Some games will grab my attention and hold it but very, very few..
I'm just at a place where I do not game like I used to..

I really just do other things and be a bit more productive.. and when a game does grab me I spend obscene amounts of time in it.

Try doing something else, lol. Why would you force yourself to do something if you're feeling burned out on it?

I mean, I guess it would be understandable if we were talking about work because you need to make a living and can't just drop it like a soft turn in a toilet bowl. But if it's something that you do for fun in your spare time, then just leave it and find something else to do. Read a book, catch up on some movies or shows, pick up a different hobby or skill, go out on a walk in a forest or do some urban exploring, visit an event that's happening in your city, hang out with friends. Whatever.

Find other things to do. It's not that difficult assuming you didn't go all in on gaming as your only hobby.

Read a book. There's a lot of great ones out there that would easily make you forget about gaming.

Don't play out of obligation and take a break. Nothing wrong with taking a break. I sometimes break for a month or a week. Not because I am burned out, but because there is nothing interesting to me.

Solution: Read a book, watch a movie/TV-show, cuddle, play the guitar, exercise, draw/paint, play a board game with family/friends, go outside, play VR, surf GAF, replay an old favorite game, checkout some Gamepass games, build a Raspberry Pi arcade machine, etc etc etc

I've never burned out on games in general, but I know the feeling from playing too many games from the same genre. If your gaming habits have been less than varied, I would try doing something about it. Step out of your comfort zone, play something radically different from what you usually play, and give it a good chance. If you haven't played many well-reviewed indie games, I'd start there.

Little short burst games are great for me. Rocket League, Smash and Splatoon 3 are the holy trinity for me. Grab my Switch, play for 20 mins or half an hour. Switching on the PS can seem daunting.

I ve had burnout 2 times and didnt play anything for around a month. The itch came back with full force, so just take a break. Relax

How do you guys deal with burnout ?

you finish a game or two and you feel like no other game could satisfy you , you feel like its just more of the same so its very hard to start a new game , there is no motivation

you take a long brake between games ? or you never get burnout ?
Yup. Go enjoy some other hobbies. I actually like the burnout....After the break...picking up a game again that I really want to play just feels awesome.

Its not a job.

Stop. I’m not obligated to play anything it is a pretty unproductive time but I prefer it to watching any video content

I often revert to simplistic games that are all about just one more go, rather than the complexities off dealing with crafting systems, inventory systems, progression systems etc.

A modern version of this is vampire survivor's, but I'm equally happy playing things like Williams defender or Robotron or any of the Housemarque titles.

Think of them as video game sorbet. A nice little palate cleanser before you move onto the main course.

I just go back in my library and download a bunch of old games I like. They don’t always sound appealing at first, but often times I’ll find one that I’m enjoying all over again, and that keeps me going till I have a craving for something else.

My answer to myself was that if I think I want to play games but don't have a specific game in mind, I'm probably just thinking it to take my mind off something else (in the real world) I actually need to do, whether that's something mundane (like tidying up or doing the laundry), something not 100% necessary but highly advisable (like exercising), or something optional but likely worthwhile (learning a new skill etc.).

My solution is stop, go do one of those things I probably do, and then come back and play some video games as a reward to myself. I feel like that's the only to make it feel worthwhile. It's great when you're a kid without a care in the world but unfortunately most of us cannot devote hours and hours to video games without it negatively affecting another part of our lives.

I'm at this point too. Currently struggling with Lady Maria in Bloodborne, I've grinded and tanked my way up to her and just don't have the patience and with declined motor skills I just can't see the patterns anymore or skills to react.
I also can't see the reason to invest the amount of time to see through Elden Ring for a ten second ending cutscene.
Personally I'd rather read a good book and I honestly think I'll put my PS5 up for sale.

Well for me I just play Battle for Middle Earth again and again like some demented peon.

Did anyone ever tell you the definition of insanity?

You could do something in the real life, preferable martial arts to get your body a little heat

and to get back to a nice feel in the gaming stuff, try to get games as soon as it launches. Hype really helps

Take a break. It's that simple.

If I'm not feeling up to playing games I'll read a book or watch a load of movies or, get this, go outside!

Learn to play a musical instrument, exercise, book some live events to go to. Do something else, basically.

IMO, Games are probably best when you fit them in around your life, rather than making them the focus of it.

This subject belongs in the trash bin with "Should Souls-like games have difficulty levels?" and "Sony needs to bring back DriveClub!". It's been over-discussed.

I usually just take a break from it all if it is really bad, otherwise I just play simplier games that don't have a storyline (online multiplayer), I go into GTA5 and wreck havoc or play some CoD, etc.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Just don’t play for a while. Week or
2 and I’ll get the urge to dive back into destiny for a while. Thankfully always new content being added.

This is actually the best advice.
AAA games burnout is a thing. The soulless blockbusters are plaguing our hobby, and the best way to fight back is to go with people who love gameplay focused games (Nintendo).
Exactly, read my mind. Couldn't have said it better.

I get more burned out the more i force trying to find something to play. Last game i beat was God Of War and nothing has grabbed me since.
Do other things or play short games you can pick up for a few min and drop. Let the urge comeback organically when something else grabs you.

Im in this phase now actually, waiting for the next one to get me. RE4 may do it, we shall see.

I stopped playing most games and I only play games which I enjoy, even if it means replaying older games.

I hate to be the 'old guy screaming in the clouds' but most current day games are fucking shit.

Well, having a rotation of games really sparks things. I’ll return to a game then play another.

My solution was having 2 kids within 2 years. Now I only have time to quickly shitpost on gaming forums and the rare times you can spend 30 minutes on even the most boring AAA open world game feels like bliss.

Master the burnout. Make the repetitive games that never seem to offer anything new burnout trying to entertain you. Become a burnout god.

I never really get that these days, as I barely have time to play games in general. That being said, when I play a game and it's not doing it for me, I watch a flick, read something, maybe work out, fix up a meal or a snack, something like that. I've been playing through Just the Two of Us with my daughter, and I have to take breaks often as, though it's fun, I get a bit bored fairly quickly, so I just say "hey....take a break and watch some Simpsons?", to which she pretty much always goes, "yeah we'll play later."

In summary, just do something else man. The world has a seemingly infinite amount of media to get to, no reason to focus on one when you're not feeling it.

Sometimes when you beat a game there is this level of satisfaction where you don't feel the need to play anything at that level any time soon.
I consider this "Gaming cooldown".
Could be a day or a month+
Just chill and ride it out. Playing something light or just for fun. Game X Multiplayer, minecraft, starcraft. emulators. whatever.

I've noticed burnouts last much longer after playing heavily padded 50+ hour games.
