Famitsu has published its estimated physical game software and hardware sales data for Japan for the week of June 6, 2022 to June 12, 2022.

The Switch version of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles was the highest selling new release last week, opening at 90,885 retail copies sold, which is particularly strong performance for a late port. It originally launched back in October 2021 to 94,849 units sold on PlayStation 4 and 20,187 units sold on PlayStation 5.

Mario Strikers: Battle League was the second highest selling new release, moving 32,173 units.

On the hardware side, the Switch family sold 58,436 units, the PlayStation 5 family sold 12,440 units, the Xbox Series family sold 6,242 units, and the PlayStation 4 family sold 78 units. Next-generation consoles continue to face stock issues.

Wow @ Demon Slayer! That's pretty impressive for a nearly 8 month old port. Can't wait to see what a Persona game could do on Switch....oh wait.

Got a bit bored and also not sure where to put this.

Scrape the old month steam hw survey results from December 2020 to the previous month .

Japanese was the fast growing language in relative terms within the steam userbase excluding Vietnamese. If I included may 2022, it would be even more so.

It overtook the French language setting. Assuming that only users in Japan are setting their computers and browsers to be in JP locale. Can probably check that from data in advertising but I think it's pretty fair for JP and it being a Saturday.

Think this is the users who have set the steam interface to Japanese/whatever language.

Nintendo DS still lives
It kind of does, the weird experimental/quirky games that used to be released for the DS now have started coming out on switch. In fact the switch gets a crazy amount of japanese 3rd party support just like the DS did which is why even indie games sell great numbers because with such a huge install base even a niche indie game can rake in respectable numbers. Something next gen fails to do over there.

Aniplex doesn't own the IP. Shueisha owns it. Aniplex is the licensee who makes the anime. The manga and the characters are 100% owned by Shueisha.

It's like saying Illumination Animation Studios owns Mario because Nintendo licensed them to make the movie.
Again, Sony owns the company that published the game. Why are you so defensive over a joke?

Do you see where it's saying Nintendo, Microsfot, SIE, Aniplex, etc, there on the table for every game? Exactly.

The funny thing is that you are the one who brought up Sony owning any IP or anything, I just pointed to them making a game for the Switch.

A guy even quoted you thinking Sony owned the Demon Slayer IP because an animation studio owned by Sony Music Japan was licensed to produce the anime. It's a Shueisha (Shonen Jump) IP.

And SEGA publishes the game everywhere except Japan.

Then quote him not me if you want to correct anyone.

Reading the post here all I see is a mention to IPs Sony has access to, so you'd be wrong again, since Sony does have access to the Demon Slayer IP after all they publish and distribute the anime and the movies all over the world, saying they don't have access to it would be absurd.

Yes, they have the license to produce the anime. They do not own the IP or characters in any way. Shueisha does.

Yes they have access to the anime but they have to re license it for a game. Each media is treated separate since they are not the original creator or Ip holder of the Manga and character's itself.

Stock has improved, problem is Japan is not first on the list.

Sony are making bank from mtx and digital sales and countries like the uk, usa and other wester countries are contributing to alot of that, and that's where stock is going towards.

I would hope they have a shit ton of stock going towards Japan for the ff16 and ff7 rebirth launches.
