Is there any recent data on how many people in Japan actually use their Switch on the go? When I went there I was kind of surprised I didn't see a single person playing on one. It was all phones and older handhelds. I actually saw more people on WonderSwans than Switches.

That was back in 2018, so not too long after the Switch's release, but I think it had already outsold the Vita at that point and I spotted quite a few of those, so it can't all be down to the number of units sold.
No Japan-specific data unfortunately. Looking at software and Switch Lite sales, its probably similar to the rest of the world where some only play it in console mode, some only play it handheld mode, and most play it in both.

The Switch Lite being a handheld and the Switch and Switch OLED being hybrids is the most accurate way to look at it.
Call it what you like but the Switch is a handheld device. It's like a tablet that you attach pads to. If it was a "bona fida home console" it wouldn't require the dock. Our concerned friend Nautilus hasn't provided anything of value since his last post......

The dock and detachable controllers are all part of the product. As is the fact that Switch games are programme with both docked and undocked modes.

Its fundamentally different from any handheld or console and that's why it's a hybrid.

It's been a quiet time for sales in the run up to Golden Week. But starting in May we have a run of significant releases all the way though Spring and Summer.

Not too much for Autumn and Winter yet (there are some games but not a lot), yet a Nintendo Direct and PlayStation Showcase in the next two months will probably change that.

Great to see this, I guess it's the general Zelda/ Mario hype going on at the moment along with Zelda themed OLED.
Switch selling triple it's normal baseline, if this repeats worldwide then we're talking about some huge numbers. The first time Switch has outsold PS5 since January in Spain.

PSVR2, a 600€ product that you already need a 550€ console to use, is selling half of both Series S and X models...a console you can buy for less than 300€.

TLOU2 always showing up in many european charts as well. Incredible tbh.

The effect in Spain will be bigger than elsewhere due to the Communion holidays. But I'm still expecting a big increase in Switch hardware worldwide.

For some reason TLOU2 is particularly popular in Spain, moreso than GOW which is unusual.
