This is an easy bet for him to make. 6 months to go and a rumor of a pro console makes it a 50/50 chance of a 30 minute showcase.

It makes a lot of sense tactically.

One showcase before ‘E3’, some news at the game fest and then a showcase around the time Spiderman launches inc the new model PS5
this right here. They gotta have one for the playstation slim launch and spiderman.

They can show some 2024 games then. I wonder if they'll have anything for spring like they used to.

Seems like they may have blown their load with their ps4 Cross gen output and ps5 software seems to be running a little late or something. I dunno.

Definitely not. If they have one or two announcements then they will make them at The Game Awards!

This “heard” bullshit again.

Yeah it took them 18 months to have a showcase then magically another one in less than 6 months…. Makes total sense.

I mean, Colin has actually connections and has been around a hot minute.

His rumors / “heard” are generally far more believable than a solid 70% of the others.

If he said that, there is probably some weight to it. Probably.

It doesn't make sense, but at the same time, it also didn't make sense when they went from having at least one conference a year to most recently having only one in 18 months. 18 months between conferences were not normal in the PS4 days. They used to have multiple shows a year between E3, Gamescom, PGW, TGS, PSX, etc. In 2017, Sony had a E3 show, a TGS show, a PGW show, and a PSX.

The recent one was pointless and backfired. State of play is better option IMO. It also keeps expectation to minimum. 🤷‍♂️

Don’t they always have some sort of announcements at the end of the year? Don’t need an insider leak to know that.

Honestly this sounds more like fanboy cope than anything insider related.

They clearly held back.

Whether it’s because of MS/Bethesda’s show or the Acti-Blizz proceedings, their “less aggressive” exclusive approach looked strategically last minute.

Sony typically shows gameplay from 1st party (not just SM2 of course) so I was shocked.

It makes sense if slim/pro is coming. Wouldn't expect a lot of gameplay though, most likely shorter announcements of what they are cooking, especially after mixed reception of last Showcase (they know fans aren't happy, even if they're in minority it's not wise to completely ignore them).

I could see that if its in September after Spiderman launches. At that point, they have no other announced 1st party exclusive with the exception of Wolverine.

I actually think this does make sense. Why would you have a showcase for 3rd party games but not show off your stable of esteemed studios?? Maybe because it’s too early to show anything or maybe because they do have a whole separate showcase planned.

They want to come out with a BAD SHOWCASE first, so they can be the underdog when MS and Xbox 1-ups them..! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I mean,

We seem to hold ourselves to this notion that Sony would only hold one Showcase based on historical trends, but COVID very clearly upended a lot of things.

That being said, Sony has FF16 in a few weeks and Spider-Man 2 coming in the Fall(I'm guessing September or October).

It's pretty clear that folks(even outside of GAF) weren't particularly fond of this Showcase, but I don't think throwing down bigger guns would hurt either one of those games sales-wise, so I question why they "held back" according to sources.

Only plausible explanation I could think of is they want to "retaliate" for lack of a better term after Microsoft's showcase, but I don't really see it.
