he went to prison for it, but dont know where any of that stands

heres the story

I worked with a woman once whose lesbian ex-cop SO dressed up like a dude and tried to rob a bank (even painted a fake beard on) while high on crack and then ran from police for a while. I actually hung out with them together drinking a few times, she was pretty fun outside of that.

Not that I was friends with the guy but some dude stabbed another dude in the neck at high school over some chick. Both dudes were in some of the same classes I took.
Dude died on the spot

Close friend who I went to school with, lived in the same house as, beat Halo on Legendary with(with a congratulatory high five), ended up being a pedophile. Never spoke or saw him again. He is still in prison for raping a 3 year old child. Never want to see him again. Sick.
A guy I hung out with in high school went to prison for a few years after getting caught in a Chris Hansen-esque sting operation. He was chatting online with a cop who was pretending to be a 14 year old girl. She gave him a place to meet her, he drove there, cops were waiting, and he was promptly arrested.

One of my groomsmen dusted a guy a couple weeks ago. Haven't had a chance to talk to him about it but from what I've heard he isn't at all happy about it. He wont be going to jail. I knew the perp he shot as well (though only met him once). He was white so yeah, not much news coverage on it.

I also drove by the scene after it happened and wondered, "Geeze what the hell just went down there?".

I have a near identical story to this. My friend was engaged, and the idiot girl still married him! The last person I would have thought to do something like that. Dont think he ever saw prison though.

We have some ex-cons that work for us. One of them, a guy I play tarkov with on occasion, spent 7 years in prison for killing a cop while drunk driving. Another one was a 37 year old sleeping with a minor who got six months after statutory rape conviction. Six months. Like, what the fuck is up with our prison system that felonies only get six months?

I'm from a smallish town and the arrest records are public record/easily accessed. I look at them from time to time to see if anyone I know pops up.

What amazes me are the people who get arrested, no joke, if not weekly then at least monthly. And this goes on for YEARS. And sometimes it's on fairly serious charges, like manufacturing meth. I don't understand how some people get huge sentences for a single offense, and then other people get arrested a dozen times in a year, spend a weekend in jail, and are back on the streets on Monday every time.

My dad ran guns and robbed banks/armored cars in Boston in the 80s and 90s. He went away for a very long time shortly after I was born.

I went to school with a kid that ended up being a drug dealer and got murdered because of a bad deal (apparently).

Teacher at our primary school lived next door to my best friend and about 20 houses away from me. He was known as the teacher looking up skirts and then years later went to jail for child/pedo charges, he's out now as this was decades ago. The poor wife/family left living at the house had to move away shortly after that; not their fault but the stigma just couldn't be unstuck.

Guy I worked with, when I was a kid, fleeced credit card terminal refunds to himself for years. He got caught but had taken nearly $40K over years after they found the trail of what to look for.

Don't make a traceable pattern. Back in the day a friend of mine worked for a company making photography equipment, people would place orders over the phone reading out their card numbers. So she'd copy them down and then order things from home shopping catalogues. She got caught, but just fired as the company didn't want the bad press. The pattern of all the cards used being used at this one company to buy specialist photography equipment and she was the one taking the phone orders was an easy catch.

She did tell me that she specifically took British comedy legend and birdwatcher Bill Oddies credit card details "Because he was a short tempered asshole and full of himself" :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It's crazy to me how much or often people get away with and just keep going until they get caught. Can't quit I suppose. What a pisser of a story though.

So much old school fraud was by retail/operator staff with cards etc.

Remember when store receipts used to have the full card and expiry number printed on them!?
Fuck yes. Scary. Weird thing is the Australian direct debit system still gives a merchant the ability to take whatever funds from any Australian bank account that you have BSB and account number for. Stupid old ass tech system they still use in major banks.
