Diablo 2 Resurrected Officially Revealed

sircaw

Just a lil finicky
Not played diablo 2 for a while, but are runs different in color when they drop, as in being able to distinguish them from the white text.

I saw someone on a stream and the rune text was orange, i guess that is a mod?

I think it would be a nice simple change if they did this..

I got a little ARPG itch because of this announcement, and wouldn't mind trying something new in the genre.

How is Grim Dawn? For reference, I liked Diablo II and Titan Quest, but got bored pretty quickly with Path of Exile, which seemed too convoluted and MMOey for my tastes.

I guess we're in for months' worth of passive aggressive posts form the D3 kids.

Eh, it's not that, for all of us. Some of us have played it off and on since release so would love some nice changes to modernize the title. Not all of us can play D2 for 50k hours like Mr. Llama without getting bored. I'm envious of the people who haven't played it though! One of my favorite games ever. For me, without some changes for the better, I'll buy and play it for 50 hours instead of hundreds. Graphics alone can't carry a dated ARPG. I found this out recently with Demon's Souls and its from 2009, not 1999.

Grim Dawn is excellent. Slow start, like most games from the genre, but the gear and skill options are insane. Lots of really challenging content in various forms, and a beefy campaign. Even playable on a controller...but certain builds really want that mouse precision.

Yeah I'm old enough to actually have played Diablo 1 back on windows 95, carry on. :)

Grim Dawn is a very good title but its structure might be off putting for some given that its entirely oriented around replaying the campaign a bunch of times in order to have all the "passive skills" points possible. However it does feature a faction system which is kinda game changing in its own right (gives access to specifics enhancements when you fully max a faction, and also makes nemesis bosses pop all around the map), hidden bosses, superbosses / megabosses and rogue like dungeons. On top of that theres a crucible dlc and an endless dungeon kinda thing

Also has dual class available and an enormous amount of gear sets / uniques etc. If you're looking at a game as a complete package, Grim Dawn will scratch that it for quite some time IF you like the systems enough to fully go deep. A full run of the campaign also is very fun for the price asked but thats not where the meat of the game is at

Sounds great! Glad to read it is challenging, because man, Diablo III was fun but also mind-numbingly easy sometimes.

I'll check GD as soon as I can, thanks!

Sygma Sygma thanks man! Sounds awesome, specially the factions stuff and all that sidecontent. Definetly going to grab this.

I've contacted the authorities to verify your claim of Windows 95ery, but until then: I've got my eye on you, mister.

You can play a Cthulu hunting priest in a highwayman outfit with dual pistols that fire explosive ammunition. I can't really sell it more than that.

Really looking forward to playing this on my big ass TV. I know they mentioned Cross Progression, I'm assuming that's being able to play on console and on PC and keeping your progress.

However, is there cross play between consoles and PC players? I have friends on other platforms that I would love to play with.

I couldn't find any word on that, but there are games that do it. Maybe the D2 network code is a bit too old for that? It would be cool though.

Really not excited, looks dated on all ends outside of the graphics. I get that nostalgia is a huge thing tho
D2 has a great mix of rich systems, accessibility and fun online that I don't think any other ARPG has matched. I understand if some people think D3 is fun to play, but it has terrible itemization and utterly boring character building. PoE has a ton of systems complexity and theory crafting, but it's also a bigger time sink and has the problem that you can just clear the entire screen instantly so it's not as engaging to actually play, it's more of a pure skinner box.

Just so we're clear, I'm strictly talking about the gameplay / animations and all of that

Very happy for those who'll discover D2, to me its a game belonging to the last decade. Many looters nowadays do offer much more

Diablo II Resurrected Will Let You Import Original Diablo II Save Files

In an interview with IGN Middle East, Matthew Cederquist, Game Producer for Diablo II: Resurrected, confirmed that players can import their legacy Diablo II save files into the remaster and continue on with their game.

“Yes! Keep your old save files,” said Cederquist, when asked about a save file importing feature.
“Back when we were working on [the remaster], we wondered if the old save files would work, so we kind of shoved it in, and it worked! So yes, your local singleplayer save files will carry over.”

I still love that this is happening, and it's so cool to see that it's being done by passionate fans of the original game. Really looking forward to diving into this. Especially as someone that's always loved Diablo, but just couldn't get into the gameplay when I was younger. All about it now.

Alright guys I am tempted to just buy OG DII right now. I bought the game on release 21 years ago (Jesus) but those discs are long gone and I dont' even have a disc drive on my PC anymore, lol.

Should I wait?

I'm a Diablo 3 boy, played it to death and loved my time with it. Its not amazing in terms of challenge or tactics but I liked the progression of gear and the builds and such, but tell me this Diablo 2 fans:

Does it speed up as you go on or is that how the game is TTK wise even in the endgame? Whenever I see videos of D2 its always much slower than D3 is with high level gear, more single target attacks and less "exploding 10 mobs every second". I'm guessing its NOT like that, and maybe thats why people prefer it over 3 (among other reasons ofc).

I'm not saying whether one is better than the other, I'm just wondering. I'm more than willing to give D2:R a go even if its totally different to D3, in fact I would prefer that because its more variety.

If TTK IS similar to D3 later on can someone link me a video of that sort of thing? I had a look myself but not really sure what to search for as I don't know the game at all.

edit - I had a look at general endgame builds and it does seem similar to D3, much faster than what I'd seen before, not quite as stupidly fast as Barb WW builds in D3 but I think thats a good thing, those get boring a bit fast.

The gameplay video in the OP has made me even more excited for it, didn't see that when it was announced. The contrast and the black level of the video is so amazing, I love the way it looks.

Had so many problems with shitty presentations recently, we shouldn't even have to think about whether the game is sending out proper black levels/gamma, so many games just do it right without needing any calibration and I want to see more of that when possible.

Was playing Abzu again recently and that game just nails it, its black when it needs to be, its foggy and grey when it needs to be and nothing looks weird so you can just enjoy the game. Same with The Pathless on PS5 actually, plus the HDR is fucking amazing, the use of so many similar shades of colour within one scene/frame is so nice.

I wonder if D2:R will support HDR 🤔 It looks amazebeans in that SDR video anyway so I won't care if it doesn't but it would be cool to see what its like, if they ruin that beautiful black level I'll just use the SDR mode though.

PvP is the Endgame in Diablo 2.

The game is basically just farming to gear up your character and then join PVP games and have fun.

People that goes for Ladder run are the ones that focus in PvM, but then you don't need high end gear for that.
