DF: Grand Theft Auto 5 'Next-Gen' Upgrades Analysis: PS5 vs PS4 vs Maxed-Out PC!

Minor details might be better than PC. Rockstar has not confirmed PC will receive the PS5/XSX graphics updates.
Proper TAA is a godsend for image clarity here. I remember having to pile on Txaa+msaa+mlaa to have acceptable image clarity, but even then there was slight shimmer and crawlies. Hope these new features do land on the PC version sooner or later.

That being said, GTA 5 PC version launched in 2015? If Rockstar asks 10 bucks for TAA, a little better motion blur and RT shadows..I don't think it make sense value wise, even at 10 bucks. I do expect far more meaty upgrades from a new "version" launching after six years from the original...

It's crazy how bad the draw distance and AF is still though, it prevents it from being the ultimate version. Hopefully Rockstar patch the animation fixes and ray tracing into the PC version (which launched in 2015), or even better do what they did with RDR2 and add things like DLSS/Vulkan/etc.

Yeah, in general its weird.

The Series S should *NOT* be as big as Series X version either. It should be smaller in size.

R* don't care.

I agree Series S game size should be optimized to match it's capabilities, but every developer so far has released X|S titles with the same install size. This isn't unique to Rockstar.

They went with the more popular console

I'm not sure this is accurate. I think they base it off of the best console performance. I remember a video where they compared Series X performance to PC for a specific title because Series X outperformed PS5. Just can't remember the title at the moment.

ElAnalistaDeBits is the one who used the Xbox One version for the loading time comparison. He edited it out of his comparison video after people called him out on lying about that, but people in this thread still are posting the GIF of comparing the PS5 version to the Xbox One version to trying to prove the XSX version has 1 minute long loading times, when it doesn't.
Yet the other video posted shows almost the exact same time. Go figure huh. Obviously Adamagenda didn't post a shot of that and you clearly didn't watch it, so take your conspiracy theory and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

Didn't realize load time comparisons now involved selective unskipable videos on one side.

thought we only cared about actual load time speeds from menu to game etc.

I guess the goal posts shift as needed.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Since we're still talking about this, lol..

This is from a very first boot up on PS5:

GTA V is just one of the few 3rd party games that consistently does skip the logos after first boot up. Most first party PS5 games do it. Again, its hit or miss. I wanna say this is the first game that does it the best so far on PS5.

Testing this right now...it does it faster than both GT7 and Forbidden West. Just tested Miles Morales, faster than that too. Uncharted Legacy of Thieves skips logos consistently. So far it seems to do it best with non cross gen games.

Or its hit or miss.

I never played RE Village so I cant comment on that, I just remember that coming up in a DF analysis.

According to that video, loading changed since the Village demo on PS5. It used to have loading screens, or more loading screens, now it doesn't.

Again, this was known before the console launched, Hell, there is a thread on here about it:

I just posted direct captures from both versions. The load times are identical.

I know that people are more into comparing the intro loading speeds, but this video below is what I cared about more(character switching speeds):

This is what mattered to me more, because this is what you spend more time waiting on than the intro loading, anytime you had to switch characters. It seems like they did improve it and it's way faster(thank goodness). Also I have read that there is a glitch where it's really slow once you first unlock Michael but it works like the above video after. Just a heads up for buyers.

They’ve done the work so Is this coming to pc too? Really needs it.

It would be weird if big visual upgrades like RT, proper TAA and motion blur remain console exclusive.

But the problem is how and how much will R* charge for it lol.

What I don't get is the lack of texture upgrades, I don't know why Rockstar doesn't just pay these guys and call it a day, look how much better the quality is here:

R* don't care.

The Xbox version is normally one file, so it includes both versions, you can take the storage card and just interchange it between a Series X and S and play.
Only a select few games offer the option for reducing the Series S version I've found.

Why not compare maxed-out PC to XSX version for a change?
Simple
PC vs PS5 vs Xbox Series = 1 video

However, PC vs PS5 = 1 video
PS5 vs XSX = 1 video
Xbox Series S vs Xbox Series X = 1 video.

Not too hard to work out. Plus we know the PS fanboys are far more vocal than xbox ones are so DF most likely didn't want to put up with screaming fanboys demanding to know why they put the Xbox video up first, and that's not fair because Sony has the marketing rights to GTA.

How is this not console warring? I dont get the rules on this site, I've seen people cop a warning for a lot less than this crap. Inconsistent rules mean there may as well not be any.
The rules are not for what people say, they are more about how people react to what people say. Its very inconsistent.

WTF is that bullshit. Jesus Christ. It has been reported via twitter by the same John, some Xbox fanboy menaced and followed him at home if I'm not wrong when ps5 seemed to win more face off at the beginning of the generation; how can be considered more vocal the playstation fanboys reaction in this channel? You should reflect more before to post such absurd claim.

It’s not weird , that old engines run faster, as they are build with old principles so it’s not weird with faster clocks of the Ps5 . It’s like MS programmers pointed out , in series consoles the gpu is undertasked in most games from then and now , less parallel programmer or gpu accelerated workloads . That’s just how engines where build . New engines are more about gpu accelerated and parallel tasks. This game probably is a 1 core CPU hog ..

I have this version for Series X, didn’t find any really annoying things yet . But it’s a old ass game .. so I don’t really care .

It was probably like that in PS4 version but this is a nice touch, fun way to use controller features:

Overall, dual sense is nicely used and gfx/performance seems ok.
It was the same but the led was facing front and made little sense, was hard to see unless you play in dark room and see the reflected light from the TV.
Now it makes sense bc you can actually see those lights pretty easily.

If you're okay with playing at low resolution to get RT effects at 60 FPS and don't care about draw distance etc. then it's a good option.

On PC you can play it with mods like this:

...but that's not a fair comparison. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
The production value in that vid is pretty good.

Wait Open Surprise is treated like a reputable source now? The guy who posted this shameless lie in his Elden Ring XSX vs PS5 comparison video?

"Better graphics and higher resolution" Right, perfect. All after VGtech, NXgamer and DF stated/demonstrated the contrary... Have some standarts people.
In a game with a variable resolution, one frame could be higher on one and lower on another, and the results totally fliiped somewhere else in the game.

The frame he pixel counted may well have favoured the XsX, whereas if he had selected another shot to pixel count it may well have favoured the PS5. NX, VG and DF should add the disclaimer on every video that they have not pixel counted every frame so their results are an approximation at best based on limited source material.

Well when someone is trying to discredit a video with a conspiracy theory, omitting confirmation it's actually legit does prove you have something you want to say.

And I guess you think while the animation and screens are being show the game isnt loading in the bacgkound either?

The goal posts remain, it's you trying to move them. We all have eyes, we can all see from dashboard to game is quicker on ps5 like the original video showed.

The irony is it doesn't really matter as Series X loads fractionally quicker in most other metrics, I imagine down to greater memory bandwidth, but the omission of the first one because the guy thinks its cheating and you agree is laughable to be honest.

Manabyte was trying to spin the narrative it's wasn't even the Series x version. This is demonstrated false by the video you posted.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
So a OS feature that skips logos is cheating now because Xbox don't do it.🙄
I mean the actual load screen time is the the same right?
So what's the problem?
If someone is doing a comparison for how long it takes for the player to be actually playing from booting the game.
That fair.
Logos are included in that, and the fact the PS5 skips them is a plus to the player.
So it's a valid comparison.
I don't know, I think people are being silly 😂

This.

Having skippable logos is pretty damn great. I wish that the XsX had the feature.
Bottom line, if being able to skip the logo makes booting the game faster on the PS5 then iti s what it is. No goal posts being moved, just a simple fact.

What about all other loads: Do we have comparisons?

Let's include Quick Resume as well then. OS feature after all.

I wonder which Gaffer that is :D

Well when someone is trying to discredit a video with a conspiracy theory, omitting confirmation it's actually legit does prove you have something you want to say.

And I guess you think while the animation and screens are being show the game isnt loading in the bacgkound either?

In this case ? probably not, the logos still all appear on the first time you boot the game, and if you add the 30~ or so seconds they would add, it's almost identical to what the Xbox load times are + videos.

It's pretty easy to see there won't be a difference in that scenario.

The goal posts remain, it's you trying to move them. We all have eyes, we can all see from dashboard to game is quicker on ps5 like the original video showed.

I specifically mentioned it skips developer logos in that post, but I didn't realize counting video times would be such a hot button issue lol.

It's not a sheer load time comparison when a pre-canned video is running.

I also didn't include a picture of the super quick 8~ second Quick Resume in that post but I guess you don't have an issue with that ? It is a feature after all.

What about all other loads: Do we have comparisons?

Yes, I posted on page 2, here's the video.

Outside of the instance where Xbox has to run 30~ seconds of videos, every other area like loading the game, loading from death etc is faster on SX.

Let's include Quick Resume as well then. OS feature after all.

Sure.

If we include Quick Resume, you can go from Xbox dash to in-game exactly where you left it in 8~ seconds max.

Which pretty much beats all metrics on any device, including PC with NvME SSDs.

I wonder about this framerate comparison from banned source, can't wait for other teams to show us their results.

But if this is true it shows that Xbox CPU could be underperforming for some reason and this is not the only game that shows this.

In other words: Quick Resume is the best next-gen feature.

Pretty much. If you want the version that goes from a dash to in-game fastest, it's the Series S|X version with Quick Resume.

People still posting ElAnalistaDeBits and people here giving it thumbs up reactions.

It's probably doing gangbusters on twitter and such.

It will depend from what's happening in the scene at that moment, explosions tend to be more ROP and bandwidth bound for example. It can be the sum of multiples things across the game including of course the CPU-I/O.

Indeed it is. In Cyberpunk for example it works amazingly well.

Oh yeah, it's been improved considerably since launch.

I don't think I've seen any recent game come out that doesn't support it at launch now, unlike the launch window where WD Legion, Yakuza LaD etc didn't support it at launch.

Playing Tunic with Quick Resume and it's from dashboard to in-game exactly where I left it in 1~2 seconds flat.

It just looks like more cars and smoke effects in one scene than the other. It's the GPU. The XSX framerate drops because it seems to struggle more with alpha effects like grass and smoke. The PS5 is better at that due to fillrate or perhaps even resolution. Nothing to do with CPU I would imagine.

Let us know when a 500$ PC can play something even fucking close to PS5

I mean, there's a reason for that. it's not by coincidence that I can play this at 165hz on a PC and people here are becoming cross-eyed in the effort to make up some minor detail that would ALLEGEDLY "look better on PS5".
Like... Like... Oh, right, per-object motion blur, a setting that everyone on PC disables in most games because it looks like smeared shit and degrades image quality in an effort to compensate for lower framerate.

oh and by the way

I had a pc with rtx 3080... come at me and I will skin you .... troll
Suuuure.

Maybe. but we still have to wait for VGT/NXG/DF to confirm it.

My theory is that DXR as seen on PC is super CPU heavy, i doubt much is different in Xbox implementation but PS Api for RT could be much different in this aspect. But this would only explain differences when RT is enabled
