Short TLDW with random thoughts:
  • It is caused not by an ineffective driver code, but by hardware architecture. Can't be "fixed", the gap is there to stay
  • Solution for desktops is obvious: grab a faster CPU
  • Notebooks though, ouch
  • I suspect AMD did that in hardware due to consoles, although... Fermi had it too, had it not?
  • This has a curious impact on GPU power consumption, in NV's case, some of TDP is seen as CPU's.

I didn't get this part. What do you mean by "some of TDP is seen as CPU's."?
When games are not bottlenecked by CPUs, with NV card CPU is doing more work (that is done by GPU in AMD case) and hence consuming more power.
