A financial report from Hitman studio IO Interactive suggests its James Bond game, Project 007, may not be released before March 2025

Incredible how long games take to make now .. Project Dragon got leaked last year so that means minimum 4 years dev time by the time it's out.

That's longer away than I hoped. I would have expected at least one of them to be further along development. Almost sounds like both could still be in a early design phase and not full steam ahead mode. How many teams do they even have? It's basically Hitman 3 DLCs which should carry the studio through the next couple of years, especially with delays maybe not even 2025. Sounds excessively long since Hitman3 launched a while ago and all three new Hitman were incremental updates, so less heavy lifting in the last years I suppose.

Would have expected the 007 game earlier so this kinda sucks. But they should take all the time they need.

How the hell is this ‘development’ hell or ‘pathetic’ for a new IP AAA game to take minimum 4 years to make?

These are truly ignorant takes for an enthusiast gaming forum.
Thats the problem, it shouldnt take this long. How are studios like insomniac able to make Get out new triple a games every year or two, and other studios struggle so much? There is a work flow issue

Insomniac isn’t able to make their games in a year or two. They’ve got parallel teams. They’re certainly not making Spiderman 2 in under 3 years. Ditto for Ratchet.

Sucker Punch made Ghost of Tsushima in 6 years. It’s taken Sony Santa Monica 4.5 years to make a sequel to God of War. 4+ years for Guerilla to make Horizon Forbidden West, a sequel too.

Are you going to accuse these studios of mismanagement too?

Game development isn’t just turning a knob.

Honorable mentions:
Elden Ring - 4 years of development
Final Fantasy XVI - in development since 2016. So 6 years from start to release.

Fack this gen.

Well at least it will probably look amazing. By that time a lot of engines will have their UE5 type tech ready.

As long as they're secured financially and won't have to make big cuts to their ongoing projects I don't mind waiting. Developing bigger games takes years, but it's just more noticeable when you announce them early.

Incredible that few developers actually take the time to make games properly like IOI does.

Games come out a year early in most cases riddle with bugs. Not to say Hitman trilogy was bug free, but it's an immense trilogy.
