Wait a minute. I saw a couple reviews complaining about the ending. Is that what they're mad over?

lol you can’t make this shit up.

I literally have never once thought in the many years since Bayo 1 came out thought that she was a lesbian. Now she’s straight and it’s a betrayal of the character? Doesn’t this type of thinking ignore bisexual people? I guess we shouldn’t apply logic, let’s just let the anointed ones tell us how to feel about this combat-focused game based on the character’s sexuality….Wait what the fuck are we talking about?

Polygon and The Verge are so cringe. Although i fear it might not be as good as the other games. The art direction is really lacking.

If all you care about is button-ramming combat that’s similar to Devil May Cry, you’ll have a ball. But if you ever wanted to believe that there was something deeper to Bayonetta’s story — some grander statement about femininity and sexuality and power dynamics — you’ll find the truth to be quite a disappointment.
I disagree with this statement. I've always felt that there was some level of old school feminist energy from Bayonetta, like her "sexyness" was always her own way of expressing herself. It's part of what makes her a badass.

Good to hear it's a great game. Really loved 1 and haven't gotten around to playing 2 so I have some work to do! Really wish 2 would go on sale on the eShop but I still have it for WiiU.

I actually agree with you here. They seem to do their best work (the last few years at least) for Nintendo than elsewhere.

Wouldn't they make the exact same game on any other platform?

Bayonetta 1 was on cutting edge (For its time) hardware and it was celebrated just as much as this.

True, but I'm just saying they would have more focus. More games like Bayonetta and Astral Chain and fewer games like Babylon's Fall.

88? I’m surprised. In a good way, mind.

Hard to not think that all the reviewers had an alternative, lower-scoring version of their review ready if the truth about Hellena Taylor’s story didn’t come out in time.

It’s still strange that a relatively niche Nintendo exclusive with predictably… not stellar production values and performance can score this high. Seems like one of those ever-rarer cases of a game that’s mainly being judged on how good it is to, you know, play. Unfortunately Bayonetta and action-heavy games in general don’t usually appeal to me, but I’m glad Platinum didn’t drop the ball.

The Polygon stuff is a combination of toe curling cringe and pity.

Can you actually fathom being so pathetically shallow that you need validation from a computer game character?

There is such a tremendous moral vacuum within their souls; these empty vessels that float through life thinking they’re Pokémon trainers. It’s why they struggle so much with JK Rowling. The sad deluded bastards think magic actually exists.

To be fair, Nintendo wouldn't have them chasing GaaS like Babylon's Fall.

The big problem for them is that something just doesn't seem to work in their finances. Not sure how they were constantly teetering on the edge of financial ruin until their recent cash injection to make games like Babylon's fall. So you're right that being owned will help them focus vs chasing money.

Bayonetta's a bit of a weird one. Never really sells crazy numbers despite the high review scores.

Are there people really calling conspiracy of a game that is only currently sitting on a high 80 average for reviews? Jesus tits lol. Looking forward to diving into this game this weekend. The reviewer who is pouting because Bayonetta apparently doesn't align with what they expected her sexuality to be is certainly something else as well.

What is genuinely amusing is how the pan sexual clown shoes at Polygon et al had convinced themselves that Bayonetta was really an ironic take on the male gaze and a hyper sexualised commentary on heteronormative tropes.

Actually, just turns out Platinum like naked chicks.

Welcome to Japan ladies (or men, more likely).

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Bayonetta is a powerful woman and does go against the norms with her unusual proportions, attitude and pretty much everything she is, at the same time it's stupid to expect an emotional feminist meaning spelled out, women can just be and be themselves, not symbols, to be worthwhile, like duh.

Wow that polygon quote

Didn’t know Bayonetta was political

Who ever went into these games caring about who Bayonetta fucks?

I’m sure his/pers/hers/theirs/vis/xyrs/hirs would have been disappointed whatever the outcome. Platinum can’t win here.

Another day, another Polygon review attacking something for not portraying characters in the "right way" (their way).

Polygon should be nuked from orbit.
I got banned from Polygon on the Bayonetta 2 comment section actually. I pointed out with screenshots that the dude reviewing the game and literally marking the score down for having super minimal erotic content had his real picture up on SuicideGirls.com in a user profile. What kind of creeper makes a profile on a porn site with his real picture? But Bayonetta 2 was too erotic and demeaning for him, the fake digital character designed by a woman in Japan.

Don't matter much. Sometimes people are capture by algorithm like google search, youtube or twitter and end up in that site, mainly people looking for reviewers on youtube.
My statement was more rhetorical in nature. My bad.

It's funny who some reviewers shit on a game that doesn't.....fully align to their beliefs. I know, shocking right?

Seriously, can't wait to dive into this one. Bayonetta has been golden since the beginning, and from what I've seen of 3 has been great. I love her traversal form and kaiju moments are freaking epic. LoL its going to be so hard to bounce between CoD MP, RE83rd Person, Star Ocean and this. Good Lord, I've already beaten a few games and put some in the backlog in prep. Even if this scored much lower I would've kept my preorder lol, I don't put stock in the greater games media. Smaller outlets, independents and fellow gamers sure. That possible ending I like since the suggestion was always there, my gf and I really liked that dynamic since I bought the first years ago.

I have no problem reading an alternate point of view. What matters is whether anything that is said has any merit. This review, does not. For instance....

I've never played a Bayonetta game in my life, but I know from what I've seen this is not the game where one should be looking for grand statements on "femininity". This isn't a coming of age tale. What kind of idiot plays a Platinum video game expecting to find something more akin to Dontnod or a movie starring Meryl Streep?

I'll be picking it up, but I still got to finish Bayonetta 2. After 8 years, I still have yet to play it through.

While this has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself also, I am really not a fan of her hairstyle in this one. It just doesn't fit her character, and doesn't project her attitude well. I thought it was a prequel when the game was first revealed, because it made me think she was a young teenager or something. Something about it screams young high school student to me, I'm not sure how to explain.

I do have problem, but with ethic. People should be warned from the start, before even clicking in the link, that the review contains A LOAD OF SPOILERS.

IMO, the Polygon reviewer hate the ending of this game, so he write spoiler after spoiler in bad faith. Just looking by his behavior on Twitter is the proof.
