Epic has filed a trademark for the ‘Epic Games Megaverse’

Filed at the end of 2021, the trademark covers a wide range of goods and services and is presumably an umbrella term for Epic’s vision for the metaverse.

While there’s no universally accepted definition, the metaverse is a network of 3D virtual spaces where users can socialise, play, and work, and some envision it as a successor to the mobile internet.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles-based Spire Animation Studios announced that Epic had invested in the company. The pair are collaborating to integrate Unreal Engine into Spire’s feature animation pipeline to build metaverse experiences.

“The talented team at Spire has decades of experience and their work has captivated audiences around the world with heartfelt storytelling and inspiring characters,” said Epic CTO Kim Libreri.

“They are at the cutting edge of animation and together we will push the state of the art in metaverse entertainment.”

I feel like this metaverse shit is just Epic rebranding its previous attempt at becoming the "Facebook of gaming".
Levering Unreal Engine as an important part of this new Eco-system, not just the surrounding systems. Expecting Unity to make a Metaverse push soon (if they haven't already).

This metaverse thing is insane.

Is this strictly western thing lead by Facebook or are other big companies in other countries getting in on this?

Idk the fact that people on forums hate the metaverse and are predicting it’s failure make me believe it’s going to be a humongous success.

Maybe, maybe not.

As many of you know, I try not to force my personal views in regards to business. I personally don't really use any of this shit, don't care for it, don't plan on using it either, but I also don't play Fortnite or PUBG or use Tik Tok or anything like that, but I also never use that to gauge pass or fail or anything of the sort.

Sure, this could be a flop and fad, it could also be the next internet for tweens and turn into a massive thing for adults too. Its hard to tell some times, but if I see Epic, Facebook, MS all spending massive money in a area, I need to pay attention to that too businesswise. They might really be on to something if those applications fit, work, become massive genres etc. Look at Minecraft, imagine some new game like that in such a world, we can see it move 100 million or more over night. Crazy shit like this move fast.

but to your point, they can be a huge fail too. Wii fad didn't last, Wii U flopped right after and that wave was done, 3D tvs with games was a fail, 3D in general was a flop lol, that AR crap that went on for a while and many more. So I do get where you are coming from, but I'd recommend getting in on the ground floor. It could be worth you time based on what industry you work in or invest in etc.

I myself admit I fell victim to this type of thinking. I own a few Etsy stores as an artist, was making ok money and ignored Pinterest. My sister keep telling me about it for years mind you, so I start marketing on other platforms outside of Instagram and Facebook annnnnnnd I was fucking wrong, Pinterest is where the majority of my sales came from, its now like 90% where I market cause that now. I wish I listened, I wish i kept that open mind and tried it out and I wish I was on the ground floor when so many were posting and marketing on there.

If you see a new platform come out and you run a business, even if its just a little bit of money, market on there, its why I was even telling people to try out that whole Onlyfans game thing lol

Sorry for the baby forest lol

TLDR. Sure it sounds stupid, but shit so did Twitch to me back then. "Oh play a game online and people just watch you? huh?" yet look at it today. Look at Tik Tok today, if you get in early and establish something, you can reap huge rewards and maybe that is what Epic, Facebook and MS are trying to do.

It's great to see that all large companies are working hard to integrate themselves into something that even the corporation working on has no idea what it's going to be like.
We know what it is going to be like, what Meta and Microsoft call "metaverse" is VRChat without the degeneracy but with tools for enterprises.
If you want to look what the metaverse is, search on Youtube after these

Meta/Facebook:
  • Infinite Office
  • Horizon Workrooms
Microsoft

Microsoft Metaverse :

A live demo of Dynamics 365 Remote Assist which IMO is much more impressive than the metaverse:
This is the POV of a guy calling someone wearing an hololens, he sees what the hololens wearer sees and adds stuff into the wearer vision.
