Anti backseating and spoiler rules are the worst on blind streams

I just hate it with passion.
You watch some streamer You like play a game for first time and it can be an old ass game everyone played.
And the whole chat is "no backseating, no spoilers" and even if You hint at something, any smallest thing, You get banned or called out. It is a minefield of what "mods" will deem as tips.

I think this is fucking bullshit and incredibly infuriating:
-It's torture for those who know the game in and out not to even drop smallest tips online.
-It should be streamer responsibility to avoid spoilers if he want to avoid them. But viewers are getting punished for having conversations.
-It completely negates the point of real, natural conversation with chat-streamer

It's the streamer who WANTS to play the game on stream, online and with active chat on which he WANTS to look at and read. If half of comments are getting deleted then what's the fucking point, just drop vod on yt.
I got banned just for saying that it's a stupid rule which I don't agree with fully lol. Mods were super oversensitive, overprotective snowflakes who did get any arguments.
I understand not wanting to see spoilers but it's fucking crazy to ban people for saying "check the controls" or "you missed an item"... fucking cmon.
I am so pissed off. You get into water, You get wet and mods acting like pure angels who will protect their streamer child from getting wet.

This is nuts, internet was a mistake, I hate chats and most forums really... and I never even drop spoilers or break the rules actually! I get banned everywhere I go but I always feel like the only reasonable person... same with giantbomb. Fuckers banned me after 10 years for questioning some obvious sjw bullshit. Now twitch for hinting in Dark Souls chat that there is a lock on in this fucking game because the streamer was a fucking idiot. And we all played dark souls in 2011 with wikidot and ENB on youtube anyway :p ... and there is no jury. just mods judge and ban if they want. Even fucking rapists get to explain themselves but not those who break internet rules.

tl;dr I find it hard to accept rules or be accepted in most places. Therefore I am miserable and asshole. I mean.... if You can't speak your mind even on the internet, then where?! just "GG, pog" and die

It certainly sounds annoying, but as to your point above, it sounds like that's what they are doing. Most streamers probably can't afford to have a staff screening their chat and only sending them the good ones.

I'm not into streaming though. How does that work for the big streamers? Do the biggest ones hire mods or is it strictly voluntary. If voluntary, why? Cannot imagine why people would.

They just hire mods and probably ask some fans to mod. Then they feel all the power and control the chat. At some point, just not reading the chat or having someone else just read you the important comments, is a better idea

From my limited experience (modded a few), there can be a kick-back in terms of gifts or free subs but most do it because they enjoy the streamer. A lot of mods are either very active users who dropped donations, active in Discord, get on with the community or simply knew the streamer before etc.

For a massive streamer you might get paid but with chat moving so quickly for those channels I'd say it must be a nightmare.

Someone who codes a decent bot to regulate I'd say gets a fee alright if they maintain it but that would be an admin role, could be several bots they use and you ain't gonna get rich off that.

Most mods are volunteers like most places, access to the mod chat/discussions etc.

"The stings I get when I stick my hand in a beehive are the most annoying thing."

It can't be that annoying or you wouldn't be doing it to yourself, repeatedly. Opt out, man, just like you would for any other form of entertainment that isn't working for you.

I know You are right... I just wish I followed this feeling more.
Almost years ago I've quit giantomb and registered here and honestly it was fantastic.
At some point, You have to know when to stop fighting and quit since I am never winning with masses of sheep...

Worst ones is when someone plays a 20+ year old game an says no spoilers. I understand if they are very young, but you looking 30+ and asking about no spoilers about a game that’s all over the net? I swear Twitch is terrible nowadays.

Blind stream. Blind.

I get fucking annoyed when a streamer makes a big song and dance about it being a blind run, then lets chat hold his/her hand. Shut the fuck up and stop spoiling shit: people are watching to see the streamer fail, get better and eventually conquer the game. Mods need to fucking lay down the smack? Then so be it.

It does seem like forums/chats/social media have gotten overly quick to ban people especially if you're a person that's been online since the 90's (or earlier) and can compare it to how things used to be. Going on irc and forums back then was very much a wild west kind of thing that we don't really see much anymore.

I blame it on smartphones. I guess I'm getting old, but it really does make me appreciate that I was able to be online 25 years ago and see the evolution of all this stuff.

Having said that, I tried out the whole streaming twitch/thing. I think it just isn't for me. If I'm sitting around watching someone play a game for an hour I just feel like I had completely wasted my time. Competitive stuff (like evo) is definitely more captivating than random dude playing fortnite or CoD. Most streamers are neither entertaining or insightful enough to keep my interest for more than 10 minutes.

I wouldn’t go into someone else’s house, see everyone enjoying a film, demand the remote so I can fast forward because I’ve seen it, then get mad about it when I don't get my way.

There is so much wrong with the OP and several of the responses. Streaming is a platform where you choose to enter a place with rules set by someone else. If the streamer sets those rules and the stream is successful, then enough people are happy with the rules and it’s just you. If the stream isn’t successful, it still doesn’t matter what you think about it because it’s not your stream. Start your own stream, set your own rules.

If you “get banned everywhere you go”, it’s time to start considering if it’s really everyone else or if it’s you.

No offense, but people who backseat are the very definition of the word obnoxious. Just keep your mouth shut, no one is asking for your assistance. Is it really that hard? Close the damn chat if it it's really that difficult to keep your unheeded advice to yourself.
Exactly. If the streamer wanted assistance while playing a game they would just use a guide. They don't need someone in chat constantly telling them where to go, that they missed an item, or they didn't do the boss right. It's obnoxious as hell. Imagine playing a game and having someone over your shoulder constantly telling you how to play the game. Like, we get it, you played the game before, nobody is impressed. People want to see someone actually experience the game as intended.

I don't back seat but 50% of messages are "no backseating" and it really harms the conversation. You can't talk about the game or it's mechanics or anything. Plenty of people banned, nobody has fun.
And it should be other way around. It's not me who choose to play 20yo game with chat.
Even on streams where steamer is not looking at the chat, it is ban mayhem.
Idk is just annoying, overly sensitive and too many rules. Where is the good internet gone

Oh you don't get it at all. Yeah... Like that is a good comparison. If you want to compare it to a movie watching it would be like fucking nuts dad(mods) who constantly goes "ahhh quiet, no popcorn, ahhh" and throws the kids out of the room for smallest annoyances that only he can hear.
Nobody is fucking spoiling the game. At most, at most people will say "pst maybe you missed an item?" And them 50 messages of DO NOT BACKSEAT, timeouts and all that.

Streamer plays a game online with chat so they can have conversation about it and they can play together. To interact with viewers. That's the point of online stream with chat. To interact and not only watch.
If you want to play alone? Then just fucking play alone or grow a pair. I've not seen anyone ruin a game in chat for a long time so it's a fake issue anyway.
None of us played stuff like dark souls blind. We've all had wikidot open alongside or watched enb playthrough when game released. Yet the game was still incredible. So a slightest hint like viewers talking among each other that "lol streamer does not know about lock on" is the whole fucking point of blind playthrough.
If you don't let people ridicule and comment on your fucking bad plays and missteps, then what is the point?
What am I suppose to talk about the weather?

I already addressed all of this. You're trying to dictate what people do on their own stream. The point of their stream is whatever they want it to be, not what you've decided it should be. You are a guest in their stream, either play by the rules or leave.

Of course people played DS blind. To pretend no one could possibly play it any other way says more about you than anyone else.

You can talk about whatever you like, but with like-minded people. Find them, don't try and bend reality to suit you.

I am not dictating player what to do. I just comment if anything. And I am not a guest and it's not free stream. I am either a subscriber or there are ads.
btw - how could anyone find out themselves how to drop to 4 kings is beyond me :p

I don't understand the pleasure in seeing another person playing when you can do it. I understand people watch porn if you can't fuck, but a videogame?

When I've finished the game, it's cool sometimes to see someone else either experience it (in some sort of way to relive my first playthrough) or to see a very skilled person playing. Or just entertainment

I have to say I disagree with op. I like watching new Dark Souls players. I've watched streams where the player has asked for hints, full blown spoilers and no help at all. The players who didn't want any help were probably the most entertaining. I've also watched streams where some obnoxious asshat has come in, spoiled everything and then thrown a temper tantrum when they've been asked to stop. Those people are the worst. They're like the asshole at the bar who wants everyone to know what a big shot they are.

There's a balance to be had.

OP mentioned Dark Souls, the joy of that game is in the exploration (to a large extent at least), and when watching a stream I also find enjoyment in the streamer getting caught off guard by the various surprises. People warning someone of the drake bridge is just as annoying as someone walking past a shortcut for the 100th time. The most rewarding thing is watching someone figure the game out on their own, and everyone has their own pain threshold for that.
