic back in 2019.
PS consoles have sold an average of over 100 million consoles every gen. He was in the position to win every contract. He didnt. Before the pandemic. This is 100% on him. It's literally his only job as CEO. To put products on shelves. The main reason the PS5 is losing to a 4 TF is they could actually buy it.
I know 2 people who were PS4 players who got tired of looking for the PS4 and went with the S
While they are happy with the S they 100% would have stayed team blue if they could have found one and I imagine this played out a lot here in the US
Well games on pc and buying new studios was a right move.
But not having showcase, their silence with their community is not a good move.
Ms is doing everything right and we hope next year they finally has a nice flow of great games every year.
Sony is still delivering good games but their poor communication doesn't make any sensr.
Since Jim Ryan took over in 2019 we've seen initiatives from SIE such as:
- Massive studio expansion of all PlayStation Studios, with some of their larger ones going multi-project
- More acquisitions than ever in SIE's history (Insomniac, Valkyrie, Housemarque, Bluepoint, Bungie, Haven, Firesprite, Savage Game Studio and Nixxes.
- Expansion into PC gaming (several PC titles released so far with several more announced and known via the Nvidia leak)
- Expansion into mobile gaming (not yet announced anything)
- Expansion into esports with the co-acquisition of Evo
- The creation of PlayStation Productions (10+ film and TV projects)
- The push for live service games (10+ by 2025)
- Premium subscription services by merging PS+ and PS Now together and improving the overall content library and offerings.
That's in about 3.5 years. SIE has transformed massively under his watch and they're not done yet. It'll be interesting to see what SIE looks like by the end of this gen.
The man knows how to run and grow an organization, and has a lot of talented folks working with him.
Well they have produced more PS5s then series consoles according to most sales sources.PS consoles have sold an average of over 100 million consoles every gen. He was in the position to win every contract. He didnt. Before the pandemic. This is 100% on him. It's literally his only job as CEO. To put products on shelves.
I do miss sonys big E3 style conferences. I dont want gaming marketing to become sterile and only just direct style productions.Sony is anything but silent. Except for April, we've been getting constant communication and engagement from them practically every week this entire year.
As for the showcase, if it's anything like the past 2 years then their showcase could happen any week now. They had a rock solid third party State of Play in June and purposefully kept their first party out of it. Given the pandemic delays (both for games and announcements) over the past year or two, they should have a massive amount of content to fill out a showcase.

Well he knows how to invest Im sure not all of them will be good investments. It seems Sony are wanting to expand there gaming business. This may not be good for sony console purists though.
I honestly dont know how anyone could mess up playstation.
There forumula is not rocket science,
- Make good hardware by putting good people on the job (mark cerny)
- Continue making great games
- Dont do anything dumb
Is it ever going to be?Mediocre just because Bloodborne is not yet on PC.
I do miss sonys big E3 style conferences. I dont want gaming marketing to become sterile and only just direct style productions.
SIE says they've secured the necessary components to pump out 18 million PS5's this FY. They've got ~15 million more to go for the remaining last 3 quarters. PS5's have started to become a lot more readily available these past couple of months and it seems evident that will continue. Rumor has it that they'll be utilizing 6nm manufacturing for the PS5's starting in the second half of this year.
Then if SIE wants to hit their target goal of surpassing the PS4 sales curve next FY they're going to have to ship over 23 million PS5's. If I'm not mistaken I think that would be a new record for SIE, but someone can correct me.
A temporary lull due to worldwide component shortages that affected anyone and everyone isn't something to dump on his head.
