Best "one and done" game ever made?

Phediuk

Member
I'm taking a strict definition of "one and done" here, as in, a game that was released on one platform, was not part of a pre-existing franchise or licensed property, never got any sequels, remakes, or remasters, and has never been re-released, not even as part of a retro compilation or on a DD service.

Any suggestions for contenders?

EDIT: Okay, I've gone through the North American NES, Genesis, SNES, PS1, N64, PS2, GameCube, and Xbox libraries and compiled all the games that satisfy the requirements. These lists should be complete. I have ranked them according to their number of GameFAQs user ratings, which is a pretty good indicator of notoriety, if not quality.

That's some tough ass criteria... I'm scratching my head and can't come up with anything.

For those saying Black it can't be because it came out on ps2 and xbox

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System

Black

Edit: Your single platform limitation is ridiculous. Should be single gen. No remasters.

Whoa, TIL Black is on Xbox 360 and PC.

I think you maybe need to set a limit on it as well, like last gen is still too recent for a game to not have a sequel....

I'm also just trying to keep myself upbeat for a 3D Dot Game Heroes sequel that will never happen.

I'm taking a strict definition of "one and done" here, as in, a game that was released on one platform, was not part of a pre-existing franchise or licensed property, never got any sequels or remakes, and has never been re-released, not even as part of a retro compilation or on a DD service.

Any suggestions for contenders?

Not sure why being on one platform has to be a criteria. One generation would make more sense. Games like Nier, Alpha Protocol, and Jade Empire would then count.

This was ported to iOS.

I would think something that applies to this topic would be on a handheld though, but I can't think of anything.

This kind of stretches the definition a bit as it's a US spin-off of a Japanese franchise that did have a couple entries, but Elite Beat Agents.

Thank you for reminding me I still need to play this. I hope it comes to the Wii U VC
who am I kidding...Nintendo went into mobile before updating VC with N64 games

still hoping for that remake one day. It would benefit immensely from dual analog controls and a better framerate

rereleased a gazillion times and has a sequel.

Treasure has made lots of games that fit the OP description perfectly though. Mischief Makers!

Nier is technically part of the Drakengard series, so it wouldn't count here regardless.

Anything by Kamiya. He makes a new IP then moves on to make another new IP.

Edit: Wait, I read the question wrong. Well his Xbox One exclusive Scalebound should be a one and done game right? lol
