Battlefield 2042 Promises 'Years' of Updates, Acknowledges Fan Complaints

Battlefield the last few releases have been half broken and then fixed over the year. Just wait 6 months to year and most things are fixed and can buy the game cheaper.
Still wish they would release complete games instead of trickle of fixes and promises every time.

He probably had to do nothing to get the job.
EA and Dice wanted BF to become a game as a service, filled with recuring micro-transactions.
So they hired someone that had experience at that.

But this explains a lot, on why BF 042 is such a mess of a game.

Pretty sure they tried this shit since forever since bf3 i believe. They tried every new battlefield to go further on it besides 5 because it was such a clusterfuck of a release.

That's why they hired a professional in leaching money out of consumers.

Now he have to consider, that if the rats are already abandoning the ship, it's not long before it sinks.
So my money is on EA and Dice abandoning it, if it doesn't make enough money soon enough.

Fuck all those devs that release games in a shit state just cause "they ll support the game for years and years", gaas games are a câncer in this industry.
You do know that it’s the publishers and not the developers that push (almost always) impossible release dates on devs which leads to unfinished and unpolished games being released. Blame EA.

One of the major complaints about buggy games is that developers know they can release a game and patch it later. This response is so tone deaf to that.

My buggest surprise after the beta was the map felt empty compared to BF1 - it was too big for 128 players, also it was annoying when you respawn at a base and there are no vehicles around.

I'm kinda done buying promises. We knew the games was not ready, you knew the game was not ready but released it anyway.

The game isn't anywhere near "fundamentally broken." "Doesn't play the way I want. . ." does not make a game broken. The bugs, sure if they prevent someone from actually playing the game, but nothing I've seen suggests the game is "broken."

The game was on average around 100K. . .on the weekend. It has unsurprisingly dropped during the week.
Doing away with classes, flying hovercrafts, UI design, issues with bullet spread, Not being able to revive unless you quit the game to desktop or main menu, Only 22 guns, no scoreboard, no scoring when making a hit or partial healing..... The list goes on and on. It's needs a fucking overhaul.

You've listed two technical issues in that list, neither of which cause the game do be "fundamentally broken." The rest fall under the "I don't like the design decision" forms of criticism.

I love the game so far with the exception of the appearance of the 'specialists' (I think they are silly looking) and not being able to turn off cross-play in the Series version of the game from within the games menu.

There is a whole laundry list of issues I could go into with this. I only listed a few. Oh well, to each their own.

to get me excited i would need them to acknowledge 2042 sucks and the direction they took was a bad idea.
and to adjust the Season passes to steer away from Specialists and 2042 content, and announce they will make a huge push into adding Portal content instead.

I mean it was pretty easy to find.

Agreed. "plan to focus on eliminating bugs" as I knew they didn't just out right cancel patches, updates etc as I literally remember an patch happening a few weeks ago. Stopping support like new maps is a given, but outright zero patches, unlikely. I don't recall reading anything about them just legit no longer doing that.

In a recent blog post, developer DICE talked about the current state of Battlefield 2042. To begin, it noted that millions of players had already checked out the game. According to the developer, this amount was almost double the player count compared to its previous release. In addition to mentioning these impressive numbers for the series, it also acknowledged the post-launch problems impacting game performance.

DICE issued a statement about the problems plaguing Battlefield 2042 and gave some details about plans to address these issues. In the post, the developer said that they were paying attention to the feedback of the Battlefield community as it prepared future updates for the game. In addition, it revealed that 3 separate updates were scheduled to improve the overall gameplay experience.

While several patches for the game had already shipped that looked to improve server performance, the blog post gave dates for a couple more updates. Update #2 launches on Thursday, November 25, and Update #3 drops sometime in early December. Furthermore, another update is expected sometime before the end of the year, while the company also plans to unveil more details about Season 1 at the start of 2022.

Beyond giving the dates for these updates, the blog post detailed some of the changes expected to come. Amongst other things, the November 25 update looks to balance Hovercrafts, fix problems with revives, and reduce bullet dispersion for many weapons. In addition, the developer gave details about what to expect from the early December update, revealing that it is much larger. The focus of this massive patch is to improve overall performance, with additional fixes for UI and vehicle animations. Furthermore, it looks to address issues with player progression, along with making "over 150" minor improvements to the various maps featured in the game.

At the end of the lengthy message from the developer, it emphasized that support for the game was inbound. “This is just the beginning!” it read.
No time for text. EA needs to do CP2077 roadmap slides.

Unless you are totally itching to play BF2042. Just wait it out. All their games hit EA Play about 9 months after launch. This game will be there around summer 2022 just like BF1 and BFV came out the summer after. The franchise has a big enough following so it's not like it'll be dead servers by then.

Thats digital gaming for ya.

Gives devs an out, and a cheap way to fix their shitty product knowing they dont have to do things like old school mailing patches on disc (PC days), or handling recalls, or paying for mechanics to fix a car under warranty. And unless Steam or a digital store allows you to refund, under normal circumstances you cant even refund a broken game and get your money back. You're stuck with it. And they know that.

Even companies that dont have physical goods (banks and insurance companies) always seem to run a tight ship whereas they could always wing it releasing a shitty product knowing all it takes is some company side tweaks to your account and policy to fix things when people email or call them with a problem. But they always seem to hand you a product you signed up for spot on.

Gee, thanks. And here I thought the beginning of game testing and refinement was during the alpha stage, not weeks after retail release.

Fuck they suppose to say? "Well this is the end friends" lol

Who the fuck releases a online MP title and states its the end vs beginning?

Shake out here releasing online games with PR like

At least their marketing department and execs nailed this objective for the year.

The tease comes the way of the EA Support forums, where an unnamed, but confirmed, developer confirms the game's next update is hitting next month. As for why the patch notes haven't been revealed yet, the developer claims the list is still being compiled, noting "it's a lot."

"The next will be considerable (April), and we're currently looking at a few hundred changes. It's mostly bug fixes, but we're also looking to make further changes to for example vehicle balance and the current behavior of attachments for weapons," reads the snippet from the developer. "We'll provide more details on what exactly is in the update closer to its release date via a full set of update notes. I know you would like to know more now, so I want to clarify that I'm not trying to tease you by being vague – I'm simply still compiling the full list of changes for you all because it's a lot."

Adding an edit to this, the developer notes "the update will also contain the End of Round Scoreboard functionality, and VoIP," which we already knew was coming, but it hasn't been confirmed this exact update.

The game is deeply flawed at the design stage. They need to move on to the next and then gift that one for free to anyone who owns this crap.

Imagine waiting 4 months for a scoreboard lol

Doesnt even make sense.

I forget what my first competitive MP game online was, but maybe it was one of the Unreal games on PC. Even that had a basic scoreboard.

I don't even understand completely what they were trying to do with that. Someone not seeing they killed a lot of players was suppose to think differently if they didn't see the stat or something? That shit never stopped me from mowing down a shitload of people and regardless if they can see that scoreboard or not....they know I've been killing them in that same spot horrifically.

Doesn't stop me from knowing.

Doesn't stop simps from knowing.

I just don't know what the goal was with removing that as if someone would feel better simply not knowing the hard number or something, who the fuck was that suppose to help? Even the idea that they wanted a focus on team play, holy shit...the new scoreboard which I believe was just the early version of it, is just fine, it tells you more detail then any other BF title. They should have just left it like that, highlighted that you can now see how is being a team player or something and called it a day.

Those who want to lone wolf will continue to do that regardless and those who are simps will keep getting wrecked, I don't see how removing such a thing would change that.

I'm not even shocked at this point. It was expected they'd be literally hundreds of fixes in many areas. Changing the maps in this game will be an even more massive endeavor.

It doesn't matter they taking the scoreboard for the snowflake players so they don't see who's killing them when you can simply see the name of the player in the kill feed. It's such a dumb move intentionally trying to virtual signaling. Let me see how many people I kill and many times I've died. Developers shouldn't be choosing for us, if they want it so bad to not have a scoreboard in their game, make it an option to disable it. Problem fixed.

Don't they understand that nobody will care how much they will improve the performance when the very core of this mess of a "game" is rotten???

They need to change the fundamentals and only then the players will return. But they don't wanna do that and the price they pay they will.

Not sure why they didn't just Game as Service BF4 running up to it's EoL while the ball was still rolling for them. Now the Franchise needs to just be put on shelf and left for them to think about what they need to do with it. If anything they should just tell DICE to make a badass Pinball game or something while they re-think what to do with the franchise.

Battlefield 2042 Update 4.0 will include over 400 individual bug fixes and quality of life improvements, according to EA DICE community manager Kevin Johnson.

Ahead of the publication of the official patch notes next week, Johnson shared some of the “key bits” set to be included in the update.

Specialists Rao and Paik will have their traits updated, while Sundance’s grenade belt will receive some fixes to allow for better close-range anti-armour grenade target acquisition.

The update will make Ribbons easier to unlock across modes such as Rush, while XP for support actions and teamplay have also been tweaked to promote teamwork.

Fixes for an ADS bug when exiting a vehicle and reviving near obstacles are also included.

And attachments will be overhauled “with a focus on ensuring they feel unique and have an impact on your loadout choice and gunplay”.

If there is one thing I won't doubt, its that indeed they will have 400 fixes....how much of that will correct this mess, who knows lol

They've actually had a few updates that went into the hundreds already btw, so this doesn't sound like some wild claim, that sounds like the norm of whats going on with this game. This long, this many updates and its still rough goes to show just how much issues this game has.

It doesn't matter how many bugs they fix. The unterlying gameplay is so shitty (maps first and foremost) that every try to save this turd is in vain. They should refund the people who bought the "season pass" scam and ditch 2042. It's beyond repair.
