GamingBolt: 20 Years of Xbox - Here Are The 20 Best (Original) Xbox Games

Around two decades ago, just as Sega was exiting the console market following the Dreamcast's failure, Sony and Nintendo got another major competitor in the form of Microsoft and Xbox. And though Xbox has, of course, seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years (as others have), the brand has persevered and strengthened. It goes without saying that the original Xbox, which came out twenty years ago in November 2001, had a huge role to play in that, laying down a foundation upon which Microsoft would continue to build with all future consoles.

And a lot of that is down to the library- which had more than a few killer releases that are considered to be among the best games of that era. As Xbox celebrates its 20th anniversary, here, we'll be talking about our twenty favourite games in the original Xbox's library.

For me the best games are Splinter Cell, Halo, Conker, Riddick, Doom 3, HL2, Operation Flashpoint, Max Payne, RalliSport Challenge 2, Full spectrum warrior, Shenmue, Thief, Deus Ex and some more that I don't remember now :messenger_grinning_sweat:

The Xbox is now 20 years old, and so what better time to take a fresh look back at Microsoft's first console and remember its best games. There were many incredible ones despite the machine enjoying just a four-year lifecycle, and we've ranked our top 10 here from a team, including IGN executive editor Ryan McCaffrey, who gamed through it while working at Official Xbox Magazine.

As always, if we missed one of your favorites, tell us about it in the comments below!

The original Xbox was an absolute beast of a console. Every console is defined, first and foremost, by its library, and the Xbox had a killer one, full of amazing games from all genres, many of which stand as all-time greats to this day. Those who have a fondness for single player games also had an embarrassment of riches on the console, and here, we're going to talk about a few games from that group that we feel stand the tallest amongst them all.

I agree with the list for HL2, chaos theory, riddick, max Payne, halo and morrowind.

The Xbox brand has had its ups and downs over the years, whether it's the long gaps between exclusives, the success of Game Pass, or the number of acquisitions.

It's easy to forget then how much simpler the OG Xbox was back in the day, entering as the third big competitor in the console wars and quickly making an impact. Let's look back on some of the best Xbox games of all time, and what made them stand out.
