Is it illegal to post QR codes around town?

I had an idea to post QR codes around town in random places for people to find. Is that illegal?

Unless the data in the code is illegal, why would it be illegal to post them?

Although there's probably varying local laws about posting up ads and such, which you could run afoul of.

I saw them sometimes but not in a good while.

There's more stickers with art and good vibe shit now. Artists even went around and redecorated things like electricity boxes.

People stopped and used to take pictures. It was impossible not to smile at them.

All gone now though, probably a council issue.

EDIT: asked a local band if I could do ones for them. They said no, could be fined.

They suck just like any other stickers. The cleaner looking space around us the better. Not to mention it's pointless... have you ever seen anyone scanning random QR codes with their phone? (assuming they're not on a historical plaque or something like that)
