Changes at Square Enix

[7/1/2004 10:47:36 AM ET]

Square Enix Co., Ltd. has revealed several changes to its U.S. organization designed to “establish a globally consistent corporate brand image.”
Formerly branded Square-Enix U.S.A. Inc., the stateside group will now go by the moniker Square Enix, Inc. Global president Yoichi Wada will also serve as chief executive officer of the U.S. division. Co-chief operating officers Jun Iwasaki and Ichiro Otobe will focus on the videogame business and the mobile and network segments respectively.
Also, former Enix Corp. president, and current executive vice president of Square Enix Co., Ltd., Keiji Honda, will lead the company’s China business, while Jun Yamamoto, formerly president and CEO of Atlus U.S.A., Inc. has been named president and CEO of Square’s European arm, Square Enix Ltd.
The company stated, “This reorganization in the US creates the foundation for future global expansion that will be strategic to extending Square Enix's overall business.”
The website of Square’s U.S. division will also change it’s URL, dropping the “USA” part of the address. The new URL is www.square-enix.com.

this could be the biggest news right here. If this guy was responsible for even half the risky titles Atlus U.S.A. chose to bring over, European Square Enix fans should be very happy. Running Atlus U.S.A., a company that practically lives off of localizing games, gives him just the background he needs to deliver what European gamers have been wanting from Square Enix, that being timely, quality translations.
