Battlefield V has double the player-count of Battlefield 2042 on Steam / EA Director of Comms for shooters says expectations are “Brutal”

I’m sorry but this is bullshit. I understand and agree that everyone deserves to be able to rest over the holidays and I don’t disagree with that. They knew that they were going to come back to a shit show and that there would be a mountain of work in front of them. Thinking otherwise is stupid and naive

Also, how dare he say that expectations are brutal. Of course they are, the games a fucking joke. Plus, this is all on them, they hyped the hell out of the game and it was/is a massive turd, so of course people are going to be pissed. I’d have been pissed if I spent £70 on it too.

Perhaps if they had made the game they said they were going to make and implemented the basic features that were available in previous games then maybe it would be a different story. Instead, we have this mess that likely isn’t going to get better anytime soon judging by the language used.

I’m not sure about anyone else but I don’t feel sorry for them and I’m sick of the poor developer rhetoric in this case.

Lmao, what a bullshit. They have no balls to tell their boss that this isn't ok, that things aren't finished, and yet they have the balls to say fans' expectations are brutal for just wanting a working game?

The management is bad, but the devs are complicit. They'd rather tell you that "your expectations" are unrealistic than telling their boss that same sentence.

Of course. The boss signs the checks.

BF2042 should have beend delay for a year or half of the year at least. It had a huge potential and return BF back to glory but greed won and the game lost.

Not surprising. I got really into BF1 and then played a fair bit of BFV, but I've only used about 3 hours of my 10 hour trial in 2042, and I think I'm done. Just not enjoyed it at all.

And yet, we have people here saying there's nothing wrong with this game.

I do kinda get the defence of this game…. It’s Battlefield.

A beloved franchise that many people wont bad mouth no matter how poor the game turns out to be.

I love Battlefield, have done since Battlefield 2, however even I can see how much of a cluster fuck 2042 is

Literally haven't seen anyone state that there were no issues at all with the game.

On the other hand there was someone claiming the game doesn't work at all which is completely false and has never been true even during the early release.

I’m just sad at the situation.

Battlefield is one of my most favourite gaming series’.

Played and owned them all since BF2.

It’s such a shame that this will likely be the last Battlefield game for years.

Bugs and glitches never bothered me in BF games. I played BF4 closed beta on PS3. No textures. Tons of fun. Rather play it again instead of 2042.

They should just release BF3/4 "HD" bundle with all DLC included and call it a day.

99.9% of the people making the game aren't taking any consumer's money, they are either contracted or salaried employees. Similarly they have no say in the publishing side, so you can't even hold them responsible for the launch timing - that stuff is decided waaaay above their paygrade.

So by saying what you're saying the inference is they are obliged to mistreat and abuse their employees to make the fanbase happy.
Then the workers has to stand up against the company and say “sorry we can’t finish this game on time”. If the company ignores you. Go on strike! Have some f-ing pride in your work.

But fine. I won’t buy anymore games from them. If more people do the same they are eventually out of a job all together.

Fan expectations are brutal? Is this guy for real? I understand a lot of fans like to use their internet privilege to throw venomous shit at devs and its unacceptable. My advice to the devs ignore them, mute them, block them, DO NOT address them.

Using those type of hyper negative fans as a scapegoat for all fans being entitled or havig brutal expectations is frankly pathetic.

It is your fucking JOB to make games. You do not work at an indie company putting your life and creativity on the line to try and make it big, you work for EA ffs. Your job is to make high end AAA games (preferably fully featured and fully functioning), the expectation that you do your JOB is not 'brtual'. Considering how popular it is to talk about gamers being entitled, it seems to me that AAA devs are the most entitled of all.

1. To repeat yet again, its your fucking job. If you are making broken products you are not doing your job. Peop[le expecting you to do your job is not brutal, its what you get paid for.

2. Why are you taking holiday breaks? Thats not an entitled statment its a logical one. Retail workers don't have breaks over the holidays because its peak business time. What exactly is the difference here? Xmas is absolute peak gaming time and if your game is MP focused (or in BF2042s case only MP) you better make sure you got all hands on deck during launch/peak play times to make sure the game is stable and being patched appropriately.

3. Crunch is absolutely brutal and I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Crunch has also nothing/zero/zilch to dow ith fans. They do not decide launch dates, pay your wages or rake in ridiculous sums of money from the game. Fans have no power of crunch and the vast majority hate it, passing the buck to fans as if they somehow cause crunch is BS.

These companies and their execs and financially incentivised to never EVER accept blame.

This industry is crying out for some sort of QA oversight. BF is a perfect franchise to go through its history and see how it has objectively got worse over time. The latest iteration; Costs more than ever before, has no campaign, is fucked on the technical side, fucked on the design side and tonally has nothing in common with previous entries. And ofcourse all MTX are fully functioning day one. Half the product, twice the price, devs calling out fans for entitlement; Modern gaming!

I was a fan of Battlefield and played the shit out of BC2, BF3, and BF4. Then I tried Dice’s Star Wars Battlefront, which was such an anemic offering I was like “oh well back to BF4.”

Then I was excited for BF1, only to play it and find the weapon unlock system was the same as Battlefront, as you just unlocked basically the same weapons over again but with different attachments. That was disappointing. Also they had to take a lot of liberties like using experimental automatic weapons of the time period to fill out the weapon roster, which was fine.

BFV? It’s WW2, but not accurate to the time period, and if you realize that, then you were labeled sexist. After being slightly disappointed with BF1, and then them pulling that crap with V, I tried the beta for it, and that was pretty much it. I could see the series was heading down hill after 4.

Its minsboggling that after 20 years of battlefied the game is released in this state , I think the first one was released in 2002 and
That's the problem , fans want 20 years of improvements , not this unfinished mess

Yo straight up at this point I'd be just happy with 20 years of Battlefield. Just Battlefield. Plain ol Battlefield.

Just....just give me Battlefield ok?

Why are people so entitled that they believe a company should meet the expectations it set on the Christmas presents it sold them? That makes no sense. /s

It is really so mindboggling though? The core creators of the Battlefield series are long gone and the new blood just dont have it. Sometimes it just boils down to talent.

Also, the game had an un-curable birth defect the second they decided to nix classes - the backbone of the entire Battlefield ip.

Sure 2042 has a shit load of glitches and bugs - those can be fixed, but the core overall design is 2042 is just not good. Specialists, horrible map design, C-tier gunplay, only 4-player squads in a 128 player game. Its just bad.

This has nothing to do with going woke... the game is broken

4.23M across all platforms????
Cumulatively yeah, but the actual player count is obviously just a fraction of that if they are including refunds and trials in there. Especially now that the players are leaving the game in droves.

"Trust me the game is fine! It plays great!" says the biased person working on the newly delayed game who also literally needs you to buy their stuff in order for them to make a living who also happens to work for a company who is famous for releasing games that are bug riddled messes at launch.

Seems legit! 🙃
