Handsome men and beautiful women in video games are a good thing and you shouldn't feel ashamed for supporting it

It's a known fact that handsome men and beautiful women are part of the real world. They are not exclusive to Hollywood movies, television, and video games. But just as well there are also ugly or weird, if not normal looking people (the so-called everyman) and we shouldn't forget this. That said, I feel that a more realistic video game means we will continue to see attractive men and beautiful women featured in them (and in most cases playing as them) and often the traditionally less attractive characters will be relegated to the background. I think the main reason for this is obviously because attractive people catch our eye and so we remember them a little more if you go by just their appearance alone. Certainly there are women who play a video game and maybe daydream about being rescued by Leon S. Kennedy or Chris Redfield with his boulder biceps and can you really blame them? No. So why then is it that some of you talk down to your fellow gamers for wanting to see and play as attractive women in video games? What about the guy who enjoys playing an RPG as a female character and wants to make them look beautiful? There's nothing wrong with that.

Let me put it like this, if you were to create or commission a talented game developer to create your video game and you already know in your head or on paper what the characters should look like, isn't it safe to say they would likely be good looking characters? I'm not saying the virtual women would necessarily have big breasts or big hips or long glamorous hair but I'm sure there are women who enjoy playing as beautiful female characters. I mean, I don't think women are so different if you really think about it - both genders appreciate traditionally attractive looking characters, be it from movies, video games, television and books. We are not so different.

I have to say... I just don't think it's an issue. Handsome or ugly, i couldn't care less... I'm not trying to hate on you but yeah, i just don't have a strong opinion either way on this one.. but I'm pretty strong in my neutrality lol ..

Look, time was that "gameplay is more important than graphics" was the ultimate hip gamer forum sage thing to say... I for one still feel that way.. i don't care much about the skin coating the polygon models, etc, so long as it looks right for the game.

I don’t care how they look TBH. I just can’t stand when ppl cry about women not being supermodels. I’ll let designers make whatever they want and I’ll make my own decision on how good a character is. Make them hot, make them ugly. I don’t care. But I won’t complain with either

I know, but there are people who act like appreciating the female form is some kind of immature thing when it isn't.
I mean virigns are saying this, because women are exactly the same, they might get turned on with something more complex than just a appearance, but they do act in very similar thing.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I support using anyone, ugly, good looking, thin, fit, fat, as long as they’re not danger hair, morality pushing, Twitter pronoun warriors.

The nicest person on this forum
It up to developers themselves in what type of character designs they want in their games but what I DON'T WANT TO SEE is someone personally attacking the artist just because they are not personally fan of the design......like what happened with whole Dragon's Crown controversy over Sorceress design.

No? That’s like saying all women aspire to look like a supermodel, whereas 2000s have seen raise and growing popularity of ‘natural’ campaigns - look at Dove or growing movement of body-positivity.
You can just be honest and mention most videogames are in effect male power fantasies, sexy women required.

I don't mean good looking as in she has to look like a supermodel. Maybe I'm speaking for myself, but I know when I draw male and female characters, I aim to make them look attractive. The main characters anyway. Not saying EVERY character in a story has to be good looking of course.

Let developers create the games they want. Vote with your wallet.

I like well designed characters, and that is not exclusive to the level of physical attractiveness of said characters.
A well designed character is one that suits the tone, setting, and creative direction of a given game. All criteria which vary from title to title.

Hot looking characters haven't gone anywhere at all, despite what some love to claim.

I'm ok when how the character looks makes sense for the story the game is trying to tell

It's not about sexualization, but context above all (sometimes sexualization, yes)

Like, in MGS V you can wear a chicken hat in order to make the game easier.

Imagine trying to tell an emotional moment through a cutscene with Snake wearing a fucking chicken hat.

Noctis having the option to eat Cup Noodles in FF XV was equally dumb (not even going to mention the Cup Noodles hat).

But now going more back on topic: if the character looks makes sense in that game world, that's fine. Beautiful or ugly, skinned or buffed, I dont care, as much as my immersion isnt broken.

Lara is ok. 2B is dumb. Bayonetta is ok. Quiet is dumb.

Most japanese games with anime looking characters = dumb

And etc.

People complaining that characters look too good is lame. But, so are the people who complain whenever an average, or even below average, looking person appears in a game.

Some of you are so obsessed with ResetEra that you have to take the exact opposite stance on everything and be just as melodramatic about it.

Words are wind.

Actions show this has been the norm, is the norm, and will continue to be the norm becouse it sells well.

I think you should be more ashamed of almost listening to the few loud fools complaining trying to force thier desires upon your life. No need to be ashamed of something you enjoy that doesnt harm others.

Im all for good looking characters however I am also for creative freedom where if a director wants a specific character that they envision for a role, ill allow it. Im not about to take away their creative freedom and throw a fit like a baby bitch like some people do here.

Yeah I mean I remember there was this massive controversy about all fighting game female characters Having massive tits it’s like well if your a developer and your making a female character and you like tits I don’t really see the problem..I like tits.

I can give a fuck either way, just live I havent given a fuck in movies.

Games are going to have less boobs on sticks though. They simply did that to sell games, because they think gamers are losers that love to simp. Tomb Raider was 90% designed by marketing.

Completely agree. This trend of frumpy women in gaming, of intentionally making women unattractive, has to end.

Were talking about games, were talking about fantasy here. I want the characters in my games to be attractive whenever appropriate. It's also OK to have some ugly characters. The only thing I'm asking is to NOT intentionally make sure your game doesn't contain anything attractive or sexy.

Does any other industry behave like this? Do you think Gal Gadot would have been cast as Wonder Woman if she was an average looking woman? Ofcourse not. She got that role because she's absolutely gorgeous!

And what's the ideology behind this trend anyway?

Maybe this only applies to women because I can’t remember male protagonist that isn’t extremely buffed (I feel insulted) or if not as buffed than really handsome, blonde, blue eyes etc. And that’s fine, keep it that way.

Porn industry, in my opinion, is main culprit for turning this issue of female sexuality on its head. That’s why when someone asks for a romantic scene in video games these days, people immediately scream “go watch porn”! And I just sigh.

I remember when I had an Etch and Sketch when I was a kid. You think me [or anybody else with one] was drawing flat chested females. Lol no way.

I think most guys probably did the same exaggerated doodles or creations.

SJW ideology.

It’s something they can get away with in games for the most part because gameplay kind of overshadows other factors. Try that in blockbuster movies and they usually bomb though.

Yea the idea of representation sucks because I see enough fat ugly old people every day. Video games and movies are entertainment. I'm entertained by watching attractive people do cool stuff. I've always hated this idea that having ugly characters has any sort of benefit whatsoever unless it's core to their character or story (Quasimodo for instance). I mean even the first Nier I had a tough time getting into because papa Nier was so goddamn ugly.
