Battlefield 2042 Promises 'Years' of Updates, Acknowledges Fan Complaints

In a recent blog post, developer DICE talked about the current state of Battlefield 2042. To begin, it noted that millions of players had already checked out the game. According to the developer, this amount was almost double the player count compared to its previous release. In addition to mentioning these impressive numbers for the series, it also acknowledged the post-launch problems impacting game performance.

DICE issued a statement about the problems plaguing Battlefield 2042 and gave some details about plans to address these issues. In the post, the developer said that they were paying attention to the feedback of the Battlefield community as it prepared future updates for the game. In addition, it revealed that 3 separate updates were scheduled to improve the overall gameplay experience.

While several patches for the game had already shipped that looked to improve server performance, the blog post gave dates for a couple more updates. Update #2 launches on Thursday, November 25, and Update #3 drops sometime in early December. Furthermore, another update is expected sometime before the end of the year, while the company also plans to unveil more details about Season 1 at the start of 2022.

Beyond giving the dates for these updates, the blog post detailed some of the changes expected to come. Amongst other things, the November 25 update looks to balance Hovercrafts, fix problems with revives, and reduce bullet dispersion for many weapons. In addition, the developer gave details about what to expect from the early December update, revealing that it is much larger. The focus of this massive patch is to improve overall performance, with additional fixes for UI and vehicle animations. Furthermore, it looks to address issues with player progression, along with making "over 150" minor improvements to the various maps featured in the game.

At the end of the lengthy message from the developer, it emphasized that support for the game was inbound. “This is just the beginning!” it read.

No need for updates:

steam numbers plumetted...from 105k to like 60k right? dayummm

I read it's pretty CPU bound on PC. It runs very good on PS5 and I heard they fixed the problem of it crashing Series X consoles.

Now if they let xbox players opt out of cross play with PC or give us all KBM support or fix auto aim it should alleviate a lot of concern.

I opted out of cross play on PS5 and I find games quick and it's smooth so I'm good they just have to fix minor bugs.

I feel at the core it's a great BF game and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Yeah I can see this maybe 1 to 2 years of updates

how? BF4 literally got updates for years, as in I recall an update recently it got to correct issues (I don't know what it was for though, like servers or a bug idk)

ZehDon ZehDon ? BFV's updates and patches never got cancelled.... I think you mean maps continuing to come out, but its still patched, fixed etc, same with BF1, BF4 as booting up those games not too long ago, I recall patches for them as they are still on my HDD....

So theyre pulling another battlefront 2. Why launch a competent game when you fix it over time?

BFV was half off a week after release. How long till 2042 drops?

So the half off thing came from VETERAN players getting it half off, the other was actually a sale, but it was Black Friday, using this fucking logic Red Dead 2 failed too as it was also on sale on Black Friday lol

So sure, you might get it on sale on Black Friday as retailers can set that price. Knowing why that happens can tell you the whole "how long" as I think many just love the fucking narrative of "ohhhhh it flopz so datz why", yet we've see games break records and go on sale, do millions of units....still go on sale, flop.....still go on sale lol

We saw Watch Dogs Legions go on sale and someone said it must have flopped, we then saw AC Valhalla on sale and Ubisoft cited record sales, some times its cause sure....it may have flopped, other times it might be simply cause its a sale by the retailer or the publisher wants to grow the install base regardless post launch. Sony, Ubisoft and EA often do such sales shortly after a release.

So BFV was indeed half off after release, but sir....many games were half off after release on the very date mentioned as you failed to include it was black friday.....

So..."was" its current price years later isn't fucking half off lol That is what we call a "sale" =)

smfh, 49.99 is criminal to charge years later for a MP game lol

btw i do hope you are able to get i on sale for half off lol I have my eye on a few games to get on sale too.

Battlefield 2042 is now the original version of Final Fantasy XIV. The game is fundamentally broken and needs to be revamped from the ground up.

The game isn't anywhere near "fundamentally broken." "Doesn't play the way I want. . ." does not make a game broken. The bugs, sure if they prevent someone from actually playing the game, but nothing I've seen suggests the game is "broken."

The game was on average around 100K. . .on the weekend. It has unsurprisingly dropped during the week.

This feels like dejavu tbh
Fool me once shame on u dice fool me twice shame on me. I think this is the 3rd time now dice. This is battlefield 4 lvl of clusterfuck at launch

Good for them to acknowledge it. Lots of hard work in front of them. I’m not confident it will end up as good as previous games purely based on bad maps and specialists being so completely different from classes.

I hope they can sort it though, I’d like to play a good version of this game some time in the future.

So the stars wars battlefront 2 play book? Companies really don't value first impressions, gamers are too eager to buy incomplete games and help beta test for free.

Lead designer is leaving. 🎉
Thank fuck. Looking at the game, is there any parts of 2042 that is a example of good design? From UX to attachments to specialists to map design to vehicles/gun balance, its pretty much a case study of what not to do in a Battlefield game.

Yea everything about the UI is clunky as fuck. It all should flow especially as we are talking about an fast paced fps game.

Yeah. We heard same thing with Battlefield V, how game will go through entirety of WWII.
Then EA pulled the plug...

Cool, now they only need to change the price of the game to 10 dollars and then gradually getting more pricey over the course of the years when the game is gonna be complete.

Apparently before he joined in 2019 he had worked at King on Candy Crush n all that match-3 crap with micro-transactions. Really makes me wonder who he had to suck off to get given this role at DICE.

I already saw it at 20%-30% off. Glad I didn't buy into DICE's bullshit. BFV already had my internal alarms screaming stinky mess before launch, and this didn't change that. BFIV was broken at launch, however, the game's mechanics and gameplay were solid. 2042 is just another proof that DICE is no longer and whatever stayed is just its corpse.

They literally gave BF V away for free just a couple of weeks ago. Calm down.

He probably had to do nothing to get the job.
EA and Dice wanted BF to become a game as a service, filled with recuring micro-transactions.
So they hired someone that had experience at that.

But this explains a lot, on why BF 042 is such a mess of a game.

Heh, one could be happy but as far history goes those could be nothing but empty promises. They tend to abandon projects that goes with slow mid-start.

Hyperbole.

And to surprise of no one really, you came doing your Battlefield damage control.
