The video is a review of the game Hexen 2 by Civvie.- HeXen 2 was supposed to go beyond the original HeXen series, but after the acquisition of Raven Software by Activision, it became a separate franchise.
- HeXen 2 is based on an advanced version of the Quake engine and has an introductory cutscene to introduce the story and recap the other games in the series.
- The narrator in the cutscene talks about the events of Heretic and HeXen and the slaying of the first two Serpent Riders, and how Eidolon, the last and most powerful of the Serpent Riders, is ravaging the world.
- The video has humorous moments where Civvie makes sarcastic remarks and interacts with Cancer Mouse.
The player character has to grab some mana to feel comfortable before raiding the Tomb of Loric, where they need to obtain Loric's bones.
The player character has to face spiders and archers, with the latter sometimes being replaced by the more powerful Archer Lord.
The game features an armor system that affects each class differently and deflects attacks for the Assassin.
To get the castle key, the player character needs to make a potion of Mithril transmutation from Loric's bones and use it to break a wall underwater in the barbican.
The regular golems, imps, and buffed versions of previous enemies are not too much of a threat in the castle.
The player character gains the soul-stealing ability and needs to go to the Stables to find the treasury key and the amulet of hunger, which is hidden in a shop.
To enter the treasury, the player character also needs the stable key, which is not in the Stables, but in the Inner Courtyard, where most of the action takes place.
The player describes a level in Hexen II where they obtain the serpent's heart from a nearby crypt and place it on an altar to spawn a skull wizard and fight a demon.- The level design in HeXen 2, especially in this hub, is much simpler.
- The Palace of Columns leads to the Tomb of the High Priest, where the player gets the first piece of their slot 4 weapon, the Raven Staff, and the trial of air.
- The player describes a battle with Death, where they embarrass the reaper the only way a Necromancer whose ability to raise the dead was cut during development could.
- The next level in Hexen II, Thysis, is infamous for being the most convoluted and difficult level in the game. The player describes the enemies and items they must collect to reach the boss, Pestilence.
The player attempts to fight a Medusa in melee and the Medusa head-butts him.
The player struggles to exit a reflecting pool and finds out later that they needed to use a "Swim Up" button.
The enemies are extremely spongy, making the section tedious, but puzzles and item collection are easy.
The messages in the game all have the same texture and are in Latin, translating to "No Python."
The player is irritated by the reskin of the regular wizards, the Shadow Wizards.
The player struggles with the hardest general, War, and has to use several power-ups to defeat him.
The player returns to Blackmarsh, where the enemies are harder and in some cases total bullshit.- The player enters a mage tower and needs to chop away a tapestry to progress.
A good portion of the last hub is sewers, and the player feels like it's unnecessary busywork at this point.
The player expresses boredom before beginning to play the game.
The next level involves a real puzzle that requires a pen and paper or a note-taking app.
The game introduces "snow were-leopards" as enemies, which are reskinned were-jaguars.
The player must collect three jewels as an offering to Shiva, which is pretty easy despite the reskinned enemies.
The player jumps into a fire and discovers it is the intended way to progress.
The player fights obnoxious enemies and two buffed golems that guard the final boss level, the Inner Sanctum of Praevus.
The player is frustrated that the Serpent Riders are suddenly released and the saga of HeXen concludes.
Portal of Praevus cannot be purchased on Steam due to rights issues, but can be bought for $119.95 online or pirated.

I played em both back in the day. But man, seeing them side by side in the video, HeXen's pixel art still look gorgeous, and the early 3D visuals of hexen 2 looks like azz

Personally 2d sprites in a 3d environment always looked like ass to me. Much prefer Hexen 2
