Ashley's Ballistics Removed from Resident Evil 4 Remake

The deep irony of all of this is that the original is more empowering to women.

What exactly was wrong with a woman standing up for herself in the face of being objectified?

So now we just have to pretend objectification doesn't happen at all anymore in 2023 compared to in 2005?

Nah it's still very much here.

Didn't something like that happened on the VR version? I think it was expected, they are clearly not what they used to be.

VR Version was censored.

This is a remake and clearly going for a different tone and style. Alterations can be made to remakes, but a port of an already existing game (even if in VR form) should not be censored or altered because of political/ideological reasons. Fuck facebook with a rusty iron razer for doing so. I refuse to touch that pathetic version.

I swear there was another game where it looked amazing until GameInformer got their exclusive footage and that looked significantly worse. Does anyone else remember this?

Maybe they get their footage way earlier than it’s released?

Also the new line is worse and sterile but I honestly just don’t have the energy to care.

Maybe they just thought it was too corny?

As others have said, I don't mind them changing some lines for the remake since they should feel free to adjust dialogue based on tone/characterization/etc. I like the line in the original but the remake shouldn't be expected to keep every bit of dialogue identical.

That said, I thought censoring existing lines (in an M-rated game no less) for the VR version of RE4 was beyond stupid. It's fine to see Leon's face get melted or to kick a villager's head off but PG-rated innuendo is a bridge too far...!

She's still got them. Just gotta get rid of that god awful jacket

EDIT: Oh we're talking about the line. Yeah, that's a travesty. They'll probably also remove her hitting on Leon, Adas big dick joke to Krauser, and Leon hitting on hunnigan. I'm hoping "you pervert!" after looking up her skirt sticks around

Yep they did exactly the same thing.

Still bought it though as IMO it's the best way to play the game by a country mile.

Is it? I played the Steam version with the unofficial HD Project mods on top of it, and think it's the definitive way. Works great any way you play it (mouse+keyboard, controller, or even on Steam Deck).

I don't have VR and I haven't played the first-person mainline RE games yet (7, 8), so that may affect my perception.

I guess it won't be in... as well as the "your right hand comes off?" line. Real shame... but I guess it would not fit to the tone of the Remake.

RE1 Remake found a way to change the "Jill sandwich" line from OG RE1 and make it fit with the less-B-movie tone.

I think RE4 Remake could have done the same with a few of the iconic lines, but that remains to be seen for the ones later in the game.

It’s all fake outrage anyway, if the right person say something objectifying to a woman or do the male gaze etc they have no issues with it, then it’s a compliment and they actually like it. It’s not like women wear makeup and high heels and get their hair nice and wear stretch jeans or other form fitting clothes etc just for themselves. It’s a very deliberate showcase. If it was real outrage everybody would just wear loose fitting clothes that hide everything and and stop crying about it. It’s no different than a guy wearing clothes that show off big biceps or pecs or a bulge or whatever else there is to show off. Everything is deliberate.

Voice delivery is so much better in the remake wow
How so?

The original had a distinct style of handling the characters and their interactions. Those lines and their delivery, were not just thrown in there randomly.
Everything is made with complete self awareness, from Leon's cheesy one-liners that spawn from a very stylish and elegant self confidence, to Sadler's and Salazar's preachy, operatic melodrama, spwaned from their complete incompetence in the face of Leon's infinite reservoir of abilities.
Nothing overstays its welcome in RE4, and it always lets you wanting just a bit more of that dynamic.

Every single line in this game is memorable, and this is also a part of why it's widely considered one of the best games ever made.

Same difference, to me. Maybe it is driven by obnoxious woke bulldozing behind the scenes, but I would probably do the same and pull back the amount of creeping on the teenager. It's a sensible thing to at least consider. "Modern audiences" is generally code for a whole bunch of bullshit. In this case though, I feel like the audience on average really is older and has more women in it than it did back then. Broken clock right twice a day thing.

A bit of a shame. But it’s way more annoying that they removed it from vr port of the original.
This is a remake and they completely change their remakes so it can be fine.

I mean she still clearly has a great rack and they even jiggle if you watch. So yeah, they removed the line. But she's still packing. Just not on full display. From the scenes we have so far.

Let's not forget these guys just gave us Lady D and had no qualms showing off her magnificent mammaries. Excella Gionne from RE5 was also packing some top notch dirty pillows. Look at Street Fighter 5 and all those outfits and bodies. They only ended up "censoring" the most shameless camera angles. Even Street Fighter 6 has Chun-Li and some new chick in skin tight clothing leaving little to the imagination.

Capcom is still loaded with glorious perverts. If one corny line leaving was the trade-off for new porn material featuring an Amazon fetish I never knew I had, I'll take it.
