So yesterday a friend had me watch this amazing documentary "Big River Man" about this guy Martin Strel, who is one of the world's most elite endurance swimmers. He's also pretty overweight, drinks 2 bottles of wine a day and, at the start of the movie, planning to swim the entire length of the Amazon River. If that sounds nuts, it is. The movie is equal parts funny and tragic, triumphant and harrowing, it deals with sports, religion, insanity, the environment, superheroes, strained family relations, alcoholism, Brazil, eastern Europe and ... a psychedelic waterslide. It really has something for everyone, basically, plus some pretty impressive cinematography.
