I'm not a fan of Dishonored, but I just looked up games released in 2012 and yeah, Walking Dead or Journey winning goty that year is a fucking joke. That year had Borderlands 2, Black Ops 2, Diablo 3, etc.

But most importantly, 2012 had the absolute banger that is LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW

Anyway, games awards are fucking jokes. They might as well just be called the Twitter awards, since everything that wins is just whatever is trending

I think it's any source that doesn't have a website, or is solely a user poll (like Reddit etc) or a website that is only focused on a certain region (eg Dutch game of the year for games developed in Dutch nations) etc.

They have a lot of words on that here.

Depends on how many outlets give awards. Last year was surprisingly low number of outlets doing awards compared to 2020.

It's really hard to take this seriously. Many fake outlets were created for a sole purpose of naming their favourite game as a GOTY. Lots of them had been disappeared from the internet.

A big market like Japan had few outlets in comparison to countries like Denmark, Sweden, Finland, etc. It doesn't even make any sense lol.

Outlets aren't counted if they haven't existed and regularly produced content tor at least half a year, and lists aren't counted if they're made by a single person.

A Plague Tale Requiem. Loved the story, beautiful art, excellent graphics, likeable characters and great voice acting.

Honorable Mention
High on Life. Not really GotY caliber but I'm having so much fun with this game I had to include it anyway.

Worst
P5 Royal. I don't finish games I don't like this one included. I only played this for about an hour to see why it gets so much praise. It was annoying as hell with a stupid story, horrible characters and acting and japanime graphics. I obviously don't get the praise for it still.

Great list, but I think DLCs and remakes/remasters shouldn't be included in the GOTY list. If something, if they make multiple categories they could include "best dlc" and "best re-release" categories.

These awards aren't 2022 GOTY awards. It's a game development event they make every summer and give awards to games released between that edition and the previous one.

as someone who enjoyed HZD and got the platinum, yes it’s that bad. I mean graphically even on PS4 it looks ridiculous good, but that’s the only redeeming quality for the game. Everything else is bloated, generic, like they read Baby’s First Open World Game and wanted to make sure to triple check every single box.

That's unfortunate, I liked HZD so much I had to play it twice before i traded my PS4 in on X1X. Sounds like the sequel didn't live up to expectations. Oh well, it seems like at least one person likes it.

Add me too. I loved it. Don't get the haters. I mean I get some of the complaints and feel they are valid. Bur to say that the game is trash and deserves hate? WTH man are you alright? It's not a bad game by any means.

Its a game that released to universal critical praise and does some of the best things in the industry as far as open world games go, but naw “game sucks bitch talks too much, elden ring lol”

Its still the 3rd highest rated AAA title this year but watch High on Life or Pokemon Violet win Gafs GOTY lol
