Bringing Emotion into Action: 25 Years of Animation at Ubisoft With Gilles

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

In 1997, Gilles thought he was applying to Ubisoft to be a motion capture actor, but instead he became an animator. Over 25 years, he helped build an animation powerhouse at Ubisoft by focusing on what he knows best: deconstructing the movement of the human body.

In the early days, Ubisoft was IMO the best at animation (with major props for Naughty Dog and Insomniac too)

Rayman 2 and 3
Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy
Splinter Cell games between 1 to both console gen versions of Double Agent (Xbox and Xbox 360)
Assassin's Creed 1 and 2.

Nobody back in the day did animation as well as Ubisoft. The bar has risen across the industry since though.

What a fucking embarrassment its become overall next to how it was about 6-7 years ago. I'm not saying its all shit now but the gulf between the lows and highs of animation quality in the recent games is just ridiculous. Pile o shite imo, hopefully they get back to animations that blow you away as the gen goes on.
