Ok first of all, why no Elden Ring? well I think it's pretty obvious, the vast majority would choose it and it would be very unfair for every other JRPG released this year, so yes we all know it's the best one but which one is in second place?
I'm going with Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, it's a Final Fantasy game by Team Ninja for crying out loud! (Ninja Gaiden/Nioh) why is it not more popular?
Anyway I think many players are still sleeping on this game, it was massively overshadowed back in march by Elden Ring and only a few gave it a chance, it has however received a lot of support through the year with DLC, I just finished the last one this week and it's actually meaningful DLC that changes gameplay mechanics, it's unlike any other Soulslike thanks to the implementation of the classic FF Job System and Diablo-like lootdrops that make for a very fun Gameplay loop, the Story is corny and not serious but it's clearly meant to be that way, it may not be for everyone but I had fun watching all the fourth wall breaking jokes.
My runner up would be Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I like both games for the exact same reason, both have really deep Class/Job Systems but FFO wins thanks to it's Co-Op multiplayer, I would say it's the most fun I've had with a multiplayer game this year, even more than Elden Ring.
