Game Informer Cover Reveal - God of War: Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarök is set to conclude the Norse era of the series, a saga that's seen Kratos atone for his troubling past by becoming a more conscientious god and (mildly) affectionate father. In the upcoming sequel, Kratos and Atreus must stave off a preordained catastrophe, calling on old and new friends to succeed against Asgard and, hopefully, prevent all-out war.

I spoke with God of War veteran and newly appointed director Eric Williams as well as some lead UX, combat, and level designers about their experience crafting the long-awaited sequel and the most significant changes coming to the action and exploration loops. Moreover, you'll learn about Kratos' tools/toys, a never-before-seen dwarven realm that feels lived in, the unprecedented number of accessibility features available at launch, and some quality-of-life updates, including new navigation mechanics.

Of course, that's not all. We've got other God of War content for your perusal, including a ranking of our five favorite bosses from the franchise. Additionally, Alex Van Aken attended Evo, favorably comparing the storied event to the Olympics. Marcus Stewart got hands-on time with the next entry in the most prominent fighting franchise of all time, Street Fighter 6. There are even a few fantastic freelance pieces – one, for instance, documents the meticulous creation of a Cuphead level. And if you're wondering what big games are on the horizon, we've got you covered with preview pages dedicated to Square Enix's role-playing farming sim, Harvestella, Game Freak's Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and so much more.

This issue's cover art has been in the works for some time, and its level of detail is a testament to that. Kratos and Atreus face armored warriors, reptilian monsters scurry into the arena from every direction, the Huldra brothers ready their weapons from high ground, and a dragon soars through the cloudy sky. All the while, fire beams violently collide with a far-off mountain range. Both the circulated magazine and Game Informer Gold edition feature the father and son fighting a legion of deific enemies. Limited to a numbered print run per issue, this premium version of Game Informer isn't available for sale. To learn about places where you might be able to get a copy, check out our official Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. It was my most anticipated game by far, and yet i forgot it exists, yup that's how much the marketing for the game is terrible and weird.
Every post I see of yours is whining. Are you just wired to see the negative in absolutely everything (and making some up if there's none)?

There's really no point in marketing something too long in advance, and you know it. God of War (2018) was the same. Marketing will kick up soon enough.

I don’t usually buy games at launch these days (given the current insane prices), but I’ll make an exception for this since it’s wrapping everything up and will quite possibly be the end of the Norse Era.

This could get crazy.

I dont think its typical for box art to not use front facing characters… If they aren’t facing you its usually a really clean silhouette. This would have been nice for the steelbook though
That's mostly a western marketing thing though, but yea this would make a great steelbook for sure.

Damn I wanna see new footage, but I’m gonna buy it day one regardless - there’s literally nothing else that interests me. Except atomic heart which who knows when that’s out.

You Laugh at my post just because I'm looking forward to scorn and high and life, what a psychotic thing to do.

Interesting... I thought this Norse mythology series would be a trilogy. But knowing that this is the conclusion, I'm really excited now to see how insane they make Ragnarok look.

I’m sure sony ain’t debut new footage after an entire year at game informer lol

They are saving it for the showcase which is why he said a couple of weeks.
Game Informer covers are usually a pretty big marketing push, along with videos and interviews. They had that hilarious rapid question session with Miyamoto years back. Wouldn't be surprised to see something similar introducing the new director to people. Barlog was interviewed by literally every journalist in existence when the last game came out.

Making it a two-parter instead of a trilogy is whats gonna make it epic, instead of some middling thread connecting two bigger games
There is the risk of a rushed conclusion tho, unless the game really is like 40-50 hours ONLY for the campaign.

Hopefully this thing is gonna be gigantic.
