Fitness |OT8| Dad Bods, Bulge Swelfies, and Wait...Do you even lift bro?

Motivation pretty much at an all time low today. This nightmare with my house purchase (going to fall through today) has just wrecked me. I just about survived a really hard turbo trainer session yesterday... but I fear I gave pretty much spent all the mental strength I had left on it.

Is deadlift day, and after finding that my form was completely screwed up last week (I changed some things after watching a video) I'm really dreading that too.

Sorry to hear that psycho. Home buying/selling can be a crappy experience at times. So many things can go wrong and often people just suck.

As far as deadlifts, welcome to the club. My form is pretty good at lower weight, but as soon as I jump to working weight it's fuck all.

Keep your head up man. You should try to focus on the positive. We don't call you psycho the cardio monster for nothing. If you need a break today, take a break!

Yeah damn...sorry psycho.

Going through the house thing as well and its draining. Hang in there brother.

Unrelated, I'd be down for a new banner and some before / after shots in the OT. Sean, I know you wanted us to stay out of it but progress is motivating. We could keep the photos small, but I think it's a good idea. Thoughts guys?

Transformations would be sweet and we wouldn't call out who it was if they didn't want to. Bish and Sean both come to mind. FE too from his old pic to now. Plenty of others I'm sure. I think it's motivating for people to see member transformations and not just a model pic.

Anyone AGAINST putting transformation pics (before and after) in the next OT? We could limit the size (no more than 400 x 400 for both pics combined), and anyone who wants to throw one in can.

Deadlifts destroy me too :/. When I do them perfectly though, I feel way better even if I can only use "submaximal" weights.

Also, huge squat day for me yesterday. Hit 137kg (301 freedom units) for 8 reps. Squat has always been a big weakness of mine and I could die a happy man if I could squat 4 plates this year.

Do any of you use apps? I just have a notepad for my different days, once I can do 3x7 comfortablebly I tend to increase the weights.

i've just started using the stronglifts app, it's decent because it has a timer on there, and i have noticed i've not been resting long enough between each set

For a lifting log I use FitNotes on Android, but it seems you might be asking about programming. I do my own DUP style programming and used to do my own conjugate method programming. There are some easy to follow programs in the OP that there are probably apps for too to give you what numbers you should be using.

I use excel, but I workout 50 feet from my office. I always found pen and paper to be great too as I could take notes ("got 295, but form was slightly off...deload") while you lift

Grrr...last three days weight:

180.6
180.4
180.6

Eating way below maintenance, a little cardio each day (just walking 30 mins) + workouts 2 of those days. Body being a PITA.

First off, if you're lifting heavy and only walking 30 minutes for cardio, a portion of your weight loss over time might be masked by muscle gain.

Secondly, don't put TOO much stock in 3 days...water retention, time of day, etc can alter your results.

Maybe throw sprints or HIIT in there 2-3 times per week to target fat loss.

Yea what bum said. You need to view weight on week averages rather than day by day. The way you're looking at it is going to drive you nuts...

Well, I mean I am down 12lbs from the start of the year and just trying to get to 170. I'm at the point where abs are starting to show and I'm trying to get rid of that lower back fat that won't go away (I am 43 btw). I'll keep at it but it's frustrating because I'll make a bit of progress then get stuck for like 2-3 weeks at the same weight.

Well that's it, six months of fucking around trying to sort the house purchase, for nothing.

Just to add to the fun, the alarm I bought to protect the stuff in my garage just arrived. Broken. Think I might go out and kick some kittens or something.

:(

My Dearest Cooter,

It was wreckless and disrespectful to post a progress photo without proper fitting attire. With that said, I've done what I can to make things right. I hope our broship can still be salvaged.

Sincerely,
Mich<3l

Shit's getting weird. We need that new OT

The link Mike posted will make you smile, for sure.

But seriously, I'm sorry. This is going to sound stupid but about a week ago I was pissed because the neighborhood comps were well below what I wanted them to be (selling our house). My wife reminded me that we can afford a nice house, and many others can't. It just helped to put it in perspective. I know it sucks but you'll find a place soon.

I could post a transformation pic, but I don't look that different because my waist won't let me be great. I'll see if I can find any that show change.

edit: here are some ones from the weightloss thread:

April 2016 (please ignore the dumb face I made):

I'll post better ones once I defeat my gut once and for all.

I'm sorry to hear this dude :(

lighting and pump, friend

I actually hate how flat and "narrow" my arms look in a shirt.
You are a big dude and your arms look fine. We are the same height, I weigh 225 right now before my cut so I'm going to wind up slim compared to you.

You are right about where I'd like to be (i need a lot more work ha) size/composition so don't fret. You look great.

Forget the gut for a second...you've made very obvious size gains. Really awesome work.

A lot has changed since I posted that first pic back on Christmas. Haven't smoked in like 2 months. Diet is still shit and still too many energy drinks though. My split is centered around Powerlifting, which December 21st is what I consider my first day training for it. All that week I was testing things out with free weight Barbell Squats, Bench Press, and Deadlifting for the first time on Christmas Day.

Bench: 45 -> 155 lbs
Back Squat: 120 -> 235 lbs
Dead lift: 150 -> 300 lbs

Stuff added later:
Front Squat: 45 -> 130 lbs (for 3)
OHP: 30 -> 105 lbs

all while only gaining 2 lbs.

No advice, just wanted to say I'm sorry about your situation. Home buying is a draining process. I hope it ultimately ends well for you.

Yeah besides your arms blowing up I feel like I see a lot more definition in your shoulders/upper chest.

Thanks! Hoping to tame the gut by the end of this summer. It's the last thing preventing me from going shirtless at the beach. I haven't swam in over a decade due to body image issues (I Kow nobody would care, but I'm too self-conscious) so it'll be fun to rejoin society.

Oh and on that job question upthread, I work in advertising.

Cheers for all the thoughts on the house move suckage. If I'm honest I just wanted to go down the pub or something when I found out but I pursuaded myself into the garage, and on the bright side, my deadlift wasn't as screwed as last week (though it's still going to be a while before I've got it back again).

One major negative. Cortisol be stealing my gains bruh.

one good thing is that now you can buy an acre of land and just build yourself a gym with a bed room attached to it.
