Halo is the franchise that helped define modern first-person shooters on consoles. With the release of Halo Infinite, let's look back at its history: from Halo: Combat Evolved and the Bungie years, spin-offs like Halo Wars, and the passing of the torch to 343 Industries.

Halo: Combat Evolved helped define much of modern gaming. From how first-person shooters control on console to leading the charge for online play via Xbox Live, it's a series that's long been venerated for pushing gaming forward. It hasn't been without missteps, but with the strong launch of Halo Infinite multiplayer and all signs pointing towards a high-quality campaign. it seems that Halo is back, baby.

In the above video, we chart the history of the Halo games. Although it is a series synonymous with the Xbox console, it started life as a Mac exclusive. Halo: Combat Evolved, originally called Monkey Nuts, was an RTS game, but developer Bungie eventually refined it into the classic first-person shooter we know it as today. And the impact the game's success would have on its sequels, and spin-offs is something also explored in the video. We also discuss the passing of stewardship of the franchise from Bungie to 343 Industries, a team set up to be the new custodians of the Halo series.

The Halo Universe: A rich, intricate tapestry chronicling humanities’ perseverance in the face of near extinction against universe-destroying technology and exploding Lovecraftian spore monsters. And Halo Infinite promises to be the culmination of the Halo Universe finally exploring every aspect of Halo lore. So to prepare you for the deepest of dives into history of Halo, video producer Jessie Earl explains every single piece of Halo tie-in media... and may get lost herself.

From Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 3 to Halo: First Strike to Halo The Graphic Novel to the story of 343 Guilty Spark, not a stone will be left unturned in the entire Halo universe… though perhaps a few stones might be turned inside Jessie Earl’s head.

And don’t worry, there’s not that much Halo media. 6 main games... 2 spinoff shooters... 2 RTS games... 2 twin-stick shooters… a VR game… a few films… some short films... 20+ novels...several graphic novels too… numerous comics… an audio drama…. A board game… Ok, look, it’s not complicate

This is a full history of the Halo franchise. From Bungie's roots building Sci-fi themed shooters in their Chicago offices, to 343 Industries' newly released Season 2 for Halo Infinite.

Celebrate 20 years of one of the most iconic first person shooter series every created by learning how the series has evolved! Halo is a first person shooter series created by Jason Jones, Marcus Lehto, and a team of Bungie developers and published by Microsoft for their new Xbox console. The series got its start as a hybrid RTS game built from the mold of their fantasy RTS series, Myth - and evolved to completely dominate the video gaming scene with its rich storytelling, beautiful scenery, balanced gunplay mechanics, and its revolutionary multiplayer. Following the groundbreaking Halo: Combat Evolved, Bungie created several more entries to the series, including Halo 2, Halo 3, a standalone expansion called Halo 3 ODST, and a prequel entry called Halo Reach.

After Bungie's departure from the franchise, Microsoft created 343industries to carry on its legacy, resulting in Halo 4, Halo 5, and most recently Halo Infinite.

Join me as I detail each and every game, breaking down their development history, storyline, gameplay features, visuals, and their critical reception, all backed with each game's original soundtrack.

This video was a tough one. Halo is not a series I'm quite as familiar with as past documentaries I've put together. In fact, some of these games I had played for the first time when recording. But thanks to some great archival work done by Bungie and some exhaustive interviews conducted by the likes of "VICE", I was able to piece together a complete breakdown of this series' history from start to finish. There's also a few easter eggs sprinkled in for diehard fans to discover, including some special cameo appearances from Halo Content Creator: LateNightGaming! Now sit back, grab a drink, and enjoy the ENTIRE History of Halo!
