Hi-Fi RUSH Began Development In 2017 According To Director

So you don't think Microsoft saw this game back in 2020 during the pre-acqusition process? This game was probably in pre- development then and Microsoft had to approve continue development.
Well Bethesda openly said they will continue producing and controlling their properties as normal as in seperate from MS... so no I don't they did anything like that. When the game was most likely Greenlit in 2017...

The giveaway being that every showcase so far is still presented As a MS + Bethesda showcase

$7.5 billion should tell you Microsoft has final say so. Also its the XBox and Bethesda showcase. Both subsidiaries of Microsoft.

I mean I don't know what else to tell you. Bethesda themselves have told you how it works. We can play imaginationland rules if you want but as of right now they say they still operate as a seperate entity within Microsoft and they had greenlit the project in 2017.

There's is no proof or evidence of any kind that MS first party had anything to do with this projects inception or development.

What's more unbelievable is how much I found it boring. I felt like it was a fairly uninteresting rhythm game (sort of) wrapped in a boring 3D platformer. I finished the first level and uninstalled it. And take that from someone who loves every rhythm game there is. You focus so much on hitting the beats that you don't really take the time to actually enjoy much of anything else. Not to mention the 3D platforming is awful.

What's even more unbelievable is that doubtless I'm in the minority in this opinion.

You don't have to tell me anything. I know the definition of ownership. Microsoft announced their plan to acquire Bethesda/Zenimax in September of 2020. The trademark for the name HiFi Rush was issued in December of 2020. Microsoft complete the acquisition in March on 2021.

Regardless of when initial development may have started the fact is Zenimax, Bethesda, Tango Gameworks, and therefore HiFi Rush are Microsoft properties.

It’s a weird release as if you actually play through the game you realized this was meant to be a big release. It’s not a low budget game or maybe the developers are just that talented? To just release it out of the blue is crazy.

Just do what I'm electing to do and just ignore anyone who tries to push that idiotic narrative.

Even on a common sense level; if these weren't Microsoft products, why put forth such an effort to dicredit Microsoft instead of simply enjoying the game(s) on those "monster rigs" all the Sony diehards said they'd play Xbox exclusives on?

Let the haters hate.

That’s quite a while ago, seems strange to just drop it out of the blue.

The time they’ve spent on it definitely shows though, it’s really really well made from everything to the music, visuals, voice acting and mechanics. Level design is great as well with lots of rewards for exploration.

Or instead of being a console warrior.

We can wait to see what Phil's plans are since we have yet to see a game that has been greenlit by MS themselves since they gobbled up these studios.

Since I'm gonna have to speak to you in console warrior to understand..
You would say probably that Sony only makes 3rd person premium games... am I right? I bet you've said that before 🤣.

So what I am interested In. As someone who owns and plays MS game studio titles. Is what does Phil want his brand to be seen as. The rpg box. The gamepass box with smaller pentiment style games. But we have yet to see a game that was created and started under MS tutelage yet from their new studios.

I was excited to think hi-fi rush was one but it turns out that if definitely wasn't one.

Also you guys need to grow up and understand how corporate structuring works 🤣 if one of the conditions when purchased is that Bethesda can operate as seperate entity under the company then that's what it is 🤣 sure ms can make decisions. But it's not as simple as Phil walks in and flops his dick out and everyone listens 🤣

Exactly, it doesn't really matter. Microsoft owns Bethesda and made the deal to allow them control over their studios and IP.

Just, like if bungie makes an actual real banger of a game it will be down to bungie and not Sony.

In both instances MS and Sony would receive some level of praise, which is fine. They own them.

Ultimately, who cares.

You're asking for a game that Microsoft has green lit but then say Microsoft can't green light Bethesda games becuase they trust Bethesda to manage their own studios and process, so I am not 100 percent sure of what you are asking for?

Well the difference is that Matt booty would be sitting In the meeting room (or whoever is heading up their first party studios these days) with essentially MS input on whether it's a good idea for a game to be greenlit.

I just want to see what MS strategy is with all these publishers they are buying and all I'm saying is we have yet to see something where MS was in from the ground up. Instead we've just seen games where they've taken over as a publisher 🤷‍♂️.

I definitely wouldn't give anything bungie releases in the next 2-3 years towards sonys credit as well.

Seeings though games take around 7 years from point of inception to release I personally can't wait 10 years to start giving Microsoft props.

As long as good games come out now and in the future I'm happy.

Interesting that it took them so long. Looking at those first arena shooter screens, it must have been rebooted at some point. And i hope ms have 1-2 more shadow drops for 2023. Now give me Sunset Overdrive 4k Patch and i will be happy for a long time.

Holy shit GaF can be breathtaking sometimes...smh

Not that it matters but rarely does a pitch get the greenlight and start pre production in anything back to back. At the end of the day, Tango is owned by Microsoft. Microsoft had final say. It's done, my boy! Go play it! Stop this warrior crap. It's exhausting.

Post-acquisition, Bethesda became Microsoft First Party

We can wait to see what Phil's plans are since we have yet to see a game that has been greenlit by MS themselves since they gobbled up these studios.

How is this relevant?

So what I am interested In. As someone who owns and plays MS game studio titles. Is what does Phil want his brand to be seen as. The rpg box. The gamepass box with smaller pentiment style games. What does 'Microsoft Tutelage' even mean?
You've spent time arguing that some of these acquired studios are run as separate entities, yet are pivoting to talk about "games that were created and started post acquisition". If these studios have significant creative independence, what difference are you expecting to see in the future, aside bigger budgets and support from MS?

Post-acquisition, everything Bethesda now reports to Spencer and Microsoft...and they retain complete control over funding decisions and resource allocation. They could easily have terminated development on this game...especially if they wanted to focus on AAA output (e.g an Evil Within title)

The giveaway being that every showcase so far is still presented As a MS + Bethesda showcase

That's 'Xbox + Bethesda', not 'MS + Bethesda'. Bethesda isn't being run as a separate company from Microsoft. That would be ridiculous. They're being run as a separate line of business from Xbox Game Studios.

Yeah. It's common PlayStation fanboys narrative
If game from Bethesda is good it is good despite Microsoft and Microsoft has nothing to do with it
If game from Bethesda is bad, it is because of Microsoft

I can bet 50€ that if Starfield will end up as disappointment same idiots like "RED DRAGON" will be blaming Microsoft for it's failure despite fact that Starfield started full production after Fallout 76, so way before Microsoft acquisition.

At least be consistent.

It was same even with XGS. Psychonauts 2 was great despite Microsoft. While at same time Double Fine said how many things they could add to the game to make it better thanks to Microsoft's money.

Fanboys gotta fanboy I guess.

Decent amount of salt building on GAF this last week. I expect a lot more in the coming 12 months.

"Redfall began development in 2017"
"Starfield began development in 2017"

Expecting these threads soon too.

they became a first party studio so the conversation probably never came up.

It's been 2 years and some change since that's happened. You'd think it would be a given that unless it was announced previously, their future games will by default by console exclusive.

Don't worry. If id is making Quake reboot people around here will claim that it is not Microsoft's game because Doom Eternal was released in march of 2020 and they were developing next game for whole 6 months before buyout :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Well, that is if game will be great. If it will be bad, it is Microsoft's fault no matter when it began it's development.

So this was probably gonna be multiplatform until Phil removed it from PlayStation in his mission to give players more ways to play.
Nope they never had designated a console. It started as very barebones just the director and a programmer working out the rhythm based combat without any graphical assets. The director stated that by the time they were acquired, they weren't far enough to consider console releasing and that it obviously made that decision for him. He literally stated that there never was a playstation version

Tango said the game was only on PC when they were purchased.
Also when Bethesda was asked about Starfield being Xbox console exclusive they said it wasn't up to them, that tells you who calls the shots.

No surprises for me, and it shouldn't be for anyone. No "actual gen" game nowadays takes less than three years.

Even thou was more than five years for this, it puts on perspective that the game was released with basically no complains in the technical department. It's a fun well made videogame. Like always should be

I'm look at you, Forspoken. Bitch!

There was much a chance of this being on ps5 as returnal was on xbox imo.

Take that as you will.
Sony owns the Returnal IP and they funded it as far as I am aware. This was in development long before the acquisition, if that didn't happen this would have been multiplat though it doesn't really matter now.
Stella Blade literally had gameplay trailers saying it's coming to Xbox. Less people cry about that than a game being in development for 1 month prior to becoming a full first party studio.
Wait what? Is that not a timed exclusive?

I doubt it. Seems like Sony is publishing it now, like Rise of the Ronin.

Yes, but obviously it would have been on PS5. There would have been no reason for them not to do that.

And it's not like it was just a super early prototype when they were acquired if development started in 2017.

Evil MS denying gamers since 2020. cunts.

I understand why they're doing it, Sony would be doing the same (if they had the ability to purchase half the industry). The big thing that rubs me the wrong way is how MS/Phil keep talking about how their goal is not to take games away from PlayStation players, but then they keep doing exactly that.

They never said that. Just get over the stupid PR speak. They are of course trying to get exclusives, just like their rival does.

Phil gives a lot of lip service to greater availability. What he's talking about is cloud, streaming, TV app, browsers, PC, mobile, etc. And he's not entirely wrong about that. They were day one on PC before Sony was. That's all he's talking about. He's never once said he will not have console exclusives. As you said, it's obvious they will.

This point has been made many, many times. Just saying.

Please just get over this at this point. Phil said after the purchase that Bethesda was purchased to bolster first party exclusive output. That's what he said.
