Golden Eye 007 coming to Game Pass and Switch Online on January 27

Blame Nintendo, can’t be sold separately and no pc version and no online lol, why did ms agree to this crap, who knows
Because it was likely this or nothing at all. Even if we just get the offline game at 4k with a smooth 60, that's far and away the easiest and best way to play the game now. Even the specialised emulator versions on pc have their imperfections.

Switch is pure nostalgia. 15 FPS in 4 Player Multiplayer Mode

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Agreed. 5th gen games don't look that great when you upscale them as much. N64 in particular has some VI filters that only Angrylion and Parallel RDP can emulate. The razor sharp look of those HLE graphics plugins don't look great.

The best look for N64, IMO, is Parallel RDP ar 2x upscale. That's 480p with the filters enabled. It's just high-res enough to not look blurry but low-res enough to not look completely unnatural. And the slight softness of the N64 filters looks great at that resolution.
For me that only really works if I use the downsample by 1/2 after, otherwise it's enough to make flaws like the super close lod levels and what not much more apparent. With the 1/2 option it's still enhanced by the internal res being higher but not too much so.

I don’t think 4K on this game is a bonus. Stil has N64 textures. I’m gonna hook my Switch up to my CRT.

If you’re doing that just hook up your N64.

About time but, look forward to this tomorrow. The SP and times has plenty of replay ability compared to some N64 games that last all of a couple hours.

I’m going to play it with Rare Replay. I feel like this game has been emulated to the point where releasing it any other way wouldn’t guarantee the profit these companies want. So many love this game, but they’ve emulated it over a couple thousand times. Now here comes this January 27th port.

The N64 version has a terrible frame rate in MP and of course isnt playable online.

I would be excited to play this on switch if they modernised the controls. A pro controller, with any of the riots that you’re forced to choose from, isn’t fun.
Yes, I know you can customise things at system level but I shouldn’t have to change the controls every time I want to play a particular game.

For campaign the 360 remaster is the only way to go. Takes about 30 seconds of research to figure out how to play it on PC. They literally upgraded the visuals on every front and you can switch to old-school visuals with the press of a button. It was flawless.
Ehhhhhh...It's unfinished. It's buggy as shit and crashes constantly. Has memory leaks. The graphics swap also results in bugging out your arms and eventually resulting in a hard crash...

It's pretty cool that we can play it, but it's hardly flawless.

Fixed it for you.

Whomever leaked the XBLA remaster gave me my fix. And what, I can't be disappointed that an already existing and superior remaster won't be officially completed? There are already emulators out there capable of doing this, so yeah, it stings.

So it's that same NSO multiplayer, that's bogus.
To be fair it works surprisingly well with 2 players, played several SNES games to completion with a friend hundreds of km away and it was excellent.

But with 4 players and considering the already choppy FPS of Goldeneye MP? I’m not sure it will be pleasant.

I'm disappointed too but at least we have something playable on Xbox. I've played the remaster but I'll have fund with this too. Also not everyone has a PC set up for gaming.
Blame Nintendo, no doubt the rules they put in place prevented MS from using the remaster.

Nintendo is such an asshole to negotiate with. Microsoft allowed Banjo Kazooie to be on the N64 emulator and allowed Banjo (and Steve from Minecraft) to be put in Smash, yet they won't even allow Microsoft to release an updated version of Goldeneye on xbox or sell Goldeneye separately. If I was Phil Spencer, I would be losing my patience over how disrespectful Nintendo has been. "Goodwill" is not in the Nintendo vocabulary, apparently.

It is what it is. It’s been held up for over a decade, like MS wanted to put a remaster out on xbla on the 360. Activision made a Goldeneye remake for the Wii a year before porting it elsewhere. MS finally gets cleared for a gimped version but can move on from what must have been a pretty frustrating deal with Nintendo.

One of my all time faves but i think for me nostalgia will be nice but I dont know that I will play it that much in reality.
Ye kinda where I'm at too, my older brothers swears he'll 100% though having been waiting like mad. Gonna be nice to play some MP this weekend with 3 other friends while having some drinks though.

Microsoft is spending $70b on Activision, maybe they should've used that money for a better GoldenEye version.

Yeah but isn’t it $40 for Rare Replay? Just to play Goldeneye.

Vs NSO Expansion Pack with like 150 games, I dunno.

Rare Replay has been on sale a bunch over the years, even given away for Games with Gold or like if you used Mixer to watch e3 once.

Lots of people will get Goldeneye for free with Gamepass or Rare Replay.

Do we know if this is getting an entry in the Rare Replay museum thing or if it is just being tacked onto it with a button or menu addition? If I recall there was some behind the scenes info on the games in there so it could be neat to see what they could have for this.

It's up on Game Pass now. Not sure about Rare Replay. I have Rare Replay installed but it doesn't seem to have an update for it yet. Probably tomorrow.
