As we are finally nearing release of the latest installment in the Battlefield franchise, I wanted to get a sense of where people stand with the game. Comparing the release of original trailer to where we are now, I feel the hype has dropped considerably due to a number of reasons. Be it gameplay changes; such as the removal of classes, to the very rough pre-alpha and beta tests, it seems that overall not too many people are very optimistic about what state the game will be in come launch day. So are you still looking forward to the game?

Hell yeah. Day one standard edition for me. Battlefield is among my favorite online shooters and there are no other games like it.

The addition of Portal and Hazard Zone is going to offer more variety as well. Portal is going to be great for custom matches.

Microsoft are good about giving refunds so going all in on ultimate... if it seems like it's beyond repair then maybe i'll get a refund. We'll see... i wanna have faith it'll end up good.

Yes but only after reviews are released and because there is sweet fuck all else for me to play so I'm desperate.

I might take the plunge for Vanguard instead IF the campaign is good enough
I still can't believe Battlefield 2042 is launching without a campaign. Insane. and having to pay a "premium" $70 on top of it? LOL, fuck you EA.

hells no. Didn't like the beta. Didn't like BF V. Didn't like BF 1.
If i want to play Battlefield, i have to go back to BF 4, 1943...or hope i can find more than 4 ppl in a game of Bad Company 2 on Xbox series x.

Also being on Xbox...i get those 10 hour game trials for any new EA game included with GamePass. So i'll be able to try it out at launch regardless.

I like the new modern setting. modern guns/gadgets/vehicles. I really disliked the map in the beta. And the general pace of gameplay. And how squads felt useless now. Maybe in a year they can polish this thing up and turn it around.

I'm not selecting your disgusting fam option, but nah I don't plan on getting it. I thought I would and even preordered it, but I canceled that after the previews and beta test.

Hell no. Why anyone would buy Battlefield at release is beyond me. It won’t be fixed and complete until at least a year after release. I’ll pick it up 12-18 months after launch for a massive discount or grab the GOTY version with all DLC. To all early adopters…have fun being Guinea pig beta testers for full price, I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Getting it at release.

Looking forward to the modern setting and I actually had a lot of fun with the beta even if I didn't like everything about it. I enjoyed the bigger maps and how you had access to transport vehicles to get around. Preferred the old classes to these specialists, but I'll manage I suppose. I hope Portal will be great.

A lot of people seems to be writing it off alrealdy, but I'm hoping it will be a good one even if not immediately. Reviews are gonna be interesting.

Was getting it day one but the hype has fizzled out for me a bit. Going to stick with Forza and Halo and will pick up Battlefield when it inevitably drops to sub £30 in 2 months time.

Friends are excited to play it and I liked the beta. Will try the 10hr trial and then decide if I wanna get it but more than likely getting it.

Played some BFV earlier with friends and had a blast. it's FAR from perfect game, but if you play with friends you can have some fun so I feel 2042 will be teh same.

Yes. I have some reservations about the direction of the game but it's Battlefield. The addition of Portal means even if the new style modes and gameplay sucks the community can create more traditional servers anyway.

I'm sure I'll sink plenty of hours into it over the next few years.

Maybe, with many big "if"

If it's heavily discounted
If Dice fixes optimization
If Dice fixes the huge amount of bugs in the beta
If AE and Dice don't flood it with micro-transactions
If they fix the operator system
If the maps are better than on the beta
If the SJW crap is not pushed down our throats
If they improve graphics, especially the soldiers
If I don't have nothing better to play at the time

At least wait one single day.

They reduced BF V price by 50% on launch day.

lol no they didn't. I don't even get where this myth comes from.

We've seen many situations btw where a publisher will decrease the price during the holiday. Of course that can happen if the game underpeforms like BFV, but games like Red Dead 2 which clearly was a hit was also 50% off after launch shortly (neither on launch day where 50% off though)

We've see Watchdogs 3 go on sale after launch and was like "da flopz" and we also seen AC Valhalla go on sale after...yet it didn't flop.

So......we've seen games go on sale regardless of how they actually do, I think you'll see BF2042 of course go on sale after launch, but that is what most AAA games do during this time of year aka Black Friday sales, Holiday sales etc.

Either way.....its a day 1 for me.

edit. here is the link regarding that whole 50% off thing, it wasn't day 1 and it was only for those who owned BF4, BF1 etc

Not unless they bring back classes
Classes exist in Portal..... I expect them to make Specialist optional a few months after launch.
get rid of that god awful attachment system
That system is optional and I think a great idea for when you want to change something in the field on the fly.

The normal system exist in the menu if you wish to do it the classic way before deploying.

For the most part, I feel gamers tend to exaggerate a lot of this a bit too much lol.

When BF4 launched many asked for the following, larger maps, higher player count, bots and not locking maps behind DLC as it would split the community.

BF series over time changse those things.

BF 2042 was not only delayed to skip the launch of new systems to avoid the BF4 situation, largest maps in BF history, higher player count, return of bots, free maps as that will not be locked behind a paywall....
Portal is the cherry on top as the ability to play older maps AND older class set ups AND older rule sets is beyond anything we've asked for in the past.

I don't disagree with you on the class thing for the main MP, I even see how someone would not want to do ALL their attachments out in the field as shit I won't do that for 99% of the things I add on, but I also don't see those things as soooooooo massive its a no buy or deal breaker etc. We've had worse situations like season passes locking maps, rushed BF titles with little time to develop, no server options etc. I think maybe some are exaggerating this as most of what was asked for in the past, was delivered with BF 2042 in terms of options.

You are btw correct to wait if you feel just as I feel most of what you listed with the class thing will be patched, updated etc or most will just play Portal who don't want that as to my understanding you can have Specialist in Portal, so they likely have it where you can probably just limit those features in Portals mode on them to be like the other BFs anyway lol Who knows.

I still can't believe Battlefield 2042 is launching without a campaign. Insane.

I still can't believe anyone gives a shit about a campaign in a BF game. lol

I got half way thru Bad Company and just couldn't keep playing that crap, keep playing MP like I did in the other BFs and just continued that way. BFBC2, BF3, BF4, BF1, BFV.....I barely touched the SP, to the point of not even starting most of them, BF1 is the closest I got to even completing one lol Most who play BF are just not playing that trash mode and I'd rather see it gone and the money focused on the main mode 99% are using with MP.

So I'll play $70 no problem for a quality single player game, I'll pay that for a quality MP game..... no way am I buying a Single Player game, that has a forced MP for that price and vice versa. Its nice if its just added on and they are trying, but shit they've been trying for several generations now and it has always sucked...

Let BF return to form as MP only.

Competitive FPS' needs to be 120fps (minimum) going forward on consoles. 60fps has been standard for the past two generations - it's time to move on.

That will probably never happen for Battlefield this generation - cause that Frostbite engine sucks.

And there are F2P titles which offer more content, plays better and looks way better.

Battlefield is not a competitive FPS and never has been.
