Has Sony shared any sales data from Demon's Souls (PS5, 2020)?

In their latest PR, they shared sales data on the following games, I'm looking but can't find anything on Demon's Souls.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games has sold more than 6.5 million copies* since releasing on November 12, 2020
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games has sold more than 6.5 million copies* since releasing on November 12, 2020

  • MLB® The Show™ 21 from San Diego Studio is the fastest-selling title in franchise history with more than 2 million copies* sold across all platforms. The game has reached more than 4 million players since releasing on April 16, 2021
  • Returnal from Housemarque, a new IP that launched to critical acclaim, has sold more than 560,000 copies* since releasing on April 30, 2021
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from Insomniac Games has sold more than 1.1 million copies* since releasing on June 11,

This is all the info I can find on Demon's (2020) and it doesn't sound very impressive. Could this be the reason for Sony Japan studio's unfortunate close down considering they took the reigns with Bluepoint on the remake? (Sony has rid of quite a few of their development teams who's games have failed in sales historically)?

"During its first week of release, Demon's Souls debuted at the sixth position in the all-format charts in the UK,[25] the fifth position in the Switzerland all-format charts,[26] and the eleventh position in the Japan individual-format charts. 18,607 physical copies were sold that week in Japan.[27] In the U.K, Demon's Souls landed at no. 16 on the list of the top 20 bestselling video game softwares in the month of November.[28]

On January 13 2021, the PlayStation Blog reported that Demon's Souls was the fifth bestselling PlayStation 5 game digitally for 2020 in the United States, Canada, and all of Europe.[29]"

I think this most important thing about Demon's Souls sales is they can determine if Sony will ever fork down cash on another exclusive Souls game again? I'm glad Demon's Souls exists on PS5 but wonder if it's the last of its kind (btw I'm surprised we have seen Bloodborne 2 considering its sales were decent)

Regardless of how well it did or didn't sell, Demon's Souls is definitely the worst Souls game and was only "surprisingly decent" in comparison to the "HD is hard" trash coming out of Japan at the time. I have no idea how or why they chose it for a AAA remake, its fanbase has always been super niche and it was never a 10 out of 10 or greatest game of all time to anyone. The game's on a similar tier to Folklore. It's like someone meme'd it into existence by constantly tweeting Shuhei with an army of bots or something.

They talked about this on the latest Sacred Symbols episode which made me wonder what's the case about the sales.

I bought it at launch with the console because it was easily the most next gen game out of the bunch. I was prepared to sell the game after I had played it some time because a couple of years ago I dropped Bloodborne because of it's difficulty.
It was my first From Software game which I finished and made me in love with them.

This game deserves to be played if you own a PS5.

I disagree as I loved the first one and the remake even more. Dark Soils 2 was the worst of the series.

Yeah. The game probably sold worse than returnal.

I brought this up several times in the ot but i had a lot of trouble finding players to coop. Never had this much trouble.
My problem with this is that it's unlikely Sony would fund another exclusive Souls game again if true. A passion project like Demon's Remastered would not exist.

Maybe MS will try to secure one or Nintendo like they paid for Bayonetta.

Sony very rarely shares sales of their games. In their latest press release mentioned the sales of some of their recent games, but not all. They didn't share sales of Demont's Souls, Sackboy or Destruction All Stars. This doesn't mean they sales are bad, Sony didn't release sales of many very successful games, or waited for years before sharing them.

My problem with this is that it's unlikely Sony would fund another exclusive Souls game again if true. A passion project like Demon's Remastered would not exist.
First, Sony not releasing sales of a game doesn't mean it had bad sales since traditionally they don't provide sales numbers for most of their games even if very successful. Second, it's just a remake and launch game so sales aren't that important and will come over time.

Sony signed a deal with From Software's parent company where Sony will help the games and anime of that company to reach a more global market, because until now Kadokawa has been too focuse on Japan only. Kadokawa gave 2% of its company to Sony as an exchange for that. It means more anime content for Sony's animation streaming services and to help publishing and marketing their games, and basically also means Sony has Kadokawa grabbed by the balls since the main focus for Kadokawa is to expand worldwide thanks to Sony.

And the first think Sony will ask Kadokawa in terms of games is From Software exclusive games, since it's the most valuable thing Kadokawa has in terms of gaming and the main reason for Sony to accept this deal. So yes, Sony will make more games with From Software and very likely soulsborne games. If not announced may be because From must be busy with Elder Ring as of now, so may work on it after it.

You’d think it sold ok as it was one of the main launch titles and the PS5 sold quite well.
I also don’t think it will make any difference to Playstation green lighting another Souls game by Miyazaki as Bloodborne did well. And a Miyazaki Souls game is the only Souls game that matters

The obvious reason for that is those are the games that never lit the world on fire and giving out those numbers is not PR friendly.

We see this all the time.

If Xbox sales start to overtake Playstation in certain regions this gen you can bet MS will be more transparent with their numbers and start talking about hardware sales again.
What the heck does Xbox numbers have to do with Demon's Souls.
What kind of fake concern thread is this?

I bought one copy of Demon's Souls, there's numbers for you...

It’s my favourite game ever since 2009 so shut up with your nonsense. It’s the most influential game since RE4. Deal with it.

In the case of Xbox yes, they hide their numbers because compared to Sony and Nintendo the amount of games and consoles they sell are crap. This is the reason of why are they leaving Xbox and moving to other platfroms, specially PC, and also leaving game sales to replace them with a subscription. To see if at least they can shine there.

In the case of Sony they only share sales numbers of a few games from time to time, and they don't need to be the most successful ones. As an example, in their latest PR they included a game from last year: Miles Morales. But they didn't include 2 other games they also released in H2 2020 that are way more successful: TLOU2 and GoT.

Does it mean TLOU2 and GoT tanked? Not at all. It just means that Sony only includes a handful games in the press releases, those that in that moment make sense in PR terms. This time they decided to share sales of the PS5 1st party games, and Demon's Souls isn't one of them.

Pretty likely somewhere soon they will announce the acquisition of Bluepoint, and they mention Demon's Souls sales in that press release. Or maybe they will wait until the game reaches certain milestone, like 3 or 5 million units sold.

They talked about this on the latest Sacred Symbols episode which made me wonder what's the case about the sales.
The press release included the sales of their 1st party games, not sales of 2nd party or 3rd party ones. Demon's Souls not being there doesn't mean it had bad sales.

Funny enough they were right about PS5 hitting 10million before it was announced and they’ve been right alot these last few years
To guess they were around 10M was easy, and they have been wrong constantly always. Obviusly from time to time after making a gazillion guesses eventually some of them may end being accurate.

most likely didn't sell that well, even when multiplatform these games are pretty niche
They were niche when the original Demont's Soul was released. But Bloodborne, the Dark Souls games and Sekiro had very good sales and Elder Ring has been the most hyped game of E3. Soulsborne aren't Fortnite, but they have a great sales potential. Bloodborne 2 or their next IP could easily achieve over 5M copies, and maybe even may end reaching 10M, something only a few Sony games achieved.

I suspect it's around a million but nothing great. Think the main pack-in game would have been miles morales.

No, so it means that it didn't sell well

Remake of the game that gave birth to its own gategory of games.
It sold well enough.

It might be that Sony is deliberately quiet on the sales numbers due to upcoming acquisition of BluePoint.

More influential than PUBG? Battle Royale has been quite a 'thing'...

Fortnite has 80 million monthly active players. Warzone had six million players in less than 24 hours of going live.

Realistically Demon Souls Remake sales numbers are probably in the 600-700k region.

I think most of the PS5 exclusive ones will become long time seller .

how you do it , you do it wrong.
If you bring it only on PS5 it will not bring the investment back because of the base.

If you make it cross gen than all of your hardcore fans cry

I don't think PS5's success hinges on this game or anything,

but did it sell well enough to warrant Sony ever funding a new Souls game for it?

Sony is quick to close down studio's when games don't meet expectations as we've seen in the past, much less fund more games from the same franchise.

What are you on about? Those games were released after 2017. Demon’s Souls came in 2009 and was a revolution in game design that impacted the whole industry.

Why be so concerned?
If there will be a game like that, I will buy that one too.

I don´t care how much it sold, if it´s a flop or a success, I´m just grateful that Sony chose to remake this game and bring it to such a high quality standard. Demon´s Souls is one of my favourite games of all time and this remake easily made the PS5 a day one purchase, best launch game ever. I do admit that it´s sad if the game actually flopped because I hope it doesn´t change Sonys mind about more Souls-games. My personal estimate I would think Demon´s is around 5-600 000 sold copies, and that it will probably reach around 2-3 million when this gen comes to an end.

Same. Loved DS and was hoping BP would get a chance to do the sequel but not after these sales.

Disappointing.

I really feel for those concerned about PS5 game sales. I honestly don’t know how you sleep at night.
Personally, I let Sony worry about that side of things.

I know, right. As long as Sony keeps releasing bangers like Demon’s Souls and Returnal, who the fuck cares. They make more than enough money to afford giving tasteful gamers their quality hardcore fantasies.

I'm impressed with most PS5 sales so far, other than a few blips like Returnal and Demon's (from what we know).

TBH, my problem is these are the best Sony published franchises and I wouldn't want to see games like this disappear in favor of the blockbuster third person cinematic action genre that I don't really like that Sony seems to love.

What’s up with all this sudden surprise that games infamously known to be difficult not selling like big blockbuster numbers? Has this ever been the case?

”Oh shit, only 5-10% of people owning a PS5 bought this game?”

Same thing with the Returnal thread.

These games weren’t made with the intent to be sold to all and everyone.

I'd say it sold low enough that we'll be getting a PS4 and PC version before long. It's definitely a niche entry and was massively bettered in every way by Dark Souls, obviously the remake is gorgeous, but it's inferior design and gameplay-wise to what came later, only those that played Demon Souls first could possibly see it as the best, pure nostalgia.
