Battlefield V has double the player-count of Battlefield 2042 on Steam / EA Director of Comms for shooters says expectations are “Brutal”

I keep seeing these posts about the game being "broken" or unplayable. I suspect you've never played 2042 and are just saying shit? This is easily the most non-broken Battlefield release I can remember. The shitty thing is they finally release a Battlefield that doesn't still have major technical issues months after release....and yet it's saddled with all the other issues.

It'll be interesting to see what Dice plans to do with this going forward. Despite all the problems I'm still managing to squeeze entertsinment out of it but once Dying Light 2 releases I'll shelve it and come back in a few months. Hopefully they can sort themselves out, if not it'll be years before we see another battlefield ugh
Are we playing the same Battlefield 2042? This game is honestly the biggest waste of money in the last 20 years. The amount of broken shit, missing content, and straight up lazy development is offensive. The game barely works. It's like saying a wagon with square wheels is driveable, you're going to be begging to get off a mile into the trip.

To be fair bfv is on ea access (and subsequently gp) while 2042 is a separate purchase. My friends haven't bought it yet because they want the next gen version but still can't even get close to grabbing a console, so they said why bother getting the game now?

Yeah, we are playing the same game. There are very little technical issues with 2042, the game works just fine and like I said, it arguably works better than any of the other modern Battlefields when compared to a month or so after launch. The changes to gameplay or the inclusion of specialists or whatever don't change the fact that the game is technically operating well right now.

The issue with 2042 is the fundamental changes made to the core of what makes Battlefield Battlefield. The fact that we could be having a traditional Battlefield experience right now with the technical proficiency of 2042 is infuriating to imagine.

Battlefield has been shit for years. They need to just kill the franchise or take 4-5 years off to develop something people actually want to play.

Also in before the mental degenerate fanboys come crying about how the game is totally amazing and everyone are just haters.

Agreed, but shit I stopped playing with BF1 so it's already been 5yrs of waiting for me. BF practically doesn't exist to me anymore. This whole waiting for a good game thing is a waste of time. I've been waiting for a good Halo game since Reach and it's clear that will never happen.

The bitter fanbases should shift focus, forget about these franchises that don't care about them, and spend time playing better games.

This game is so anti-fun I don't even know what to say anymore. No map rotation, not enough players already, no this, no that. I just don't understand what the reasoning behind every bad decision was. Let's just take out everything that worked and add nothing in return. Let's make the worst possible Battlefield since Hardline( and even that was more fun).

I wish that were the case, but take a look at Halo: Infinite. As long as enough people are willing to pay , we will continue to get subpar experiences.

Battlefield has been essentially dead for me since Bad Company 2. I tried ot get into 3 and 4, and while I can have some enjoyment, they are a clear step down. BF1, V, and 2042 are just fucking insulting.

Why lump BF1 into that list? Hell why lump a game you haven't played into your list of games that are a "clear step down". BF1 was an amazing game in every department (Good campaign, graphics, gameplay, audio, immersion, unique setting).

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Infinite but for me i loved the campaign (second best after the first imo), and the MP is pretty awesome.

If you're talking about features being missing at launch etc, then fair point.

Returned to BF1 after a brief stint on 2042. Don't even have faith they'll turn it around somewhat like BFV

Hell yeah. I played 2042 on gamefly over the holidays. It was shite.

Going back to Amiens and Argonne Forest after 2042 was like coming up for fresh air. It just feels 100x better and more natural to play. It actually FEELS like Battlefield.

The fuck you on about? I did play all of them. They were trash.

I stated it before in the other Halo threads, but ultimately I *adored* the feeling of the shooting (aside from Covenant weapons which all felt like trash to me) in Infinite. But it was the insulting lack of content across the board from campaign (there wasn't enough visual diversity and the "open world" felt too Ubisoft cookie cutter for my tastes) to MP that I can't stand.

I am sure the game will be much, much better in 2-3 years once a lot more content is out, more maps, modes, etc - but we should expect more from devs than that. Especially for a tent pole, genre defining title such as Halo. I *want* to love Halo Infinite, but they do everything in their power to push me away.

I'm glad I only bought the cheapest version and on my USA account so it's even cheaper. Still haven't played it lol.

The thing is battlefront 2 and battlefield v sold better and yet they had their support cut short. Yes they got a couple of years but they were both hitting their prime when they cut support.

They'd have been better off not making 2042 and support bfv and bf2 instead for another 2 years.

So I'm not feeling confident this game will get the years of support the old ones got. BF6 will probably launch in like 5 years and it better be like BF4 or they're fucked.

I thought Battlefront 2 got a ton of content over its first 2 years or so?. I have the full game but its been a while.

I think my problem with Battlefield, or more with Dice themselves, is that apparently so many old school Battlefield devs have moved on in recent years that will we ever get that oldschool 3 and 4 magic again?.

In fact i wonder if they will go ahead with Battlefront 3 next, take a break from Battlefield. I know there have been rumours about no new Battlefront a while a go but with 40mil sales between Battlefront 1 and 2, its a matter of when, not if.

What really pisses me off is the community now supporting BFV when they weren't there when the game needed it. It's a great game, it hasn't changed that much in a while, why the fuck weren't you playing when EA needed to see the demand for the game was there and it deserved more content?

The BF community always does this: Pre-order, get disappointed, suddenly love the previous release, bitch about the new game at every opportunity for years, pre-order the next one, get disappointed, suddenly love the previous release...
I don't blame the players for DICE/EA's failure to launch a good game at release. If you fix it six months or a year later, many have already moved on.

Also, BF1 was pretty universally beloved at launch. Cuz it was excellent.

BF1 was NOT universally loved at launch, i remember well. Its revisionist history that comes about with V being way worse, and 2042 being god awful (i dont mean you're doing revisionist history, its just something that can happen when something even worse comes later).

Amen. Its hilarious. Stinks of 'fans' not knowing what they want.

Lol at broken game. I bet most people shitting on it haven't even played it and just parroting disgruntled players from reddit. Been playing and loving this game.
I have been playing it and the game is still an absolute broken mess.

Off the top of my head from the ~2 hour attempt to play 2 days ago.

No loadouts.
All vehicles reset
All skins reset
Spawn being unable to move
Having to die only to be unable to skip the 30 second revive timer
Respawn into being incapable of damaging players in any way forced to redeploy
Get stuck on a 30 second long '1' second response timer
Revive player only to lose the ability to jump or climb
Spawn in vehicle and lose the ability to ADS after jumping out
Spawn in direct line of sight of enemy players
Spawn in the arsehole of enemy players
Spawn in the middle of the entire enemy team while 2/3rds of the map was entirely safe
Reload weapon only to find out 30 seconds later when engaging an enemy I only have 3 bullets
Attempt to blow up wall to kill enemy player only for the wreckage to block my view of the player while they merrily shoot through it as though it doesn't exist
Lose a round of rush after clearing an armed OBJ and having 5 team mates sitting on top of it but not being allowed to disarm it
Losing a round of rush after blowing up all objs but since we ran out of tickets while it was in overtime we lose

And on and on and on I could go.

The game is a fucking mess. It takes a special kind of smooth brain to defend this shit.

Again? Lmao.
The funniest thing about the free weekends that keep happening with battlefield is that they come at the worst possible times.

I can't imagine any self respecting human playing 2042 over a weekend in its current state and thinking to themselves that yes, the game is totally worth their money.

Infact they will see just how bad it is and simply move on and never look back.

Just like the free weekend they tried with BFV right in the middle of one of its worst patches and when their anticheat was completely broken so literally every server had multiple hackers.

The incompetence of dice is truly boundless.

Battlefield has been dead to you since ~2011 but you've played literally every installment since? Listen to yourself man.

Enlighten us, what did BF1 do that made it trash?

Why yes, how dare a fan give every game a chance. Do you even listen to yourself, kiddo? Work on your reading comprehension.

As for BF1? Poor, overly simplistic map design. Awful weapon balance. Inconsistent art direction (WW1, but filled with weapons that simply didn't exist back then? Also capes?). Subpar audio quality. Need I go on?

People buy and spent time playing V because it has campaign the online part is a bonus

2042 has no singleplayer campaign to atract player

The fact that the only reedemable aspect was a side feature (Portal) to the point that now even the previously hated BF game is now more played shows how you truly fucked up.

So this is the week's bitching about Battlefield thread right? How about this. Why do they make you aim down the sites in order to switch fire modes.

Maybe my memory is skewed because I played it at launch and loved it (and didn't like BFV, and hated 2042). But at minimum, I'm pretty sure the consensus at launch was way, way better than the last two games.

Funny part is this is actually not true? I was just playing and was able to switch fire modes without needing to ADS.

If I make a mistake then I fix it, I shut the fuck up and fix it. The amount of money involved in this catastrophe is ludicrous so people have a right to be upset. 2042 has been front page for like 3 months and right now no one from EA should be opening their mouths because they got taken advantage of. After that release they should be working and taking it, and maybe give a reach around while you at it. I haven't trusted them since they did thrill kill dirty and the list goes on from there. Dice made their bed and now they have to sleep in it. I wish Dice the best and I believe in their work but stop with this PR BS and do your job.

says expectations are “Brutal”

Statements like this piss me off. Yes, expectations can be brutal. No, expectations for your 5th or 10th attempt or whatever are NOT brutal.

I am extremely lenient when I see problems in games if it's the first in a franchise. But my tolerance drops with every new entry. You don't get to make the same mistakes over and over and over and expect there to be forgiveness.

Battlefield for that last couple entries have all released broken and fixed up mostly after 4-6 months. People are fine to get pissed but don't act surprised they released a broken game. It's been their MO for a while with battlefield. Very much was noticable on battlefield 4 release.
Exactly, But these weird critics cherry pick this game…I think the bugs this game released with was unreasonable…but the game itself is awesome! and needs some updates. Its overall fun af. But we have a case of trolls riding the hate train for no reason… some who never actually played it…LOL

Save the massive player counts for something like battlefront where you could potentially have land, air and space battles in a single map.
Disagree…not every battlefield game will be a clone of the last installment… this is whats wrong with gamers…they want new and then don’t want it…

So do you think 128 players has made this game any better than bf4?

At no point yet have I personally thought wow these additional numbers have really improved the experience.

There’s definitely going to be a sweet spot, but I don’t believe 128 players has made the game great.
