DEATHLOOP Review Thread

343 black spot in Xbox family. Child that brought nothing but shame to family. I just want 343 to go away and take Halo with them. XBOX have other studios and IPs now. Dont need Halo.
Meanwhile, churns out millions of copies every release. It's a good thing you're not an analyst. Halo Infinite might possibly be bigger than most people might expect. The Tech preview was met with quite the praise.

you are projecting hard.
i don't know who these hardcore gamers you talking about.
you know how many hardcore gamers? couple hundreds at best? bethesda games didnt sell 5mil or 10mil but at least 2 or 3mil must have sold. do you know these people?
you are in a bubble and thats it. you have no idea how big is the gaming community is. and I'm pretty sure casuals barely know who make their games let alone who Bethesda is
why do you think they put ''from the creators of X game in trailers?''

if this game wasn't getting good scores no one would give a shit simple as that

Deny the obvious all you want, but it is an indisputable fact that many more gamers who pay attention, as well as the games media itself, as well as a massive number of content creators and streamers all over the web, are paying far more attention to every move Bethesda makes since the acquisition by Microsoft, which can, and does, filter on down to the larger gaming audience.

Sony's timed exclusive deal is one element of what drew attention to Bethesda, but once Microsoft went so far as to purchase Zenimax, Bethesda and all their assets including game studios, the focus on Bethesda kicked into overdrive. You ever wonder why there is a new thread every few weeks on whether their games will be exclusive or not? Would any of that be taking place if not for Microsoft buying Bethesda? The answer is no.

What you seem out to achieve in light of reviews that clearly caught you and many others off guard, but not people like me who could see how good and special this game was looking from the get go, is to downplay the fact that Arkane, now an Xbox First Party studio, has knocked it out of the park with this game, they clearly have a major critical success on their hands, and this doesn't just do great things for Sony and PS5 this year, but it also greatly benefits Microsoft who owns the developer as well as the Deathloop IP going forward. I've said this from the jump, but maybe people just never believed it or fully comprehended what was meant. The success of each of these PS5 timed exclusive Bethesda games, Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, be it commercial, critical, or both, is the best case scenario for Microsoft who wants to see the quality of their acquisition reinforced. Of the two Bethesda games Sony has timed, I had high hopes for this, but I was much more excited for Ghostwire: Tokyo. To think that Deathloop could truly be THIS good, as good as what these reviews seem to be suggesting, as amazing as what the previews and interviews suggested it could be, is the best possible outcome as far as Microsoft and Bethesda are concerned.

And just to add, the same argument you're using now to claim nobody knows or cares who is making these games is the total opposite of what individuals exactly like you use when you argue the fact that it's because it's Insomniac who is making Wolverine for PS5 that further adds to the hype and excitement for what that game can be. Try to be consistent because it stands out when you're not. While many may not know who is making any of these games, there are more than enough who almost certainly do, plenty more who will learn, and Arkane and every other developer under the Xbox banner after the Microsoft acquisition, has only received increased attention from gamers since the Microsoft acquisition.

Why exactly were games like Dishonored and Prey and Wolfenstein thrust back into the spotlight during this year? Because Microsoft acquired Bethesda and that led to all their games being dropped onto Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and cloud for all gamers to try. They then also heavily featured them with fps boost enhancements, which led to videos like this from Digital Foundry.

To claim that exclusive deals or acquisitions don't raise the visibility and number of eyes who are paying attention to what a studio does is disingenuous at best. All that said, I'm extremely happy for Arkane, Bethesda and Microsoft. I love seeing things go well like this, even as a timed PS5 exclusive.

Does this game have haptic feedback and other features? After playing Returnal, I would have still paid $70 for it even if it was on GamePass. To me, the haptics in that game is enough to warrant that by itself.

It's very hard for me to believe reviews these days. I've watched several streamers play and other gameplay videos, and game is a snooze fest, so bland and boring. I really don't get it.

Maybe if you were playing it yourself at your own pace, experiencing the world for yourself in your own way you would feel differently. There is no substitute for playing something yourself.

One of the reviews mentioned that every gun in the game has a unique rumble profile.

I guess I'll see how good it is. So far, Returnal and Astro's Playroom are the only games I've noticed where the haptics are done well enough to be a game changer.

Why? The games that usually require an online connection are games built around multiplayer. The game has a multiplayer component to it that's advertised as part of the game so that why people are double checking. For most other games people won't even ask the question.
An offline mode just used to be common sense.

Pretty much. ACG and GmanLives say it's pretty solid but these crazy high reviews are bullshit.

I dig Arkane, I love Dishonored 1 and PREY was awesome. Deathloop looks so uninspiring and lacks direction.

Maybe the reviewers thought it was so cool and brave that they could finally play as a black dude.

I watched 3 review so far with perfect score and still not feel compelled enough to buy it.

Maybe I will try on Gamepass next year on PC ( or if I can snap XSX).

happy for Arkane, Bethesda, and a Microsoft…but not Sony?

seems like Sony has been making all the right calls when it comes to securing early content deals in the generation (outside of perhaps Destruction Allstars).

deathloop’s success helps validate Microsoft’s expensive purchase, but it’s also a bittersweet pill for fans of Xbox to be denied the highest rated exclusive they’ve made in quite a while on a platform that has struggled with exclusive content

Wow. That's what I get for doubting Arkane for a second. I legit didn't think they could pull off these scores with Deathloop. It looked like discount Dishonored. Those scores are right around where all the Dishonored games reviewed.

Now I'm excited. I'll never doubt you again Arkane.

Except with Redfall. Wtf are you thinking with that game?

Lmao 😂 people really wishing the game was bad and bombed just because they’re an Xbox first party developer that’s sad. We can’t be this low on discord. We should be celebrating all games from all developers that are making good games regardless of platform preferences.

Once the dump truck of PS Deathloop cash rocks up at Phils door, the whole multiplat strategy will come under the microscop.

All Xbox games on PS potentially? Believe.

Looks like someone is upset the game has reviewed really well. A bit pathetic trying to insinuate that the game could in no way be rated that highly just because said person doesn't like it.

Some excellent reviews scores. It's interesting though, as what I'm seeing in videos still really doesn't match the 10's from IGN and GameSpot. Maybe it needs to be played for the magic to be understood more than most other games.

Haven't kept up with this game's release, but guess I'm surprised to see such high praise across the board.

I'll play it whenever I get a PS5 or on the Series X, whichever comes first.

has there been any actual confirmation that deathloop is a 1 year exclusive...i mean if there isnt it could be out in 4 weeks on gamepass
i had this baby on preorder since last year looking foward to playing it on my ps5

I'm shocked at how well its doing in reviews. I didn't get what was being shown and it just looked like a flop in the making to me lol

Looks like what ever Sony saw from that game, they knew it was going to be some fire shit to lock in some timed exclusive deal. Wasn't even on my radar, but will be picking it up now later next year when I get some time. (and snag a PS5 hopefully)

Great reviews, not surprising for a developer with the pedigree of Arkane. Will try this out on GamePass in a year, and buy it if it clicks with me.

Is it though?
You have those who hate it because it's a Playstation exclusive, those who hate it because it's a MS property and those who hate it for it being woke or something. All having not played the game at all.
Yeah this game was bound to be a powderkeg on NeoGaf as it's ammo for both sides of the main console war, as well as offending people who believe that the existence of black people in games is woke in and of itself.

I wonder if MS will continue to work on the game for the Game Pass launch next year.
i think by the time they gamepass it it'll be a version with dlc and probably ray tracing or something. repackage it since it seems to be a critical hit. IDK if itll be a commercial hit on ps5 but its sure to do really well on gamepass.

Could happen at least when it’s a cross gen release, PS5 is too small still but 120(?) million PS4 gamers seeing a 10/10 at IGN and Gamespot a year without many first party releases is going to bring in some cash. Same thing with Psychonauts 2. (It’s also why Sony make PC ports now. It’s all about the money.)
The only thing that sour this release is that it ain’t bringing any people to their own platform. I don’t think they’ve ever even mentioned this game, now one of their most critically acclaimed 1st party games this generation. It’s a bit awkward.

I bought it. It was between Death Stranding: DC, COD: Vanguard, Deathloop. I still haven bought Demon Souls and Returnal. I’ll probably bite on Demon Souls just for the eye candy. Gonna be a while though.

Kena or Little Devil Inside next, then nothing till Horizon Forbidden West.

GUYS!

I have never seen Xbox fanboys so truly excited over a PlayStation console exclusive reviewing well.

This is a truly watershed moment in gaming.

Have we all finally beat the console war?

because is not an exclusive and because is a Ms studio and it will be free on game pass later

Sometimes you don’t get the real magic from
Watching others play.
imagine how it feels watching someone play Death Stranding. Hours of trudging over rocks carrying boxes, and some reviewers called it a ‘generation defining game’

but many who play it say it’s great.

Of course you’ll be able to play all Xbox exclusives on PS5. As soon as they give you a browser on the console and you pay $14.99 for xCloud :)

They couldn’t mention it because they weren’t allowed to.
The Gamepass release will bring people to their subscription service.
MS will be pretty pleased with this.

Oh I don’t know. On one hand it is reviewing well but kn the other we know how trusting reviews got me more than once.
On one hand the game concept is interesting but on the other Sony marketing pushed me away and I didn’t put the money and time for this. We will see.

I’ll sound like a broken record here but I would absolutely play this if it was on Gamepass. I generally don’t like first person shooters but I think the concept is really interesting and a 10 is a 10. I just don’t want to pay full price for a game I might not like. I could try finding it cheap on PC I guess. Or I could wait. Decisions.
