It's been exactly a year since PS5 released and you still can't walk into a shop and purchase one

It's just crazy had this ever happened before with any generation prior. And when can we expect to be able to just walk in a shop and purchase a PS5, or even a Series X or graphics card. Are we talking 2022, 2023, 2024? I guess making Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West cross gen maoes sense after all. I personally think we will get another full year of cross gen with games like Call of Duty 2022 and etc all being cross gen. Next gen won't really properly start until sometime in 2023 which is just insanse. Yes we have had exclusives like Ratchet, Demons Souls and Returnal. But this ain't massive games like God of War.

Not to worry, Sony is aware of this and they are airlifting PS5’s as I’m typing this..,

Things will subside in about 6 months I imagine once we slowly get out of this very long pandemic. Supply chain issues for chips are not going away any time soon. This is the cost of our all digital futures and making everything in to an IoT device. Wanna control your toaster from your iPhone, we got that under control. I am glad I got a PS5 but there are no “killer apps” yet. You’re not missing out on much really but some very nice quality of life improvements, loading times and 60fps mean a lot to me.

I seem to remember others like the PS4 and Switch being inconvenient to pick up for the first year, and the Wii was impossible to find for a year or two, but demand from an increasingly global market + scalpers + chip shortages could make this hardware drought go on even longer.

I'm just glad I got my PS5, not for the exclusives but the QOL features. Improved remote play, instant loading for PS5 games. Patches for many key games like God of War and Horizon. It's not as if PS5 will even drop in price anytime soon so if any was plan on getting a PS5 down the line may as well get one now if they can get one.

Sucks about multiplatform games... but at this point if someone doesn't have a PS5 or a XSX they don't want them hard enough.... and I'm not talking about the scalpers way... I could have already purchased 4 more PS5s if I wanted at retail price via preorder or having them in the basket (everytime I secured one asked a close friend if they wanted it, and cancel the preorder if they didn't want it at the moment)

Till late 2024 at best I don't think we will walk at a retailer and see them.

Actually it`s gotten worse. I used to flip a PS5 here and there and now the situation has gotten so bad that even my bot can`t grab a console anymore. That being said, my own PS5 has been collecting dust since june and I don`t think there is much to miss until HZD and GoW release.

I agree. If you set up stock alerts you can get one. I have got 3, one for myself and 2 that I sold for cost price to friends that needed one. I am lucky that I work from home at a computer all day and have the benefit of doing that. It sucks for people that can’t get one though and I really do empathise with their situation. It will hopefully become easier soon.

I sold my PS5 because it was collecting dust. And I'm not sure I'll get a new one anytime soon because the only 2022 games I'm excited for (HZD and GoW) will be cross gen.

I don't get this do you think PS5 will cost less when you pick one up when Spiderman and full PS5 exclusives launch. If it's the same price then why not just enjoy GoW and HZD with graphic improvements and instant loading. U less you are not planning to buy a PS5 ever then I understand. Or you just wanted to flip for a profit while people pay way more for. PS5. I've flipped 2 PS5s for a profit but now the profit doesn't seem like much to flip on when I first started flipping PS5s.

By the time more big full PS5 exclusives are out in 2023 you'll be able to pick up a used system on eBay for less than they go for currently. Right now people are selling USED systems for over RRP.

It makes sense if you don't care about 60fps, I'm not getting rid of mine because I do.

My Vita remote play certainly was not improved :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I doubt it, if the chip shortages continue you will probably get a PS5 at the RRP price at most. I think this generation will take a while for prices to drop. Also in places like UK inflation is rising so I don't see a official price drop for many years, and even then you would probably save £50 at most.

so its fine still because there are no true exclusive games for it , only couple that not that ground braking. so we will wait. though all new games now for ps5 will be for ps4 as well, so i guess we need to wait longer.

Yeah, it's gonna depend where you are. It's honestly not even that hard to get a PS5 in the UK if you actually try, people just want to be able to leisurely pick up scarce items when they feel like it and they can't. Everyone I know who's set stock alerts here has them now, it's just the mothers who don't know about that stuff that are struggling.

I have a few casual gamer friends who want one but are not crazy about getting one. That's a massive audience. You would be surprised how many buyers who are not willing to set up stock alerts to buy something.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, that's gonna be most of the overall market, I'm just saying that if you really want one they're not that difficult to get. Unless you work a 7 day a week job where you can't reach your phone and have no friends willing to help, I guess, which is a realistic situation for a lot of people.

Its a real shitty situation. These new machines are way much better than previous ones. I just got to play on a One couple of days ago and those damn loading times. Impossible to go back.

There's only Demon's Souls and that one with the aliens. PS5 doesn't really have any huge bangers right now.
I wonder why

Just guessing: maybe they are cautious of releasing AAA games with huge budgets to a console that's not able yet to meet the public's demand?

People complaining about the lack of PS5 exclusives are missing the forrest for the trees.

Sony is not being able to sell as much PS5 as they (and customers) want , so they would release something like God of War exclusively for it? Why? That would be a dumb financial decision

So I expect Sony to keep making cross gen games for a loong while.

In 2023 with Spiderman 2, maybe it will be the "now we are next gen" moment

One year later and my bro still can't find an XSX. He was even willing to get it with Xbox All Access but even there the console is currently not available.

Yep it's such great value for money system as well. This isn't like the PS4 where there is no backwards compatibility. When you pick a PS5 up you also have access to 100s of PS4 games many which are patched and you can grab for dirt cheap at used game stores and digital game sales. The you have PS Plus Collection. I've never gamed so much for a launch system like this before.

PS5 is the fastest selling PS ever. So this isn't a good argument at all. It's never been like this in the past.

I wonder what the problem actually is. Aren’t enough chips being produced because factories are closed due to covid? Or is it the shipping/delivering that’s the issue (which seems to be a general issue right now, especially in the US)? Or are factories still working off the backlogs they accumulated during the height of the covid crisis?

Since these supply issues are expected to continue for a few more years, I find it hard to believe that it’s directly related to covid anymore at this point.

This is true, record sales does not mean Sony and MS are not producing enough or creating a false shortage, the demand is outpacing the supply because they are popular.

Can’t believe people are still asking why this constraint exists… when we’ve been in the middle of a global pandemic for nearly two years.

Come On Reaction GIF

Electronic goods require parts and labour from countries all over the world. All the time those countries are still badly affected by Covid, nothing is going to get better.

That’s right. I sold mine for 1500 dollarydoos!
I bought it for Cyberpunk, and what a debacle!

The thirst is wild to me because they’re really aren’t any native games for it. Fight me.

I got my ps5 at launch but still can't find a XSX. Only want it for gamepass, would have saved me tons from the bad games I bought on ps5 that are free on gamepass.

My store got 29 units for the entire country (200m people)

We are selling it well above the MSRP

Also, the xss, we have lots of em in stock, they're selling well, xsx is nowhere to be found here, glad I got mine via pre-order

If you're not playing it and it's collecting dust why not unload it for a profit? I sold a new digital ps5 not too long ago for $1200. Still money to be made!

It's crazy. If it weren't for Demons Souls remake i wouldn't have preordered one for sure.I thought i would just go to a store a few months later or whenever i wanted to and buy one then.

My post stated unless you want to flip and make a profit, so I guess that makes sense. I flipped 2 PS5s, I decided against it on my 3rd PS5 as the prices you can sell for are not much higher anymore here in the UK.

But I think that the situation with chip shortage will get worse. And they know it.

I saw somewhere that some car manufacturers are disassembling models that arent selling well to use their chips in models that are selling

So maybe they are kinda meeting a good chunk of the demand for now, but I believe that it will get worse, so they are cautious
