Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection // Announcement Trailer

From this video GhostResurrection seems to be one of the most accomplished technical releases on Switch and a good use of REngine.

1080p/720p resolution, 60fps target, short loading times and impressive detailed animation.

It isn't perfect, there are drops on a few areas in Docked move but in general its very stable i find hilarious they compare it negatively to MegaMan 11 as that game looks hideous next to Ghost even without any drops

Art style looks very clean, almost cel animated kinda.

I remember playing the original SNES version back as a teen, beating the final boss and then getting sent back to find the armband and redo the game over. In a HARDER difficulty setting! Wanted to throw the controller!

But the armband gave you instant kills on just about everything. Beat it again and never played it after that! Lol

This is it for another 15 years or so, unless this blows the doors off in sales. It’s quite good, although I feel like we are playing ‘Old Snake’Arthur as opposed to a more spry one from previous titles as he’s just a tad bit slower. As a GnG veteran, this has a nice difficulty at ‘Knight’ level, and Arthur’s magic is no longer tied to gold armor or weapon type. He must have learned from Merlin in the interim of releases. There is more of everything, pretty much: magic, HP (3), and weapons. It’s a game that I look forward to making a little progress each day in.

Brutal. Just brutal.

Took me almost 3 hours and 157 deaths to finish the first level.

I swear this game must have a very clever algorithm to guess what you’re going to do in many instances. Sometimes it just knows where and when you’re gonna jump, it really looks like it’s reading your mind.
I thought my "skills" had faltered. Finished the first level with around 120ish deaths. Game is brutal on Legend 😂

Yeah I think I hate this. Arthur controls like crap, he's too slow, he shoots too slow, the game is relentless at throwing shit at you to the point where you have to be constantly on guard, and the game flow suffers as a result. It's almost impossible to be fearless and confident, no matter how well you learn the level or patterns. You expect to get hit, even when you don't.

I went back to the older G'n'G games to see if I was crazy, and those games play so well in comparison. They're responsive, fast, precise and swift. And above all, manageable. The near-misses don't feel lucky, they feel exhilarating.

I dunno.

Really loving this game! It really feel like the classic entries. Gameplay wise it feels just like the old ones, maybe it controls a little better. People are talking about lag and stuff, I have no idea what they are referring to. Plays just like Genesis/SNES entries.

It's hard but do-able. Infinite lives and the checkpoints are really generous. For instance there is often a checkpoint right at the start of a boss fight.

Plus, this is a game series known for being hard. GNG games are infamous for difficulty. I'm glad they didn't hold back.

Looking forward to replaying all the alternate paths. I can see bumping up the difficulty from Squire as I learn these levels.

Love the way this game looks. Some screenshots:

Loooooving this SO much. Even in the little bit of time that I played it. The art style is really cool and works incredibly well as it's shown as a classic drawing and painting. Haven't had a problem with controls or anything else for that matter yet. It looks and feels like a proper G&G title, and I'm absolutely in love.

I wish it could've been a larger release on more consoles, with more content, and a physical version. Maybe if it's successful that could happen? As someone that has been in love with the IP since I was a kiddo, I'm certainly going to hope for the best.

Artwork looks so bad (or to be more precise, they way in that the artwork it's animated) but at the same time i really wanted a new Ghost n Goblins so i think i'll get it anyway. It's out already, right?

When i first saw the videos the animation looked rank it was like how they animate shadow puppets it looked very basic but after playing for a few hours i have kind of gotten used to it. the graphics look weird in places but they also look pretty cool at the same time, made it upto the citadel approach stage, it's been kicking my ass as i learn the stages but it's been a lot of fun. For people saying that the firing is too slow lol nope sorry it's not slow at all i have played super ghouls & ghosts so many times on the snes that it's burned into my memory. The lance travels at the same speed in that one as it does this, yup Arthur does move a bit slower but you have a lot of control over him plus several abilities to make up for that. If you want fast firing then you hunt down the daggers or the throwing star. combined with doppleganger it can cause a lot of damage fast.

So far i'm really enjoying it, once i know the levels by memory i'll move the difficulty back up to the max setting for now it's one below.

What changes from Legend to Knight besides 2 armor pieces? I think I‘ll jump to Knight, the other one is too time consuming.

Projectile speed isn't the problem, firing rate is. The game literally won't let you fire two projectiles in a row as quickly as the old games did, which means you're vulnerable for a split second between shots. And when you have multiple enemies rushing you very fast, that sucks.

Haven’t watched GiantBomb in about a year, but YouTube lured me into their QuickLook of this game.
Can’t believe I ever watched or listened to those fucks.

This game looks awesome and seems incredibly difficult. I think it pays absolute proper tribute to its lineage.
Jeff's whole schtick of either "I never liked this popular series/game" or "Why did they try to mix up the formula for something I liked 20 years ago?" is so old at this point. The fact that these guys are so tired, uninterested and out of touch with most new games.. while at the same time asking people to fork over money for Premium is a joke.

The common "this looks like a flash game" generalization is lazy as fuck. Like, if you give 10 artists the same tools, is their work going to all be the same quality? Of course not.

Then again, I'm like 10 years off from the average Giant Bomb staffer age and thought Streets of Rage 4 looked really ugly, but am fine with GnG Resurrection. 🤷‍♂️

Anyone understand how the chest counter for the levels works?

Fireflies get saved after you get them the first time and only give you points every other time, but it doesn't seem to work the same way for chests. Also, there's definitely more than 6 chests in each level.

Progress: I've beaten level "1-low" (the one inspired from the first level of Ghouls 'n Ghosts) which is significantly easier and shorter than "1-high". Only 34 deaths there.

Went on to "2-high" and it's a fantastic level, but the second part with the ladders is... fuck. Not one inch less hard than its original GnG counterpart.

I'm glad you can keep fireflies after you die. Also enjoying the magic spells, the rock one was super useful during one boss fight.

The game looks to have a lot of replay value, which is cool. I can see learning these levels and getting really good at the game (meaning being able to survive only dying a few times).

The graphics are so nice and sharp, they look like fantasy cartoons or watercolor paintings. People hung up on the animation technique (which is over 100 years old) are missing out on the beautiful artwork. One of the best looking games on Switch.

Maaan, fuck this game. I love it and I’m terrible at it...and I actually beat Super Ghouls and Ghosts. It looks great in motion and it’s exactly what it should be. I can’t even finish the first level on Legend (yet), so fuck this game, but I’ll keep trying.

Legend is a really hardcore mode. I would not recommend as a first playthrough. Squire is fine and still pretty challenging! I'm playing on Knight.

Seriously lol. I can't even beat Legend level 1.

Somehow we got to the end of the SNES game as kids, with the bad ending. Left the system on for 3 days and had 4 people taking turns playing.

Squire basically plays itself after getting used to Legend. There’s very, very few enemies, checkpoints galore, and a gold armor in every other chest. I booted it just to get the achievement for getting through a level without dying, and did it first try. It’s actually relaxing, something I wouldn’t associate with GnG :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I'm playing on legendary now & to be honest i haven't had any issue with taking down waves of enemies the controls hold up perfectly well, if you get hit then it's because you screwed up not the game it's brutally hard but also fair too. While you do get swarmed on legendary difficulty there is always a way out if you keep track of what's on screen and fight accordingly you have to keep the numbers down while learning when to stay & fight & when to move on. There are traps in each stage but once you have fallen for them once you can learn to avoid them.

When i first saw videos of this game running it did put me off on the animation style however the more i played the more i got over it and realised what capcom was going for, it's like playing a storybook tale of Arthur's adventure hence for the hand drawn lush graphics and the janky shadow puppet style animation. Think this is going to be a marmite game in the end there will be people on both sides that will either love or hate it. As far as it been a competent G&G game i have little to no complaint's so far in fact my only complaint is it been digital only.

I do think some people are shitting on it because it's a switch exclusive at the moment so it's just sour grapes. Maybe they should turn those grapes into whine.
