Of all the platforms that allowed you to play on the go, Switch is the hardest to carry. I definitely wouldn't say that easiness to carry was a strength
Its absolutely is. That thing is so easy to carry, that your only worry is for it to slip from your hand.

Ipad on other hand is like a truck compared to switch. That thing is freakish weapon.

It's just a comment on pokemon being infallible in terms of commercial success. I don't think that's a con really, people just really like the games/ip.

I personally stopped playing around the 3ds era of pokemon games.

It is the only only platform that's currently alive. I would say that's probably it's main selling point right now in regard to how easy it is to carry.

Vita, PSP and 3DS were smaller than the Switch bUt they didn't sell as well. In fact Japan prefers the larger, more expensive Switch to the smaller, cheaper one.

Size isn't that important.

Right, it's software that's the main selling point not the size.

We have like 20 years of evidence to support things you are calling ""sus."

And what does that have to do with the new consoles? How would you know if all console sales in those past twenty years, were due to demand, or supply? What was the weight of supply to demand as a factor in those sales? What were the price drops? When did they happen? Were the price drops due to maintaining demand or stirring up more demand on a product with weaker demand?

Literally impossible to try boiling this stuff down to a single thing and call it a day. That's pretty reductive.
Tbf though while xbox demand ww is far lower then ps5

Is it? Or are we just talking about a specific Xbox? Demand for the X seems pretty high to me, somewhere around PS5's. I'm not saying it's exactly the same, but they're within a similar sphere of demand. I do think some of PS5's is simply bolstered by online trending/fads sort of stuff, and a lot of the rest from (deservedly) built-in rapport built from previous PlayStation systems, if not necessarily the PS5 itself.

I'd still guess the majority of xboxs bought in Japan are by scalpers and sold in the rest of Asia where there's no stock.

You can argue that, but do you have any hard numbers you can point to in order to back up your belief? I think by now if what you said were the case, Microsoft would simply readjust distribution of systems to the markets where they're being scalped. They'd kind of want to actually deal with the scalpers, after all, rather than help them by dumping systems in a territory if they are mostly be scalped by that territory.

Why does no one want to give Xbox some credit here, this is a big turn around from what the Xbox one did there

C'mon, you already know why.

That said, yeah they have definitely turned things around vs. last gen (where they basically gave up on regions like Japan almost from the get-go, remember it was a "2nd-Tier" area for release), but they still have to do more to catch up to, let alone surpass, Xbox 360's numbers there (1.6 million LTD).

Supposing they can't reach that through hardware sales alone, they'll need to try pushing GamePass in that region to make up for such, which is probably their main strategy.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
West and Japan have different peak end of year sales.

Japan around Christmas is the peak.
West around the Black Friday is the peak.

It is smart to focus in supply in the west around BF and after focus in supply Japan near Christmas.
Ok, but to this extent?

It's become absolutely ridiculous.

If what Captain Toad is saying is true then they either know that the attached rate for digital game sales isn't enough to over come the loss generated by selling a DE sku and/or they are prioritising short term margin over long term ones.
They also likely are eating a decent loss on the DE so don’t really want to sell it. I said it since day 1, the DE is just so they can advertise “from $399” and then bait and switch to $499.

Significantly more people are all digital now than buy physical so it wouldn’t surprise me if the DE outsold the disc version if both were available in equal quantities. I know it’s the one I’d buy.

I keep hearing this, but does the size of the console really matter?

Yes, absolutely. People used that 20 years ago claiming the OG Xbox was too big for small Japanese apartments. The PS5 is even bigger. As people have said, it's one reason why the Switch is on fire there. Even if you don't use it as a portable you can use the kickstand at home without the need of a big TV.

For you guys who keep crying supply supply, explain the software lol.
Nintendo is dominating and is mostly physical. Home consoles are declining in Japan. Software still charts for big releases. Now are you saying that if there was more PS5 supply in Japan it wouldn't have sold out? Because that's a more interesting thing to cry about.

FF XVI is ps5 exclusive aka no ps4. What was the first week sales of ff7r and ff XV like?

Could be a bit of a situation just for Japan.

Ff7r was 700k first week

Fortunately for them, they could change the situation like what Capcom did with RE Village by introducing PS4 version of FF16. Graphically it doesn't look like anything couldn't be done on PS4.

I still feel people overplay it's importance. The issues for PS5 in Japan go beyond its size and making a smaller or more portable version wouldn't improve things that much.
