Critic Reviews

Bazimag - Sina Golabzade - Persian - 7.5 / 10

Babylon’s Fall doesn’t put its best foot forward but if you stay with it through the first couple of main environments, then it becomes one of the best action/RPGs that you can both play alone as a hefty challenge or you can play with up to three other players as one of the most chaotic epic fantasy video games of all times. The game’s biggest shortcoming is its visuals which uses a not so eye-catching style.

ComingSoon.net - Tyler Treese - 6 / 10

This foray into this vein of loot-based, cooperative multiplayer is far from PlatinumGames' best, although those that continue on with the campaign will get to experience some engaging boss encounters and more interesting level design that are kept from those who bail early on. Ultimately, Babylon's Fall is an enjoyable enough diversion if you have a friend willing to go with you on the journey, but that time can clearly be used better in other games that aren't bereft of players.

Destructoid - Chris Carter - 5 / 10

An Exercise in apathy, neither solid nor liquid. Not exactly bad, but not very good either. Just a bit 'meh,' really.

God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 3 / 10

That Babylon's Fall comes from Platinum Games is perhaps the biggest surprise here. A banal, uninspired hack 'n' slasher with no imagination or personality.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Ed Thorn - Unscored

Babylon's Fall is a confusing jumble of an online action-RPG that's mired in unrewarding activities and loot.

Screen Rant - Jamie Russo - Unscored

Overall, Babylon's Fall starts out as a seemingly grindy game, but there are some elements that unlock in later sections that could help to break up the repetitiveness. Being able to craft or enhance weapons is likely to alleviate some of the need for grinding for gear that occurs in the first few Cloisters of the tower. There are also quests and orders to unlock outside of the main story and daily, weekly, or seasonal missions. Babylon's Fall has a lot of content to explore that will hopefully keep the game from being just a grindy action RPG - which we'll know better as we can continue to play and update this review with our final thoughts.

The Beta Network - Anthony Culinas - 5 / 10

Babylon’s Fall bears the shell of a Platinum Games release, however, it doesn’t go anywhere beyond that. The combat is dull and colourless, the story and graphical presentation are weak, and the micro-transactions it tries to shove down your throat feel like blatant predatory practices. There are some enjoyable moments of co-op gameplay, although they are few and far between.

Twinfinite - Cameron Waldrop - 2 / 5

The true problem of Babylon’s Fall is that it has no sense of identity. There’s nothing that sets it apart from games like it, and it only shows itself as a poor comparison to other, free, games. Babylon’s Fall feels like it was made to check a box, because it is just so empty and slapped together. The cookie-cutter levels only serve to wear you down as you just want to make it through main missions that are just about your only way to play the game. At the end of the day, Babylon’s Fall is a live-service game, assuming it survives this rocky launch, there’s enough potential to maybe transform it into something much better in the future.

VGC - Jordan Middler - 1 / 5

There is no one that we would recommend Babylon’s Fall to. It’s visually dated, consistently dull and features the most average PlatinumGames combat we can remember. On paper, the concept of a game like this bathed in the studio’s signature style is an appealing one, but sadly there’s nothing about the Platinum shine that’s evident in Babylon’s Fall.

The combat is fun but man so much in this game is so wtf I’m shocked Platinum created this, maybe it was their interns.

Whoever made the decision at Sony to moneyhat this game is probably pretty nervous right about now haha.

Platinum gonna platinum.
It went like this:

Third party maker A: Hey Sony, let's do a deal. We have a prototype demo to show
Sony : Thank you for your inquiry. If we agree, we'll get back to you

Third party maker B: Hey Sony, let's do a deal. We have a prototype demo to show
Sony : Thank you for your inquiry. If we agree, we'll get back to you

Platinum: Hey, Sony, let's do a deal. We got nothing to show but our shiny logo and one of the designers has some napkin art to show
Sony: Yup, yup! Let's sign on the dotted line

Totally. When the time comes, it'll be on GP. If I was Microsoft, I'd offer them $100. That'll come out to $1 per user downloading it and MS could make it back on some mtx.

If you want a real laugh, their $45 cdn Raiden shooter Sol Cresta showed on Steam, it had like 5 people playing it with peak usage at 44 gamers playing. There's probably more people on Steam playing something like Xevious.

I’d ask Platinum to pay them $100 for every download to cover their hosting costs haha

Platinum games should join Microsoft.
It’s pretty obvious they’re trying to get MS to buy them. Wonder if they were trying to get it to happen before this stinker came out and their reputation took another hit. The timing of Kamiya saying he’s open to a buyout and publicly trying to get MS to collaborate with them on scalebound again makes more sense now.

Im sure they would love to seeing as a couple weeks back they were begging Phil to let them make Scalebound again the problem is whether MS want them or not
Bad Babylon sales. Bad Sol Cresta sales. Platinum saying they want to get back into Scalebound and also publicly saying they are open to being acquired shows how desperate they are. Company is probably broke and looking for a white knight to save their ass.

The reality of Bayonetta 3 ever being released seems dimmer and dimmer and dimmer.

I dont follow Bayonetta 3, but google says a vague 2022 release date for Switch. Looks like the company's existence will rely on how well this game sells unless someone buys them out.

But hey, who knows. Maybe the company has shit loads of money in corporate coffers to last.

The ads are explicitly saying it's a console exclusive until September 2nd. Maybe they'll fix it and remove the SQEX account crap by the time it hits Xbox in 6 months.

Damn dude. Imagine releasing an $70 ARPG around the same time as Horizon: Forbidden West, Elden Ring, Destiny 2 expansion, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Final Fantasy: Stranger of Paradise, and Forspoken.

Even if the game were good they would’ve had a hell of a time trying to stand out from the crowd.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Lmao at these reviewers complaining about this games graphics yet not mentioning graphics at all for elden ring. They look the fucking same 😂

Sad to see platnium reduced to such trash though. Game should be called Platniums Fall

Babylon's Fall reviewed on PlayStation 5 by Justin Koreis. Also available on PlayStation 4 and PC.

In many ways, Babylon's Fall feels like the generic store brand of more famous games that came before. The combat is competent, but not engaging and prone to degrading into repetitive button mashing as you trudge through linear level after linear level. Like nearly all action-RPGs its perpetual treadmill of increasing your power to take on greater challenges keeps the campaign afloat, but here it's bare bones and rarely does it offer a twist to make progression compelling. Hints of a distinctive art style are wasted on drab environments and ugly character models. Ultimately, Babylon's Fall just isn't good. It's not terrible or broken, it just "is", and does little to justify investing your time into it.

I hate to love Platinum. Some amazing games, alongside stinkers and I hate their "gun for hire" approach to game development.
