Battlefield will be a "meaningful part" of EA's future, despite Battlefield 2042 disappointments

EA CEO Andrew Wilson says that he has "extraordinary confidence" in the Battlefield leadership team.

Speaking during the company's latest investor report, Wilson name-dropped the FPS series a surprising number of times given the difficult launch of its latest outing. He spoke on taking "ownership" and "building [...] for the future" of several major brands, including Battlefield, and mentioned "our ability to bring Battlefield back in an entirely new way in the future."

Later in the call, during a Q+A session, Wilson was asked about how projects attached to Battlefield IP were progressing. While he said in response that "we don't have any date announcements," he also said that having had a recent call with the series' new leadership team, he had "extraordinary confidence in that team and extraordinary confidence in the progress they're making against the future of that franchise."

More information on that project will come when it's "appropriate" to share it, but Wilson says that the series is "firmly implanted" in EA's strategy: "building games and experiences that attract and entertain massive online communities across platforms, across business models, across geographies. And we think that Battlefield is going to be a meaningful part of our future. We'll share more as time progresses."

It has been a decade since we had a great Battlefield. And ever since the quality has been on a steep decline.
The brand name in in the gutter, and the people currently at DICE don't seem capable of doing a proper job.
Especially after BF2042, it's no longer enough to talk about ambitions for the franchise and show some trailers.

They can start be releasing the PC version of Battlefield 3 on modern consoles please.
That will tide the true fan base over until they (hopefully) right the ship.

BF1, V, and 2042 were all massive fuck ups.
As a hardcore Battlefield fan from the early 2000s to the 2010s - that franchise just went to complete shit. Unacceptable.

I wouldnt mind modern ports of the PC's BF2, Nam, and 42 as well.

Battlefield4 remake.

Don’t fuck with shit, don’t change shit, just the new engine, new graphics.

Free to play.

Seasons

Clean up on profit, do this with a team 1/10 the size of dice.

Its so easy...*

Make it like BF4, make it work day one, let there be More Armies fighting at once...4 teams? 1 team vs 3? 2v2?(Obviously same player count of all sides; and yes... balance would be borderline impossible with these scenarios).

China and russ VS Nato and US?

US and Russia VS Nato and China?

US and Russia and China VS Nato?

Let us mix it up in the Armies vs Armies on all maps when starting matches.

High player count is GREAT with all the chaos and the versetility you use AND encounter... But if the maps are SOOO BIG you never meet half the enemies... I think it's a missed mark.

64 or 256, I'd be fine with both IF the maps are done in such a way... we can't escape fighting A LOT! in more focused Areas... which was highly lacking in most recent Battlefield games(IMHO).

I dont remember the names of the maps, but clusterF*** maps where you are fighting non stop of waves of infantry and smaller lighter armored Vehicles.
I find that too be more fun then large; and too often empty areas, with too much walking and little too do but run and die... respawn, run and die.
Unless we get too build stuff in thoose places, like BF1 did... a small bit at least, far from enough(Let me place EVERY BARRIER AS I PLEASE... I WANNA BUILD A PROPPER WALL! MAKE PILLBOXES!ETC!SimCity?!... Please).

I enjoy my self a bunch in a M1A1 blasting suicide C4 Throwers away as they chuck them selfs at my big boy boots... Big Tanks, planes, choppers and FUN Vehicles are must for Battlefield games.
I want VISUAL revealing items on the Vehicles that will tell you the "kit"... weapon stats/stash?... What THAT enemy tank have as weaponry and defence(Like Smoke launchers on the side VISABLE = Smoke screen against our vision and weaponry. Louder Tank engien=Faster... Bigger Armor chunks = More HP, Thropy System for missile defence, etc!)
But I also want too style my Vehicles up... but not in a ... Santa sleed... please keep it tacticool.

And ffs, keep the classes in... if EA wants too add specialists too sell and shit, Just add a... "Spec-Ops" DLC, where you play as the spesialist at any random server, your own set of missions... in a allready ongoing match, jump in solo(Solid Snake?) or with a Team(Bravo9?) and... have X amount of missions on the Map at random places... every army is a enemy?
Wouldn't that be at least... different enough?

I played a bunch of Battlefield and the last one I asked for a refund from steam after the "Alpha"... same did everyone I know.

No bots... too fill up the server.

No flying fortress that can withstand 15 tank shells...

Hell! Chuck VR in there too One Up Cod!

*IMHO, lol

EA can't make a Battlefield game anymore. Whatever EA management wants is irrelevant if the talent to make the game is not in the building.

Talk is cheap. Show it in the product, whore.
They’ve improved the game a lot. But like with Battlefront 2 (where they completely overhauled the game and removed the lootboxes) too many people look at how the game was at launch and not how it currently exists.

If there was ever a series that could have taken queues from Fortnite live service aspect it was BF

no not the dancing and mtx, rather an evolving online story and map/gameplay etc

Imagine there was like 6-8 maps in rotation but they all evolve and change over months as well as with each season introduce new gameplay elements , it would do really well I think (I also feel this is where warzone is a huge letdown). Of course I want them to maintain and strive for realism like prior titles (realism as far as it goes before hindering fun), I definitely don't want Nicki manaj running around BF cackling her nonsensical sentences and doing the foop foop or whatever gen Zers are into these days

Battlefield 3 was the last BF that was actually fun for me. 4 was okay, but seemed uninspired in comparison.

Haha fk off - they have had so many chances to redeem themselves, but keep fucking it up.
Not interested. They need a miracle.

If only they would make a new BF2. I still think that was the best. Bring back commander, squads and VoIP. Vehicles on the map. Aircraft carriers. Destructible radars and artillery.... And most importantly. Classes with no fken bs characters.

Who in their right mind is going to believe what these lot say after everything that has happened.

Just remake BF 3 and 4, two separate games as one normal priced game. Make them play exactly with how they did back then, same maps/same characters, ditch these 2042 losers with there stupid special moves.

Eh, show don’t tell. Make an amazing installment first and prove you know what you’re doing and we’ll go from there.

"We'll keep trying EVERYTHING to bring back this series to popularity. Well, except what the fans are asking for".

Taking lesson from modern Hollywood, I see.

It's hard to overstate the amount of good will lost by BF2042, so any statements regarding the next entry deserve to be scrutinized as much as possible. Particularly anything about "reimagination".

It should like they've learned nothing and are going to double down on their arrogance and tell the players what they want rather than listening to them. I understand that there is a balance, but they certainly ignored the players work 2042 and then tried to wind it back. Unfortunately it was too late and the damage was done.

Counterpoint: I would argue it's hard to understate the amount of good will lost by BF2042 because it's not a thing. People will buy+play the next BF based purely on how that game looks. Nary a soul will say "The new BF looks fun but I won't buy it because BF2042 was bad."

It looks like we’ll get a new battlefield, based on the fact that 2042 since last year has kinda improved is ok to play right now, I think people not having socom keeps people up at night.

I don't much care what EA or DICE has to say about the franchise, the last 2 entries have damn near killed the entire franchise.

I have just a glimmer of hope because Vince Zamppela is the head of the Battlefield franchise now, but even with that I think we just want to see actual proof. Less talking more show us the actual goods and they better be good.
