Mobile games are on track to surpass $120 billion in spending in 2021, growing 20% over $100 billion in 2020, according to an analysis of first-half results by mobile data and analytics provider App Annie.

i dont have to worry about the health of consoles industry in the long run, as they`ll follow soon after with more FTP & GaaS, especially with ones that have crossplay with mobile like Genshin Impact & Fortnite, while singleplayer ones will be 70$

Also what does Apples privacy update have to do with mobile gaming spending exactly?
Its hinders the progress of comparing the 2020 mobile gaming record to 2021 mobile gaming record.

They are looking for how much was spend, downloads, charts, and all those other data, that can help them find the correct data to compare both figure. Apple privacy update blocks certain steps, which makes it harder to study it.

I really don't see the connection though. The article says this:

How does not being able to do targeted advertising affect mobile game revenue exactly? They're not talking about their ability to get the data, they're talking about people not opting in to ad tracking reducing revenue, which makes no sense.

But like I asked, how does targeted advertising vs non targeted affect game revenue?

What percentage of mobile gamers only downloaded a game because of a targeted ad? Without that statistic you can't say that the privacy updates affected anything.

For advertisers, this means that the granularity you’re used to is going away. This change will be especially felt by the mobile gaming industry, which uses hyper granular targeting to drive downloads and conversions. Without access to the gameplay data that has traditionally been collected, like how long a game is played and how much money is spent in-app, it will be more difficult for developers to serve targeted ads for their games on other platforms. Consequently, it will be harder for non-gaming advertisers to serve ads related to gamer’s interests.

Game developers also won’t be able to attribute specific actions taken in-app to individual users. Not only are you unlikely to know whether an ad is reaching someone for the first time, or the fiftieth, you also won’t know what they do after seeing an ad. Is it immediately converting into an app download? Did it coerce users to visit a website? These nuanced metrics will be effectively lost as users opt-out of tracking on their favorite games.

Perhaps most importantly for developers, iOS14’s data restrictions will make it harder to monetize ads on larger ad platforms like Facebook, which has traditionally been a boon for smaller gaming studios. This just means that developers will need to relinquish their focus on individual users and refocus on aggregate data based on larger cohorts of gamers, the direction many platforms are already heading to retain tracking capabilities in a privacy-friendly way.

That doesn't really make sense though. Is there actual data to show that without targeted ads people will spend less money on fortnite on mobile? That just sounds like a lot of hypotheticals.

This is happening now. Apple released this update this year. The guys who are writing these articles, have sources with people on that field.
